I travel 2+ months over the Spring with a $16 Amazon 30L backpack. Had 3 seasons and went to 22 countries in Europe and Africa as an “older” solo female. Had a blast and nothing slowed me down!
Personal item only is honestly such a comfortable way to travel within Europe! It's so easy to carry, no waiting around, you can always keep it on you in buses or trains, and there's a zero chance you will be forced to check it.
Even after so many years your are still super relatable and that’s definitely one of the reasons why I think you’re the best travel content creator Thank you from a french girl living in Colombia and trying to explore more of Latin America on a budget this year ❤

personal item/carry on is truly the best way to travel. after doing literally my first trip- to London, with a suitcase and not knowing how to properly pack, I'd immediately changed my course and only backpack now. I can't imagine any other way. pacsafe is also a favourite brand of mine, but this has similar features I like. for one, it's simple and you have your things with you, but also it forces you to pack less because you can't and won't want to carry more. I'm definitely intrigued by this bag and will look further into it!
Got this same backpack for Christmas this year and it is amazing! Worth every penny. Packed very comfortably for 2 weeks on Canaries and still had space for shopping! Bonus: looks so cool even when very full!

Cotopaxi 28L is my favorite travel bag. I use it for 1 week vacation. The best bag I have ever used because it is easy to carry around, the compartments help for organization and the material resist a lot. No problem using it as a personal item.
Ryanair took my passport off me flying to Budapest until my backpack fit in the box - and they did this to EVERYONE getting on this flight. First time I've ever seen this but they deffo seem to be cracking down!
So awesome to see this! I recently found your channel and was separetely looking up reviews of the larger Allpa 35 and 42. I'm planning on taking an Allpa 42 with me to the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam this winter! A note about the "del dia" colorway: They are made from random scraps from various manufacturers, so you don't get a consistent water and abrasion resistence throughout the bag.
I love my Allpa 35L! I did recently get an Aer Travel 28L for exactly the reason you described, though. I'll say that I've found the Allpa is a little uncomfortable on the shoulders when loaded up and not my absolute ideal pocket setup. I'm not retiring my Allpa, though, and it's been a good companion for many international travels! I bet you'll love it!
Oh my! I think I just found the one! I have an Osprey Porter 30L, I travel with that one for a month and a half. Loved the experience, however dound it a bit heavy so I want something a bit lighter and this one might be it! I'll be checking your review!
I'm looking for a new personal item right now, couldn't have asked for a better video from you haha!! This one seems great. Excited to see you pack for Georgia!!
This video couldn't come at a better time for me! I am flying to Malta with Ryanair next month and I am so worried my bag is too big. The measurements for the personal item are 40/25/20 and I have an Osprey Daylight Plus is 8 cm too long. And it's only 20L! This bugs me cos it's such a nice, small and light backpack which I could easily shove under the seat. So I was looking for a replacement. This Cotopaxi bag looks amazing! But the price tag is very steep I must admit! I will be waiting to see if they will let you in, Rayanair is really strict these days. Loved the video as always :)
Wonderful!!! I have the same bag for a while now and I love it!! It’s going to be my only bag for my two months trip to Mexico, you can fit so much in that bag ❤ you gonna love it!
I remember awhile back when you got that 70L Osprey, and watching all the stuff you carried around, lol. Such a big change, but a great one. You don’t need as much as you think! 28L is the way to go.
Love your videos so much! I'm going on a mini backpacking trip around Europe soon so was thinking the other day the best backpack to take! Great timing!
Yes I do think so. Probably some crew members wouldn't mind, but if you find someone picky they can make you pay because it's bigger than the allowed size. But it is a great bag!

Lovely video!! This looks like a great bag but I keep looking at it thinking god it’s too small 😅 curious for the packing vid for some inspo! I’m honestly surprised you can get away with the bum bag as well I thought they will not allow it, lucky you!
This timing is wild as I have been researching Cotopaxi for months and was thinking “I wonder what Christianne is using these days??” Time to order!!! 😅
I just got this bag! We are taking a budget airline to Ireland in March. Very nervous to see how I will be able to squeeze everything into it. I took this backpack for a little girls trip in the mountains and it was fantastic (&so cute). Curious to see how you pack it!
Ooh I loved this video! Very much looking forward to the packing video for Georgia now too. When I flew back from Aus they were SHOOK that I only had hand luggage so prepare for people to be wowed at just your personal item. Also it’ll save you money in Aus too as you won’t be able to buy clothes this time 😅
Excellent choice for a travel backpack, I've been looking at this one for quite awhile. I just wish they had a water bottle sleeve on the outside. That is the only drawback that I can see. I'm looking forward to seeing your packing videos with it!
