You are spot on! Academy & Bucees at 523/332 headed towards Surfside carries all colors & Amazon. I bought em all!! I walked out on the Quintana Jetties the other day, late June 2022 in NNW winds, at my back. Water was clear but I noticed know one was catching anything but I was seeing blow up's. I had my rod, stringer & a Fat Boy Texas Chicken! I limited out in 10min. Then I started throwing back those 17" to 18" Trout. I had guys offering me $50 for that Fat Boy! It was the only 1 I had. Luckily I have them all now. I lost that TX Chicken when I casted out & just as it came back to the rocks in that clear water, I seen a 26" plus size Spec came up, swallowed that Fatty, turned & snap! 30lb flouro leader cut above the knot. My mistake for not checking my line after catching so many Trout on every cast. Then I started throwing at a 45° to the wind & started catching larger Spec's! Just as you stated, I watched this video after the fact but it was something I noticed
Thanks for this video. I have never had confidence with Corkys, but this video, and your other one, have me excited to throw them more. I know from the podcast you throw them year round, but I am going to make it a point to throw them more this winter.
Pretty sure Tackle Town in Rockport is where I got mine a year or so ago! So on to think I need to book a trip to get some “ your doing this wrong, that wrong & why are you doing that like that?” So pretty much want to book a trip this winter the season I struggle with the most. Great job again by the way!
Just found capt. caleb and great information!!! I see you got the arm bandage up for the new tattoo, anyway thanks for tips may be awhile though this freeze messed up the bays pretty good
Cold (Texas) weather is a com'n bro. The corky is not my confidence lure. Would love to see a fishing video with you and your buddies using them. You always show great on water footage of what your seeing. Thanks for the content!
Loved the Video Caleb! Corky season is upon us HAHA ;) ........How long do you fish an area out before you decide to move? Do you go on a long wade across the areas that you think they may be? Or are they there and just not hungry maybe and you move?
Great Video and excellent tips on Corky Fatboys. The hemostat are call Bulldogs when we use them in the OR. You can still find them on Ebay. Another tip on using the Bulldogs...you should use the thumb and the ring finger to get the best action from them..
awesome video on fishing corkys i really learned some tricks to try thanks for the information really fired up about going fishing with them and academy has the hemostats but they are called h20 express forceps and they work pretty well
I just subscribed and enjoying your videos and lessons learning a lot. One question, are you using the fat boys or original model. Wanting to buy some.... look forward to your videos
Really enjoyed this one! I’m totally guilty of pretty much only bombing them down wind. Hopefully, I can catch something other than a gaftop on one of these things. Great job, dude.
Tooltron has the longer ones. The 8” stainless fishing pliers are my go to pliers almost indestructible even when submerged in salt water for extended periods of time.
Excellent video, Caleb, this one watched next to your Corky Fat Boy retrieve video have been extremely appreciated and useful tutorials. Thank you. Do you ever fish Fat Boys (either floating or sinking) or regular Corkies from a boat while drifting and if so, counsel on how to best do that? I imagine it is tougher on a fast drift even with drift socks, but on gentle ripple or chop, sure is something I would like to succeed at. I know drifting is a different ball of wax from wading and covering water thoroughly. I really appreciate the counsel here for fan casting, far more effective when wading, and am trying to use that on my wades much more often. The propensity is to cast straight down wind but as you said, you're mostly working a lane or alley rather than the whole yard. I've even really begun casting into the wind, low and fast; the casts aren't nearly as long and backlashing is easier, but I really like working topwaters or twitchbaits at oblique angles to the wind and on a stealthy slow wade, I can actually work full circle or nearly so.
John Karges it can be tougher out of the boat when it’s moving, but certainly doable. Rod action is the same. I feel like I just need to let it sink a little more to compensate for the deeper water if that the case.
Just depends on how fast you work it and how it’s bent. Wind plays a factor also if it’s blowing your line. I would guess it raises 4-6” on average but there are a lot of factors.
Wish corkies were more popular down in FL. Can't find any shops in the tampa bay area that really carry them. They just never really took off down here like they did in texas.
Dave Howell they are good lures and I have caught some really nice fish on em. Legends 2017 first stop the water was in the 40s and they caught every fish on our stringer. Think we ended up 6th at that stop. I just don’t use them a whole lot. Fat boy is my confidence lure and when I’m on a grind, it’s just what I go to. If it gets real cold, then I may resort to dragging the bb.
Fished a corky today for the first time. Great bait. One question. I notice after awhile when retrieving the lure it spins through the water. What do you do stop this. I put the nose and tail down like you suggested. But again when the lure was close to the boat and I was just fast retrieving I can see it just spin and spin. Please help.
Confused fished Jan 27 2022 with Rowsey, saw me tweaking a corky and he waded over to me told me knot to tweak my corky , made to fish out the package and tweak n it would not preform natural . But I did catch first 3 fish of the day my way 🤷♂️
He was likely wanting it to stay higher in the water column. Not tweaking or tweaking it different ways can help keep it above the grass. Good video topic!
Can you let the class know what your preferred rod length and action is? I bet people will be curious. Also, is that an ultrasonic cleaner above your left shoulder?? Weird question, I know, but I’m probably going to purchase one that looks like that for my reels and and boat motor carburetor. Thanks!
Two firsts last Saturday, fishing a JH Outlaw and Corky. Both exceeded expectations, didn’t realize what I’d been missing out on! You’re spot on with the off center casts and the hits coming on the drop/pause. Got my first set of mosquitos when an old girlfriend had to get stitches while skiing. Honey, it’s time to take another trip to the mountain! May just ask my vet for a couple instead.
Vet said he carries these on his wading belt, search Medical Needle Driver/Holder. Said German made are better than the Pakistani, Mayo brand are the best and gold handles indicate Tungsten Carbide inserts in tips. Some with a longer pincher end have scissor section (behind the pinchers) for line. Hope this helps someone 🤙🏽
I was going to ask about replacing any subsurface (twitchbait) lure's trebles with singles, and the pros and cons for doing so. It is particularly relevant in the Laguna with all the grass, suspended or floating. I have tried it on occasion on Mirrodines and a couple of others but not sold and mostly interested in it affecting either action or hook-up rates. I see no difference with single hooks on topwaters.
@@johnkarges2080 i find no diff on hook ups but find better quality of fish and even the ones that i throw back easier to release and less damage to fish
@@texassaltwaterlife4374 certainly that, less damage to fish, fewer hooks in the fish, my flesh, or net webbing when I use them, plus ease (and safety) of unhooking.

