I also have a degree in nutrition science and have been actively searching for a prenatal with L-methylfolate. So glad to hear you talk about this! I work in healthcare and no one knows what I'm talking about when I bring up MTHFR variation.

When consuming the same amount of folic acid, people with the MTHFR 677 TT genotype have an average amount of folate in their blood that is only slightly lower (about 16% lower) than people with the MTHFR 677 CC genotype.

Just came across your channel. My wife just found out she is pregnant 🤰 a few weeks ago so I've been going crazy to find out as much information possible to get her the best vitamins and stuff. Yeah, I'm one of those guys 😆 So glad I found your channel. Thank you for your hard work and very informative content. You earned yourself another sub ma'am! God bless.
I take the natural calm every night too. My favorite combo is the cherry mixed with lime La Croix. It’s so refreshing and almost like you’re having a tart fizzy cocktail. If you haven’t tried it in sparkling water yet you should, I’m obsessed!
I was prescribed a prenatal by my doctor during my pregnancy. I don’t know what was in it (there was no listing of ingredients) We ended up losing that baby at 9 weeks 4 days. This time I’m taking folate before we conceive. I hope we can have our rainbow baby soon 🌈
I'm so sorry for you loss. I also lost my baby back in July. We were 20 weeks, and the same thing with me too.. Given prenatal by the Dr with no ingredients listed so this time I'm making sure I do my research too. I wish you the best in trying to conceive again
Karina Garcia sorry for your loss too! I am currently taking Pink Stork total prenatal with dha. I chose that because I don’t eat fish and that prenatal didn’t contain fish oil. My nails are growing so fast! That didn’t happened when I took the one prescribed by my doctor. Sending love your way 💕🌈💕🌈
I am so happy that I just came across this video. I am 8 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and was actually taking an additional folic acid supplement with my prenatal vitamin. I stopped today. My 1st born was actually tongue tied and we found out at 1 year. He is 11 but still takes speech therapy in school. I am so happy to have learned this information. Thank you.

Thanks for the recommendation. You mentioned mama bird prenatal had raspberry leaf. Will it be safe during first and second trimester? What is your next recommendation?
Love this info! Are you planning on changing your vitamin protocol after you have the baby. I’m due any day and my vitamins are about to run out. Are postnatal vitamins any different? I’m going to breastfeed. Would you change your vitamins based on that? Thanks so much!
Thank you Becca!! This was so helpful in that it allowed me to see that I am right on track with what I am taking and doing during my pregnancy. It's soooo hard to know what you need, esp when you sometimes feel like the MD or NP doesn't even know (i.e. Folic Acid vs Folate). For any other soon to be mommas out there just want to add that the Natural Calm DEFINITELY DOES help with constipation, at least for me. I only wish I had thought of it sooner! It was one of my worst first trimester symptoms (+bloating). I actually take the Rasp-Lemon Mag + Calcium since I don't eat dairy. It's fantastic! Thanks again and keep the healthy info coming!