Not sure if anyone's tried this, but a tactical/sport vest could take some spillover. Won't look very chic, but it's a garment with a multitude of pockets.
Did I book 3 weeks to Australia with Christmas? Yes. Is the cost of my ticket more than this bag? Also yes.... Do I regret it after watching this? All the yesses! 😭🤭 Can't wait for your Georgia packing tips and experience! I'm definitely motivated to try as well ❤
I've recently also bought a Cotopaxi Allpa 35l and I'm loving it. It's been fitting perfectly under the seat. I've been struggling to fill it it's so roomy, so I think you made a good choice with the 28l.
Interesting... Ryanair personal item size is 40x20x25cm and this backpack is actually 48x30x28cm. Now Ryanair is strict in matter of sizing and they do measure your bag before boarding the flight! Are you sure it's not on a carry-on sizing?
I've kind of been on a mission to travel as light as possible for the past couple years. I've managed about a week and a half with a 25l before and I thought I did well with my 40l the first time I came to Japan but the problem was drying clothes... I did my laundry in the hotel late at night and it was lucky I did cause even after 3 rounds in the dryer my clothes weren't dry enough to fully pack again, I don't know what I would have done if other people had been waiting to use it and I had only managed one cycle in the dryer everything was still practically dripping... I think I'll try a proper coin laundry next time cause the hotel machines just did not cut it.
Australian airlines do allow you to have a larger bag than this included standard, and if scoot does too you would defiantly get away with your usual bag for australia! But if you want a challenge it’ll be fun anyway! Hot in Perth that time of year so you’ll only need small clothes anyway so you’ll probably be fine!

Looking forward to seeing how you pack it out! I’m always right on the 8kg limit, the airlines who moved to a 7kg limit I don’t even know what I would remove at this point.
Oooh I would love to have this backpack in the del dia version! I LOOOVE Cotopaxi!! And we love to save money on flights haha. Obviously with some girl math it's free which is great 😂
Love this bag, but it should be noted that it wouldn't fit in the personal item sizer for most low-cost carriers. Ryan air is 40cm x 20cm x 25cm, this bag is 48 cm x 30 cm x 23 cm
the thing that I find most difficult with budget airlines like scoot is the 7kg limit they have for personal items... I'm from Europe and totally used to be able to bring at least 10kg as a carry on, and now I'm travelling Asia and it's 8kg and I have a lot of heavy tech stuff with me 😅
i love your channel and your content...HOWEVER, i think you should upgrade your camera so that you get better quality videos... gopro is great but i do believe the resolution and camera quality is keeping your channel from being much bigger then it is. everything else i love though! and that was just a outsider looking in maybe it helps maybe not. still love your personality and your channel keep it up!
I’ve never flown with Ryanair but was looking into a flight with them a couple of years ago. Their allowable personal item size is 40x25x20 cm (16x10x8 in.). At 48x30x23 cm (19x12x9 in.) your Cotopaxi Allpa 28 L is a bigger. Will it fit into the Ryanair sizer? How rigorously does Ryanair enforce its baggage restrictions? I’ve long admired the features of the Cotopaxi Allpa bags so I’m curious to see how well it works out for you.
This backpack is very similar to the Decathlon Forclaz Tavel 500. Just that this is smaller and decathlon backpack is 40L. They even have the same zip detail.
wish you had shown the packing 😅 but so curious to see how you make do of only 28L! I’ve tried before and personally think it’s worth paying extra to have a carry on at the very least. Having to do laundry every few days was just not worth it for me.