They are not hemostats. They are needle holders. I am a veterinary surgeon. We all have dogs, ask your doc to get you a pair. I use the ones with the small scissors at the joint, they cut braid well. Gold handles are best, probably about $75.00. Cheaper than a Boga and they are stainless. I agree it is the most critical tool to release healthy fish!!
Dentist here...just watched the video and was going to post the same thing. Needle holders are cross-hatched, unlike hemostats, and are much better for grabbing a hook (which is pretty similar to a suture needle) and twisting it out.

Stopped by AA the other day and picked up a MGL 71 and some corkies. Love that store 💪
I have a ton of corkys that I never throw. Hoping to get out there these next couple months and build some confidence with em. Great video!

You can get hemostats from veterinary supply places.
Going to POC soon, I’m going to implement all the stuff you have taught in your videos. Thanks for the information.

I have a question. Can u do a video where u and your peeps are fishing corks. I need some live action with the corkys.
Sure!
Thanks for all your great information..
Great info. I believe lure colors are used more to catch the fisherman than the fish. I have caught trout over the years on so many different colors.
i have a few, dont throw them much but will deff try using your techniques! thank buddy!
Going out tomorrow. I will start off with it. We will see. Love the channel.

Fat boy pro vs regular fat boy, would you bend the pro series the same as the regular version? What are main differences?
They are essentially the same. The pro has a foil insert in them to give them a shine.
is using a tonys clip ok? tied straight to 15 pd berkley trilene for fatboys, dines and so on?
I don’t like em, personally. I tie straight on, but if you like em, do you bud!

A needle holder or a needle driver will have a short and strong nose versus the mosquito forceps
