    Whenever I go to a restaurant that has their own original "ketchup" recipe, it always just tastes like a pureed version of tomato sauce 😅Perhaps I'm just so used to Heinz-style ketchup but I figure that's what a ketchup is supposed to taste like.

    • @oscarinacan
      @oscarinacan ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yes, they are closer to tomatoes. Interesting tidbit: Heinz can't call ketchup in Italy because it contains too much sugar.

    • @MarkLada
      @MarkLada ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun little interesting snippet of a tidbit.. Ketchup or Catsup was once thought to be a miracle drug that cured everything from impotence to kidney failure.. Early recipes often included ingredients such as opium, cocaine, and corn liquor.. The term Catsup originated as a slang term in medieval England that referred to the sauce the peasants used to mask the foul taste of the spoiled meat and rotten grains they ate.. The first catsups were made from rotten and fermented fruits and mushrooms.. They later evolved to become tomato based after humans figured out that tomatoes were not poisonous and in fact very very delicious and good for your health.. By the late 1800s ketchup had become the most popular condiment in the world.. Several countries enacted laws that required all citizens to consume a daily ration of ketchup..

    My father used to buy canned potato sticks all the time. They weren't my favorite but if we had no other snacks in the house I used to dip them into ketchup or nacho cheese. I'd imagine the experience was a rather low brow version of this snack albeit more oily and salty.