My OB/GYN gave me the same crazy look when I asked about folate prenatals. She also told me if it’s on the shelf it’s FDA safe. I also told her pass and I will look for folate prenatals
Hey Becca!! What is your thought on the gummy vitamins? I’m asking this halfway through the video so if you touch on this in the second half I apologize!! :)
Hi! Do you think it’s ok to drink 2 servings of Calm Magnesium everyday while pregnant? I have sounds it’s one of the only things that help with my digestion
The reason why the prenatal doesn’t contain very much calcium because it blocks the absorption of other key nutrients in the prenatal vitamin. It’s best to either consume calcium rich foods or supplement with a separate calcium supplement.
Hi Becca!! Congrats again but can you do a video about what you don't take/use/eat anymore now that you are pregnant... I just love your opinion on things.
Thank you so much for the information specially folate vs folic acid. Currently pregnant and wanted to have that clear to make sure I’m doing things right 💕🙌🏼
Such a helpful video! Thank you for sharing Becca! I just found out I’m pregnant last week and am trying to figure out exactly what my body will need for a health pregnancy. Always love your recommendations!
I am so glad you mentioned folic acid. I took some in preparation to conceive and got SO SICK. For 48 hours. Just ill. It was awful. 🤢 I swore the stuff off even though I wasn’t sure why it made me so sick. A pregnancy app recommended it and my midwife had no clue why it made me sick. Thank you for explaining what I couldn’t have known otherwise! I have a prenatal with folate now thank goodness.
You were probably sick for some other reason. www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/folicacid/mthfr-gene-and-folic-acid.html Below are some relevant extracts: 1. does the active form of methyl folate help prevent neural tube defects? Also since I'll never be able to test for mthfr is methyl folate better to take before, during pregnancy over folic acid?
Doesn’t calcium block the absorption of iron? The Baby & Me prenatal doesn’t have calcium because it blocks iron. & they recommend taking iron & calcium at separate times for that reason!
I just found your channel yesterday & I’ve literally been watching nonstop. I’m 21 weeks pregnant now so your videos have been super helpful! I loveeee your videos. You’re officially one of my favorite TH-camr ❤️❤️
Hi, You mentioned the importance of taking the active form of folate, the prenatal vitamin that I'm taking Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal lists Folate (from culture of S. cerevisiae) Do you think this is a good form of folate to take? I look forward to your suggestion. Your video has been so helpful!
Girl, I just found your channel and I am obsessed!!! I need to binge watch!! I started with your video about planning your natural childbirth and went on to listen to the podcast you recommended and loved it!! I had a natural home birth with my first baby and started sharing similar content but just from a mom's perspective who took the hypnobirthing and Bradley method courses, but your background as a dietitian is amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! I'm about 6 weeks away from giving birth for the second time so I'm just trying to get back into that mindset for the second time. Cannot wait to binge on all your content hehe 🧡🧡
Thank you for this information. I’m pregnant for the first time at age 40 and have received little to no help with anything regarding pregnancy at this point. My first ultrasound is tomorrow (can’t wait to find out how far along I am)! I am so sick of feeling icky and lazy. Unfortunately I’ve already had a migraine headache (usually get one every 5-10 years) and now a cold sore. Do you have any tips to help me and also what are your thoughts on L-lysine use during pregnancy? Thank you so much for this video
It’s so crazy that they taught you about MTHFR in school and the majority of conventional physicians are still clueless. I always assumed it was only functional medicine or naturopathic doctors who knew but hearing that you’re taught it in school too makes me think conventional doctors are majorly slacking on their research. I mean come on I have no background in medicine or diet and I learned about the most bioavailable forms of vitamins just through my own research.
Thanks for sharing this!! I’ll definitely be sharing it as much as I can. I feel like this is incredibly important information that a lot of women don’t know.
Thank you for the info 😱 wow!!! We’re hoping for baby 2 soon , and getting as much information as possible! 💕 I’m so excited for you and your hubby ❤️❤️
I'm not pregnant currently, but we're going to start trying in 6 months. Right now, I'm trying to decide on prenatals to take to get my body ready. Would you recommend taking JUST the prenatal vitamin or should I take the extra DHA & magnesium as well?
Super helpful video, thank you!! I think you mentioned the red raspberry tea leaf was in your prenatal but since it’s not in mine do you recommend any particular supplement for this? Or should I just drink the tea everyday? It’s unfortunate that medical doctors are not trained in nutrition/supplements much. My OB barely looked at my prenatal that I took with me to my first appt and kindof skimmed over the topic. Disappointing. So your expertise helped so much, wish I had known some of this sooner! I am 20 weeks pregnant, we’re so close! :)
F M i think it is not recommended drinking the tea until you are around 35 weeks. It might give you contractions. You can do your research but my midwife told me to start around 36 weeks, however some people take it around 30 weeks .
Ah!! Someone is bringing up MTHFr! Thank you lol. Its actually becoming so much more common in my area for people to know about and get tested for. And yes, my friend had 2 miscarriages before finding out she needed folate :( Thanks Becca!!
Dimitra Weiss / If The Stiletto Fits brought me here!! And now I'm going to binge watch your pregnancy journey and listen to your Pregnancy Podcast on my walks
Hi Becca! I know this is an older video, but I was wondering- my prenatal is Garden Of Life, it has Folate( culture of S. Cerevisiae). I’m assuming that’s as what you mentioned but that’s just how they get it?
everyone should take magnesium, also when taking D3 we need K2 mk7 to disperse magnesium and calcium where it needs to be. I have learned a ton of info on vitamins and minerals in menopause fb groups...tonnns of knowledge in the rooms. Magnesium is life changing for so so many. I use tab, spray on my feet and the calm, which ever i feel like..the mag oil bypasses the stomach which is the best form, and its super cheap to make you own.
Im 5 weeks pregnant 🤰! I had 2 miscarriages before. Im wondering if i drink the calm drink every night?!? Is it safe to take it in the early pregnancy and until the very end and also breastfeeding?
Ahhh, see. Your prenatal hack wouldn't work for me. You said you usually take yours, with a full meal. Sadly, I didn't eat a full meal until I was 6 months along. 😆 Morning sickness (better yet HG) is reeeal. Sorry to hear you didn't have an easier side of the spectrum. I definitely feel you. 😔 If you're looking for an Organic, Whole food Based Prenatal with Folate. Look into Mega Foods Baby and Me. 😎😚
Thank you sooo much for making this video! I've been a subscriber for a few years and love when you share your knowledge! I have been looking for a prenatal vitamin but feel so overwhelmed by all of the options. This was extremely helpful, congratulations on your pregnancy

