Hello and welcome to our channel. Regenerative farming Ireland on trail is what I am about. I am putting to use all of the regenerative /adaptive farming practices in an effort to produce using traditional cattle breeds, an animal fit to thrive in harsh wet conditions free from all the previously and still promoted chemical inputs on land or beast. We run a 12 month grazing system where all animals are outwintered in their natural environment mimicking there instinctive urge to migrate and keep on the move.
We are putting to the test weather regenerative farming can prove to not only meet but be a carbon negative operation, rebuild our depleted soils bring back biodiversity fix the water cycle and ecosystems. All while producing a heathly chemical and drug free nutritionally dence super food we call beef.
I am a firm believer that is not the cow but the how. Make agriculture great again and save the small Irish traditional family farms.

Very well behaved stock. Where are the ponies ? How is white clares leg now. Thank you for another great update
Hi Sean , do you notice any lessening of the rushes on ur land since you’ve started? And if not would you expect to see some improvement in future?
Well lad the truth yes and no. I was seeing improvements but then we had 2023. I've also stopped topping this year and introduced the ponies instead. I tend to use the winter months to get on top of them and watch how things go the following year. That land in the video is particularly bad but I've only had it 2 years as it was abandoned. Deemed useless.
Fair play Wher are u based ? I’m near ballyconnell myself .
There is a slogan for a T-Shirt “ I talk myself into I things and then I talk myself out of them”!
Haha maybe so😄
Enjoyed the video and thanks for explaining what you are doing.
Thank you too my friend 🙌
Good stuff
Will you scan the cows
No lad I don't bother . The bull there more or less tells me all is covered. And if we notice anything a miss after the Christmas I'll think about moving them on then.
The ivy must be good fot them Sean, great clear footage of the move up the lane.hows the cow with the bad foot Variety is the spice of life.
Are you going to use Jasper on the cows again next year??
Well Andrew I don't think so . I'm on the look out for a very specific type of bull .I don't believe jasper is that animal.
The colour of the grass amid strong rushes is incredible. The cattle love the extra diversity in the boreen long acre, hint hint.
Yes them fields are particularly bad with rushes I'm excited for the winter as it's my chance to clean up using the cattle and ponies. I never topped this year much so I'll know soon enough weather I was wrong not to or not🤔
Bless Wednesday morning from Montreal QC Canada and welcome back my friend ! .. and absolutely another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage compilation documentary countryside adventure and lovely piece of work and gorgeous settings presentation camera work ! .. TQSM ! ..
Stick with your instinct man if you have a notion to sell.
Now you have it🙌
So sad. Her leg looks very damaged.
Hanging on by the skin only Marie. Hard to know what happened her
Sad situation to deal with.
I can only leave her to nature I guess. She's in a comfortable position and place what more can we do I suppose
I notice that you haven't mentioned the Ponies recently Sean. Are they following the cattle anymore.
Well Sean yes they will be. I'm on a bit of land that's away from the 2 main bits so wasn't worth my while bringing up the road. They will be back after them Tuesday give or take🙌
I’ve said it to you before Sean, I love the way you move your beasts. It’s so gentle and easy going, no wonder they’re so happy and contented 🇮🇪🇸🇬
They left you behind Sean! 🐂🐂🐄 Great work on moving the cows up the lane, always time for a wee bit of ivy along the way!
First good frost here this morning, growing season is done. Hopefully you get some more time!
Very mild this morning john . We tend to complain about the rain but it really great for land recovery when resting 🙌
Any RSPB near you? Poor wee heron!
I think she to far gone . I've her left in a warn place comfortable. I know the fox will find her but she needs to feed her family too.
Poor thing, can you feed her ? Surprised the fox didn't get her
To far gone Rachel. Left her to nature in a warn dry rushy bank
An Angus may add some thick beef type quality to your herd. Personally as much as I love the Hereford breed my thought is a Hereford bull wouldn't work for you. I would recommend either Angus or a nice calving ease Charolais. That's my thoughts on it. 🙂
Well Joel yes I agree. It's not so much breed but type within that breed. I have a very exact type in my head I've not seen it yet much . But I'm keeping an eye out .
