Together with his wife Trish, old-school surfer Kevin has constructed two incredible tiny house Airbnb's on a spectacular section overlooking a surf beach on the wild west coast of New Zealand.
These tiny homes are a brilliant example of nature-inspired architecture as their shape and materials draw from the environment around them. Both homes exhibit clever utilisation of space while placing focus on spectacular scenic views.
Running these dream tiny homes as Airbnb's has helped Kevin and Trish to begin a transition into retirement, and eventually will help them to settle in their favourite part of the world, which thanks to these homes and Airbnb, they also now get to share with you!

yes, its a nice change from the usual sleeping loft, plus it gives your lounge area an awesome view!

...and the fact that it's on wheels so you can pull it out and stand full height to make it up!

I am always SO IMPRESSED with the camera work on this show. So many network shows that do renovations and make-overs, etc. are SO POORLY FILMED. THIS, here, is amazing. I believe it's Rasa behind the lens? Right? "Brava, Rasa!" Seriously, I always enjoy watching because you are so detailed and careful to show us everything. I often wonder how you do it, get the shots, in such tiny spaces.

I actually like the idea of bed space under and lounge space above where I normally don't like loft bedrooms in tiny house design.
Yeah! I thought that was a clever idea. The rollers were such a good idea. I always think it would be so hard to make the bed in most tiny houses

I seen a storage container home with similar design as the rollers but the just pulled out like storage boxes from the frame/flooring that the bed sat on. Was thinking of combining both design ideas in my future build.
Me neither. Being in our sixties I always visualise falling off the loft🤣

The man built two of the best looking tiny houses on the show in years, the colors, materials and finishes top notch. He is also, very unassuming and yet had designed two stylish homes.

@@arabella959 If you follow the channel (I do!) you will find on repeated occasions, if not every time, that people declare that a particular one is the best build, the one they loved. So my conclusion is that they are all winners.
Picking out a winner is to me a dangerous thing, for it makes one (or two) person(s) a winner and all the others losers. What for one person is the best solution may be nothing special for another and beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. For me they are all winners, everybody who makes his dream come true in the way he/she chooses.

I love the second tiny home as a disabled person it was easily adaptable and his choice of finishes is beautiful.

I really liked that too. It made a lot of sense not to have to climb up to bed especially when you have to pee a time or two in the middle of the night. After I saw them roll the bed out, I liked it even more.
I could do with a bed that rolls straight out to the toilet. 😁

I liked the idea too although I probably still prefer sleeping lofts with skylights where you can also stand next to the bed for they seem more functional and enjoyable.
The landscape designer should not be ignored! They did an amazing job complimenting the beautiful houses and the natural landscape. Grasses and the art pieces look great in the gardens.
So many fantastic ideas.... especially the mindfulness on the pull-out bed! And that moveable entertainment area!

What an amazing couple, property, and location! I just want to point out there are always so many negative comments about every video being family built homes on borrowed land... but this couple waited 40 years for just the right property, bought it, and built it themselves. I truly believe this life is possible for those who are willing to put in the effort... and so many of us are putting in massive effort into lifestyles we DON'T want!

Amazing tiny house! The gentleman is an incredible designer, I LOVE that he puts the bed on the main living area, and use the loft as a sitting place. Very unique. You can definitely tell that he put his heart and soul into building the 2 tiny houses. Lovely couple, wow! This is a very impressive tiny house, easily the top 3 tiny houses on this channel. I'm marking down Westport, NZ on my bucket list!
Brilliant, brilliant design, and I love how this man expressed beauty in choosing colours and materials. It's warm and calm and yet it's dynamic and lively. How...??? but yeah!!! I appreciate that you gave Kevin & Trish both credit as designers. While Kevin was no doubt the builder, I'm sure that Trish had a big influence on the interior designs. They are a lovely couple and have done a splendid job with this "dream come true". Also, one of my favorite tiny house videos Bryce.

What I find totally interesting is of the almost 300 videos you and Rasa have put out, a common comment is "this is the best so far" which lends credibility to how amazing the Tiny House movement is. There are so many possibilities to the designs, materials, locations and personal touches that each house and it's builders are unique, the videos (under normal conditions) will go on forever. Brilliant design. Transportable to other scenic parts of the world. Nice to see homes that have sleeping quarters suitable for people over 40. Bravo to this couple. What a wonderful way to grow old together!
Oh! My! Gosh!! This has to be the most gorgeous piece of property I have ever seen!! And the homes are just spectacular. I love them both but the second home, with it's Surfer style decor, really spoke to me (bodyboarder since 1980). New Zealand has to be the most beautiful country ever with some of the coolest people.
Love how they're not the usual layout of a tiny house with the bed on the ground floor.

This man, this couple have done such a GREAT job -- the concept of sharing this wonderful setting, integrating the designs with the surrounding, then designing + building them!
I LOVE these homes, Kevin's design ideas (from using the commercial doors to open up these spaces to the natural environment, to the movable TV Shelf-Rm-Divider, to the Gray Bath tile that mirrors the volcanic sands of the area, to the more protected back patio area that offers the same commercial doors that can open up to cross-breezes on more gentle days!!!
I love these people, their spirits + their beautiful retreat there in NZ!
I hope I get to come visit one day in a year or 2!