Hey Becca! I’m from Canada, The Best Nest Mama Bird Prenatal doesn’t ship to me. I’m just wondering if there was another brand of prenatal you’d recommend?
Whole Earth & Sea and is a product of Canada. It comes in dark glass bottle which I trust more. Only thing is it makes me gassy in the evening, but it could be because of hormones and slower digestion. I'm 17 weeks.
So I actually just picked out prenatals today and I don't really have much knowledge on nutrition other than the basics. I almost got everything dead on correct except for mine has Folic Acid instead of Folate and I've never been tested for that mutation so I have no idea if I really should be taking the Folate instead, hopefully I don't, crossing my fingers.
Hi Becca! This was SO informative. Thank you for taking the time to make this. Can you please link a iron supplement you were talking about? Bifera something (I have no clue what that is) but I need iron and it makes me sick to my stomach to take!! Thank you!💕💕
Help!! I’m looking at my prenatals right now, and on the back it says Folate, 1333mcg DFE. But then... it says (800mcg Folic Acid). So which one is in my pills? 😬
Hi, Melody. Some supplement companies include both folate in the form of methylfolate AND folic acid. This actually shows their lack of understanding the methylation process and how folic acid factors in. Companies usually use folic acid because (1) It's synthetic and cheaper to make and (2) because they just go with the mainstream, and folic acid has been mainstream for a long time. One problem with including folic acid is methylfolate utilization can be blocked by the folic acid -- it actually interferes with the enzymes that are tasked with using methylfolate and the other folates coming from our foods. Unlike folic acid, MethylFolate, when consumed, does not have to be converted into active folate-being already the body’s most active folate form, it can be immediately used by our folate enzyme systems. That's what Becca explained in her video! Hope that helps!
I know I'm super late to the game since you posted this a year ago. My mother is a RD, so I'm somewhat familiar with what you're talking about. Dr. Jolene Brighten is a naturopathic doctor that I follow and I've just ordered her Prenatal Plus vitamins (baby #4) and I was curious what your thoughts are on the ingredients in her prenatal. Love your videos! So glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I wish they taught us more about nutrition in APRN programs. I’m a CNM and was taught folate over folic acid, especially with the rampant MTHFR out there. Hopefully others catch on with time!
From what I understand dairy products actually leach calcium from us instead of giving it to us, because the form it's in, in the dairy milk etc, our bodies don't get to process it properly. Of course it's worse with regular dairy products, like mainstream name brands than say with organic grass fed cows without the hormones, unnatural diet, etc..... thinking the gmo grains most cafo cows are fed while confined in a stall all day contributes to toxic products. I was very unhealthy with upper respiratory infections much of my life after vaxes in elementary school and the dairy played a role. The cheese seems to not have as great a detrimental impact as the milk for some reason. The nut milks are way better for me including almond, cashew, and coconut, plus have more calcium the body can more easily process and utilize. I still love cheese and so long as I stick to organic cheeses I'm good!! Lots of people explaining why cows milk doesn't actually supply calcium but leaches it from our bodies. So maybe pull up more videos on that because I cannot quote them verbatim. Lots of science behind everything and since learning just about everything we're told by mainstream is upside down and backwards, I love looking through alternative information and sifting through it intuitively to make my own decisions. I recommend everyone do that for themselves because we are not a one size fits all deal and may have things which affect us each differently. I have a friend who did her DNA because they had an offer to also tell her about her genetics in regards to her health and what foods would make her healthier and which ones might make her ill. She had to do things a lot differently than everyone else. She's someone who cannot have any dairy nor anything with calcium. I never can remember the name of the DNA test but it's not one with words as a name, it's 3 letters idk, gri crg gci??? It's the only testing company which doesn't sell your information and gives you lists going back thousands of years of your entire ancestry, everyone you're related to and how, the complete migratory pattern your family's took etc etc etc...... gives a lot of information on your DNA more than any other..... I want to do this one when I get the chance and definitely no other test. The others all suck in comparison and are a complete waste of money, and highly inaccurate and very general.
When I took methylfolate it made my anxiety go through the roof. Especially the amount that’s in the prenatals. Did this happen to you? What can I do? I need to take L-methylfolate because I have MTHFR gene variant.
Hi Becca. Thanks so much for this video! I was curious if you had any recommendations for prenatal vitamins/DHA that was more affordable? I loved the idea of using one with folate vs. folic acid, but it’s costing me $65 a month for the prenatal/DHA and I’m trying to save for my 7,000 out of pocket insurance costs 😞 . Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your helpful video. How much of folate should you take. I use vitamin code prenatals which is 800mg. Just recovering from a MC so want to take all the preventative measures I can take
I took Best Nest Mama Bird for two because of this video. Turns out they have the worst lead content! Way over safe limits! I stopped taking them immediately!