Hi christiane! Just an fyi, last time i flew with ryanair (edinburgh) they had us tuck our bum bag away in our little personal item as well. We could really only take 1 item
I have an Eagle Creek backpack which you recommended and I bought it a couple of years ago now, I absolutely love it. such a game changer. suitcase that is a backpack
Really like this backpack, but the dimensions for this pack are not within the restrictions of the budget airlines. In the US, Spirit, Allegiant, etc. seem to be 18”x14”x8”. I’m sad and confused. 😔☮️
Would you consider filming your experience flying from London to Perth on a roundabout budget flight? I'd be so intrigued to see whether saving so much money would be worth the extra hassle and discomfort! ❤ I spent a tonne of money on flights to Australia for a wedding in Dec/Jan later this year so if anyone else i know is getting married there i want to be prepared 😂😂
Really nice video . I had the Alpa 28 L and I sold it as it was frustrating . Instead I use Osprey daylite 26+6 . Here is why: - the lid area where the 2 compartments are if filled you won’t be able to close it . As the middle material tugs . I found it impossible to close . Hopefully they adjusted this flaw ( I had it years ago) - I personally think is too big for a personal item . Too heavy( over 1kg if I remember correctly ) and too big , in my opinion. If you check the dimensions of the airlines you mentioned and the dimensions of this bag , this bag is too big. Although the harness system is good I found that is still too heavy and difficult to carry. I personally would not trust it to use as a personal item but then I don’t like taking chances as you pay an arm and a leg if you get it wrong. You might however get away with it on bigger airlines Looks however durable and is a gorgeous bag . I loved the look of it but the few attempts I had to pack it , it got so frustrating that I changed it all the time . It would be interesting if you did a pack with me with this bag and let us know how did it go with Ryanair :) Have fun and thank you for the video It was such a shame I did not find it helpful ( the bag ) as it is a beautiful durable bag . But maybe is just me cx
For sure, you can’t pack the compartments to the absolute max on these otherwise they won’t close. I’ve had a few backpacks of this style so hopefully know what I’m getting myself into! And you’re correct. As for Ryanair, I’m taking my chances but I think for all the times you don’t have to pay will make up for the once or twice that maybe I will get caught out
That is definitely true particularly if you travel a lot . Well enjoy your new bag and hopefully you you have many fun adventures and create wonderful memories and hopefully you will share some of those xx

I have Allpa 35L, maybe I over pack… but not really… it’s just sooooo uncomfortable , it kills my back, it has no support😢 and I love the compartments, but it not ergonomic
In my experience, Ryanair barely ever actually measure your bag. And many people have got away with bringing bags as personal items much larger than this. I shall report back on my experiences with this one ☺️
This looks too big for Ryanair's personal item limit? I'm sure you'll still get away with it mostly. I bought one of those CabinMax backs which is exactly the right size, but no nice compartment separation
It technically is a bit too big but they’re usually not checking, so my theory is, if once or twice ever I do have it checked and have to pay extra, I still would’ve saved money for all the times I get away with it 😅
@@madda5133 I fly with Ryanair super often and they’ve never weighed or measured my carry-on bags. I shall report back if I get caught out for this one

It all depends on what sort of mood the staff are in in my opinion. I've always wondered if there's any commission when they catch a bag violation.
This backpack is very similar to the Decathlon Forclaz Tavel 500. Just that this is smaller and decathlon backpack is 40L. They even have the same zip detail.
Decathlon has such good dupes!
I bought a hip pack off this website and the colors online looked very summer and in person it’s very fall
Hahahaa that is so true 😂 love that description
wish you had shown the packing 😅 but so curious to see how you make do of only 28L!
I’ve tried before and personally think it’s worth paying extra to have a carry on at the very least. Having to do laundry every few days was just not worth it for me.
I'm curious to know how it will work for you. Don't forget to do the packing with me video so that we can see how packing that beauty will go for you.
Many packing videos with this one to come! 🤩
Please do a vlog of your journey to Australia!
Hi christiane! Just an fyi, last time i flew with ryanair (edinburgh) they had us tuck our bum bag away in our little personal item as well. We could really only take 1 item
Thanks for the heads up! I shall report back on my experience 😁
Does the 20L come with a laptop sleeve?
My backpack as well! 28 litres works great!
Combining elegance and luxury kislux
Can you please do an updated video on what camera gear you use/recommend? Thanks! Love from Aus!
I will touch on this in my packing video for Georgia! I’ll be going for a very minimal set up this time!
Thank you for the review!
I have an Eagle Creek backpack which you recommended and I bought it a couple of years ago now, I absolutely love it. such a game changer. suitcase that is a backpack
That really is such a great backpack. I still use it! And will continue to use it when I have a cabin bag allowance 😅
Which one exactly? I am still looking for the perfect carry on 🤩
@@shelley9257this was the global companion 40L but it’s been discontinued now 😢
Well I know what I’m getting next 🎒thanks for sharing 😁
Game changer I think!