Have a sit down and decide what’s the most important features. Nature, ease to work with, health, quality of calf etc. Bear in mind the quality/type of sire when judging the calves. Then group them. If they don’t tick the most important criteria, get rid of those first and then look at the finer criteria. It might help as you are attached to most and need to step back from that. You might not get every decision right but you’ll have made a fair decision that was right at that time. Good luck, the rest of us are just along for the ride!
Thank you johnty. I definitely have attachment issues. The animal has to piss me off for me to really push me to get rid. I'm going to have to do exactly that. Jasper the bull is going for sure though. He's just not nice enough on the eye for me
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 your attachment to your animals is great to see and how you look after them. I’ve had to stop watching a couple that have great content but are too rough for my liking. It might also help to separate yourself from comments on here. We all have our own opinions that are all different and there is only one opinion that matters. You are doing a great job 👍
@JohntyNich thank you my friend appreciate that
That black calf is the best of the galloways. You should keep the cows that give you the best calves so i would keep that friesian type cow.
Thank you james I agree .he is definitely the nicest bull we've had . I'm going with the red clares calf as the nicer calf/hiefer. But he is right up there . I'd buy a bull like him for the cows tbh
I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you my friend. I tried the # tags today 🙌
Great to see them all looking so healthy. Thr Friesland has a fine calf, pity to get rid of her. Another interesting update. Thank you. You are sounding better
It's my biggest weakness is getting to fond of them. But he is a classy boy. I've also noticed I'm not so concerned about numbers going into the winter. The high maintenance cows are gone . I've big sheep now. A lot easier feed
You know what Sean? You’re the kind of lad that could find a reason to keep any of your animals and that’s a credit to you! 😂 🇮🇪🇸🇬
Haha thank you Peter. I'm desperate tbh😄
FairPlay Sean another season out wintering . Rubys calves are impressive looking, properly hairy as well , they’re great
Well k thank you . I'm also a lot more relaxed this year . I've also bigger numbers too but since we've culled the high maintenance cows and reduced cow size I'm definitely noticing the difference
Wouldn't sell the cow that's producing the goods for you,You'd probably get better calves off the right angus bull.i wouldn't complicate the breeding too much, you also have the option of AI.
Well colman I hear you. I also think red clares hiefer is our best adapted type yet . And that black bull calf out of the friesian is the best bull calf to date and both are Ruby calves yet this years bull I find hard to look at.
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 def best bull calf to date, but its a balancing act,ld say you def need Galloway blood in your cows,it's getting the cross right for your system, that's the tricky bit.
Absolutely beautiful sharing adventure upload and share ! .. gorgeous filming edition captured camera work looks super awesome super amazing ! .. TQSM ! ..
I've always been a fan of that cow maybe the mix of genetics is what's pushing them ahead, best of everything
Really kieran that's very interesting. Here's the deal too . I'm not on any hurry to sell also. The smaller frames are far easier to mind . I've definitely noticed a difference.
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 well it could or could be a coincidence. Say that calf there, he has the shorthorn and freisian genetics to be taller and galloway genetics to put on flesh and she probably has more milk for him than most heifers too. I like her for that, she's exactly what you're trying to get away from a bit skinny, tall and dairy kind but she's well able for the system too it seems 😂
Keep any cow that’s giving you a good calf Sean it’s what it’s all about. It would make no sense business wise to sell her and keep the likes of Maverick to a 3 year old calving down or motherless May who you’ll have to run in for at least 36 months to have an bit of an animal. Sell on anything with a poor calf sell the bull lighten the numbers and have the forage for the cows producing for you. I really believe putting a terminal angus or even a Hereford into that group next year will turn your enterprise inside out quality wise.
Only thing is the likes of maverick are quiter/calmer animals. If she calves every year a good calf the wait was worth it. As far as I know she never knocked or jumped the fence. I would say that's more important than age when she first calves because you can bet the animals who break out will have offspring to do the exact same and you can see it with belle there. With things going wrong you'd nearly want the black shorthorn over belle no matter how good she looks but that's a tough decision to make too
I agree with the terminal bull next for sure . Jasper I'm hoping breeds better than he looks . I'm getting it hard to find anything in him I like. . However I'm very happy with his father's calves so 🤞. Another big story this winter is my lack of concern about numbers going into winter . I'm very happy the high maintenance cows are not around. The smaller frame is a game changer
I love the way you talk us through your cattle!