Hi, I know this video is 7 month old. I'm trying to get pregnant. I would like to know your opinion on "Ritual" prenatal vitamin. It has active form of folate, and has interesting approach to it's ingredients lists. I would appreciate your help.
Hi Becca! I love watching your pregnancy vlog! I have a question , when did you start drinking the Mama Bird prenatal ? I’m just cautious to drink it in the first trimester because it has red raspberry leaf content in it , according to most research that red raspberry leaf should be taken only during the last trimester to be safe , because it can cause miscarriage during first trimester . And I don’t want to take risk. That’s why I’m asking when did you start taking it ? Thank you .
Hi, Natalie! We would like to clear up any misinformation about red raspberry leaf. The amount of red raspberry leaf in each of our tablets is 120 mg. As a comparison, the amount of red raspberry leaf in a capsule is 450 mg and the amount in a cup of tea is 1500-1800 mg per cup. Red raspberry leaf is a herb known to mothers all over the world as a herb to ease nausea. It is okay to take in all trimesters, including the first trimester in small doses, which is what our formula contains. Dr. Aviva Romm, MD has a well-researched paper about the benefits and safety of red raspberry leaf during pregnancy: avivaromm.com/herbal-medicines-in-pregnancy-safety/ Naturally high in magnesium, potassium, iron, and B vitamins, Red Raspberry Leaf helps to ease nausea and leg cramps. Here's another great article: deeprootsathome.com/red-raspberry-leaf-tea-danger-help/ As always, we are here to help you Build Your Best Nest.
Thank you for your video, very informative. Do you have any advice on if using Isagenix 'Isalean' shakes while pregnant is safe? I've read mixed reviews and would love your input if you have any. Thanks!
I also have a degree in nutrition science and have been actively searching for a prenatal with L-methylfolate. So glad to hear you talk about this! I work in healthcare and no one knows what I'm talking about when I bring up MTHFR variation.

Yayayyy thank you for going over this! So important for people to understand the difference between folate and folic acid!

Thank you, I am newly pregnant and I really appreciate the information! ❤️ You are so smart and I am so thankful you’re on TH-cam.
I truly appreciate the information you have provided 🙏 but please tell me why the product reviews are so bad on these prenatal vitamins. 🤦♀️

Thanks for the recommendation. You mentioned mama bird prenatal had raspberry leaf. Will it be safe during first and second trimester? What is your next recommendation?
I saw mama bird has lead in it! It was in a recent news article! Ideally this would be great but This just came out! 😢😢😢
I saw that ! I didnt buy them :( I am. Looking into" baby and me 2 "
Thank you so much! I’m in my first trimester and just ordered the supplements you recommend, the way you explained folate makes sense!