Really like this backpack, but the dimensions for this pack are not within the restrictions of the budget airlines. In the US, Spirit, Allegiant, etc. seem to be 18”x14”x8”. I’m sad and confused. 😔☮️
Cotopaxi Allpa 42L next?? 👀 For those trips where you need a carry-on
Would you consider filming your experience flying from London to Perth on a roundabout budget flight? I'd be so intrigued to see whether saving so much money would be worth the extra hassle and discomfort! ❤ I spent a tonne of money on flights to Australia for a wedding in Dec/Jan later this year so if anyone else i know is getting married there i want to be prepared 😂😂
Yes I’ll deffo film that journey!!
Nice bag but shame they missed suitcase sleeve for that price. Looking forward to your Georgia 🇬🇪 trip ❤
What’s a suitcase sleeve??
@@BackpackingBananas maybe I made that up but it’s to hook through the top of your suitcase handle x
@@LadyMul ooh I see! Yes that would be nice!
I also want to know if they let you have it as personal item as it is so much taller than the usual size airlines allow.
I’ve flown with it twice already as a personal item with easyJet and Ryanair and all good so far! 😁
Thye just released the new design for the allpas yesterday and even have a mini that's only 20L!
Really nice video .
I had the Alpa 28 L and I sold it as it was frustrating . Instead I use Osprey daylite 26+6 .
Here is why:
- the lid area where the 2 compartments are if filled you won’t be able to close it . As the middle material tugs . I found it impossible to close . Hopefully they adjusted this flaw ( I had it years ago)
- I personally think is too big for a personal item .
You might however get away with it on bigger airlines
Looks however durable and is a gorgeous bag .
I loved the look of it but the few attempts I had to pack it , it got so frustrating that I changed it all the time .
It would be interesting if you did a pack with me with this bag and let us know how did it go with Ryanair :)
Have fun and thank you for the video
It was such a shame I did not find it helpful ( the bag ) as it is a beautiful durable bag .
I'm curious about the weight once it's packed 😊 we can only have 7kg in NZ and a lot of other places
I will make a packing video and include how much it weighs! 😁
@@BackpackingBananas sounds awesome! I'm not traveling anywhere anytime soon, but gosh I love packing videos haha! Yours are my favourite! Happy travels!
I like it but I prefer the Patagonia Mini MLC but I do get a discount with them 😂
Australia even major airlines only allow 1 7kg carry on bag and no personal item
It’s wild how they are all doing it these days!!
Do you still have an AG1 affiliate link? I’m going to be subscribing soon ahead of my first trip to India in October, so will give you the referral if you still have it?
Can you share a link to your other channel for your flat? I can’t seem to find it and I don’t want to miss a post! 🙈
I love the way you explain everything. Colour schemes not for me and it's very pricey nevertheless a very nice vlog
not me taking notes when i have the exact backpack in the exact same color ✍✍✍✍✍
oh also, they just updated the design of their Allpa bags. (i like the old designs better. aka this one)
Is this the newest version? (They just re-released
This is old version I think. The New ones have water bottle holder, clamshells open other way, and a few other changes!
I have Allpa 35L, maybe I over pack… but not really… it’s just sooooo uncomfortable , it kills my back, it has no support😢 and I love the compartments, but it not ergonomic
I agree, these packs are deffo not made to be worn for a long time!
But this is never going to be allowed in ryan air? it’s to big ?
In my experience, Ryanair barely ever actually measure your bag. And many people have got away with bringing bags as personal items much larger than this. I shall report back on my experiences with this one ☺️
you bought this at the wrong time they just released a new version 😅😅 good news is if you contact them they will exchange for free :)
Wow! So cool..😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
This looks too big for Ryanair's personal item limit? I'm sure you'll still get away with it mostly. I bought one of those CabinMax backs which is exactly the right size, but no nice compartment separation
It technically is a bit too big but they’re usually not checking, so my theory is, if once or twice ever I do have it checked and have to pay extra, I still would’ve saved money for all the times I get away with it 😅
yeah, i though the personal item is just a little bit bigger than a laptop carrier
Rayan air : 40 x20 x 25. And this backpack is 48 ×30 × 23.
I think it is good for easyjet but not for rayan air...
@@BackpackingBananasyou go with rayan aur frequently? They control, I assure you.
@@madda5133 I fly with Ryanair super often and they’ve never weighed or measured my carry-on bags. I shall report back if I get caught out for this one
Is too big for Ryanair unfortunately
Just went to REI and exchanged my Allpa 28 for the new version! (I had not used it yet as our trip to Israel was cancelled) It has all the upgrades I would have picked! I look forward to seeing what airlines you are able to use yours as a personal item.
❤❤❤
