Sheep Farmer Uses Amazing Handling System For The First Time | Could It Be The Best Ever Made?

  • This video is shows how a really good sheep handling system can cut the work load for a sheep farmer. I think this is one of the few machines that can immobilise both big and small sheep particularly young lambs for those first few tasks.
    This handling system is called "The Cotter Crate" and is designed and built by two brothers Jack and Nick Cotter from Co Limerick in Ireland.
    It is an incredibly well designed machine and would recommend it to anybody with sheep and I wish them both all the best in the future.

    Feel free to drop me a comment and also if you have any questions or suggestions....
    Thanks for watching,
    David.

    I’d always value the opinion of someone that’s a background in engineering and fabrication….like you say you can understand and appreciate what’s gone into it!!
    Be good to see some more reviews, trials and demos, hopefully you’ll get more big players approach you now 😉 thanks for showing us it.

    Hi David, thanks for the review this looks a great machine for lambs. I have a Ritchie combi-clamp which possibly could be better for ewes where they enter on the right hand side and exit on the left as I am right handed this is better for dagging I feel.
    Also trimming feet where I have good access and can lift up each foot for a trim and inspection.
    It does not work for lambs of this size at all where the Cotter is really good.
    Whats great about both of these machines is the saving on the back and it's like working in a sheep factory where all the gear is handy and the sheep come past one after another, also a radio with some music is nice 😊

      What is it like for young lambs?

    • @neil3352
      @neil3352 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just realising I hadn’t replied!
      It is very good for young lambs too. Can Heptavac them very easily up the ramp as a big batch of lambs together or individually in the actual main part of the Shepherdsmate. Forcing pen is a good job and leads them all on through. Digital weighing and daily live weight gain indicator is outstanding bit of a game changer I think. Sheep and lambs were a bit wary first time I used it but they walk through themselves now and very calmly too. Straight to the footbath or can draft them off to the left or right if needed which was handy when pulling ewes off to get them clipped which was a 1 hour job last year but this year now I have the Shepherdsmate it only took 10 mins. George at Shepherdsmate has been very good to deal with too which is good. Great product.

    • @sheepschool365

      When the floor drops the lamb drops a little bit into the sloped sides. If you try to lift the floor back up without releasing lamb essentially you have to lift the lamb back up which wouldn't be possible with a simple press of your heel.