Thank you. I'm delighted you enjoy them🙌
He’s a real lovely Belted Galloway
Just visited Ireland. Had no idea how cold it was
Super stuff lad hope you have /had a great time time. The average temperature here is around 11 degrees Celsius. That's a cold day in summer and a very mild day in winter.
Well Seán, I like the channel its very good. Reality for Irish Farmers. What part of the country are you in? Im a cattle farmer myself and ive took a serious interest in Regenarative Farming this year. Good to learn how your working. Keep the good work up 👏
Super stuff lad great hear that . I found once started to read up on it and began to put it into practice I just found it more and more fascinating and enjoyable . The real beauty is starting to see it work.
Good stuff
Welcome back my friend ! .. and as always beautiful sharing adventure documentary countryside content video and a very interesting video to watch ! .. thanks again and have a wonderful blessed weekend from Montreal QC Canada ! ..
Hello Seán, please wear a mask at all dusty feeds like hay. It is very uncomfortable to be suffering like that. You are great to look after your stock but not so great to look after yourself. An antihistamine might help you now. All the animals are looking well. Maverick looking stylish. Feeding is a sign winter is on us. Thanks for a lovely update. Take care
Thank you Marie . I must start doing that . I'm very bad this year. Im getting fits of it . Cattle seemed to be glad of the bit of fodder .
If you use # hash tags in front of your Thumbnails and descriptions then when people do a search then they will find your site.
I'm on it🙌
Hope you feel better soon.
Farmers. No calling off when you have a planet to feed Blessings to you. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you very much gg 🙌
Hope you feel better soon 🫖
Haha thank you Stephanie I'm just in and I've the kettle on🙏
With the thyme...theres one one thats very strong...too strong.. the other type is milder and better...anyhow...hope it improves..
Best to research it yourself...I don't know what you'd be allergic to or not ..and I'm not a doctor..
Feeling better now my friend thank you. I've switched to silage definitely a help. But I don't usually react to hay like I did . I must look into it🤔
Those Galloway Belties are lovely!
Thank you. Hope the weather is good for you over there
I wouldn't normally advise someone to wear a mask ..i hear you shortness of breath..ive started wearing a mask when im shaking hay out...a bit of steam would help ease the breathing.. eucalyptus or thyme oil can also help..i brought the horses iff the hills early this year.. luckily its dry enough ...
She's a beautiful filly foal, a Sheáinín.
Thank you mo chara. Her sire is Prince Richard. He's definitely putting height into his foals. Her sister moonshine is the strongest filly I've ever bred I'd say. 🙌
Sean its good going you need a new battery
When the ponies graze the grass down so well , it would be very tempting to mulch the hell out of the rushes 🤦🏻♂️ .
My very thoughts this morning tbh. However it's what I've done forever and they still come back. So I'm going to really try and be patient and see how we get on over this winter and 2025 should have a story to tell🤔
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 i know your 100% correct , Sean . I think a quick fix is always more tempting than actually knowing a bit of science and having patience. The rushes will eventually lose out
Good stuff
Another beautiful video Seán. All looking good except for the red shorthorn as you said a bit on the thin side. She may be carrying twins???. A bit of tlc will help her along. The galloway calves are very cosy looking. I think they are the way for you to go. Ponies won't be water babies😂. Thanks for lovely update
Hi Marie I'm going to make a new little micro herd . She'll be a member. I'll keep a close eye on her over the winter 🙌
Every day you are grazing versus feeding is a win when you have more grass ahead of you.
Thank you Lee. The weather has been a great help. After 2023 I feel alot more confident 🙌
Plenty of grass there sean ,no panic with hand feeding it could b a long winter yet, from now on we can get any sort of weather, the ponies following the cattle seems to b working well with a pick left behind. 👍