You were probably sick for some other reason. www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/folicacid/mthfr-gene-and-folic-acid.html
Below are some relevant extracts:
1. You might have read or heard that folic acid is not safe if you have one or two copies of the MTHFR C677T variant. This is not true. Even if you have one or two copies of the MTHFR C677T variant, your body can safely and effectively process the different types of folate, including folic acid.
2. When consuming the same amount of folic acid, people with the MTHFR 677 TT genotype have an average amount of folate in their blood that is only slightly lower (about 16% lower) than people with the MTHFR 677 CC genotype.
does the active form of methyl folate help prevent neural tube defects? Also since I'll never be able to test for mthfr is methyl folate better to take before, during pregnancy over folic acid?
Doesn’t calcium block the absorption of iron? The Baby & Me prenatal doesn’t have calcium because it blocks iron. & they recommend taking iron & calcium at separate times for that reason!
I can’t consume fish products. Do you think the DHA from plant products is as good as the dha from fish?
I just found your channel yesterday & I’ve literally been watching nonstop. I’m 21 weeks pregnant now so your videos have been super helpful! I loveeee your videos. You’re officially one of my favorite TH-camr ❤️❤️
Hi, You mentioned the importance of taking the active form of folate, the prenatal vitamin that I'm taking Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal lists Folate (from culture of S. cerevisiae) Do you think this is a good form of folate to take? I look forward to your suggestion. Your video has been so helpful!
A naturopath who specialized in fertility recommended this brand to me!
Thanks so much! I was really confused about folate vs. folic acid and this really helped.
Interesting video!! What do you think of the prenatal Baby & Me by Mega Foods
I felt the same exact way regarding the pros and cons and no option being perfect. I also ended up choosing best nest a while back.
What premarital were you using before you got pregnant? Was it the same one that you were using during pregnancy?
Hi becca. Would it be safe to switch to folate if you’ve already been taking folic acid for several months? X
Thank you for your lengthy research on this!!! We all appreciate it
I'm not pregnant currently, but we're going to start trying in 6 months.
SourAndSweets ok thanks
Hi Becca! Have you looked into Vitamin Code? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
Ah!! Someone is bringing up MTHFr! Thank you lol. Its actually becoming so much more common in my area for people to know about and get tested for. And yes, my friend had 2 miscarriages before finding out she needed folate :( Thanks Becca!!
I've been searching for prenatals with folate. Do you know what prenatals she took?
Dimitra Weiss / If The Stiletto Fits brought me here!! And now I'm going to binge watch your pregnancy journey and listen to your Pregnancy Podcast on my walks
I love this video. I always check back on it when I'm expecting !
Julie Diaz I just wanted to write a comment about D3 and K2! So important to take them together!
Well said Julie, do you have an email so I can ask you some more questions? Thank you
Even pregnant woman can take magnesium??
Chelsea, yes, just not magnesium citrate. 😊
I'm 17 weeks and I also felt sick all the time. Now nausea is better but I'm getting low BP.
If you're looking for an Organic, Whole food Based Prenatal with Folate. Look into Mega Foods Baby and Me. 😎😚
I noticed that the prenatal vitamins contain vitamin A, is it safe? My doctor has suggested that vitamin A should be avoided during pregnancy.
Thank you sooo much for making this video! I've been a subscriber for a few years and love when you share your knowledge! I have been looking for a prenatal vitamin but feel so overwhelmed by all of the options. This was extremely helpful, congratulations on your pregnancy
Smart girl! So many don't know about MTHFR and folic acid!

Hey Becca! I’m from Canada, The Best Nest Mama Bird Prenatal doesn’t ship to me. I’m just wondering if there was another brand of prenatal you’d recommend?
same question.
Whole Earth & Sea and is a product of Canada. It comes in dark glass bottle which I trust more. Only thing is it makes me gassy in the evening, but it could be because of hormones and slower digestion. I'm 17 weeks.
Thank you for this video Becca! I love how you explain everything. Will definitely keep all these supplements in mind for my next pregnancy 😀
Did you get your hair colored lighter? It looks really good!
So excited to watch! I’m counting down the next few months so i can start TTC ❤️
Mines says the same 😣
@@BestNestWellness hi do you know any prenatals that have folate ?

Can you take Magnesium if your not pregnant?
Hello I was wondering what your opinion is on the Actif Organic Prenatal? Thx
It’s happening to me as well
How many mg are you taking?
I tried to take magnesium but I got twitches at night ..it was awful. I am extremely sensitive to medications and have bad anxiety
Hi can I take a multivitamin coq10 b12 d3 and evening primrose all together or do I need to take them at separate times, please answer
Hey girl. Thank you for the video! It doesn’t look like we can get the Best Nest prenatal in Canada. Would the Thorne Research prenatal be comparable?
Hi! New to your channel & just watched 2 vids. Are you still taking the four sigmatic teas now that you’re pregnant?
Such a helpful video!! Thoughts on the care/of prenatal?
Are all types of probiotics safe to take during pregnancy?
Oh my gosh! I have so many things to learn and i am 5 weeks pregnant...
Can you please share the link for this vitamin. Where I can buy it. Thanks
Very informative . Unfortunately my ob never told me to take folic acid with my first pregnancy, with my second i took them.
Becca! OH MY GOSH! Thank you so much for the education on folic acid vs folate! I LOVED this video! I love watching your videos on your pregnancy! 💕

Can you recommend a brand of, I think you said Bifera Iron that is safe in pregnancy? Thanks
I use to take folate acid but had to stop because like clock work I would throw up after taking it. I thought I had a allergy.
Dr. Aviva Romm, MD has a well-researched paper about the benefits and safety of red raspberry leaf during pregnancy: avivaromm.com/herbal-medicines-in-pregnancy-safety/
Naturally high in magnesium, potassium, iron, and B vitamins, Red Raspberry Leaf helps to ease nausea and leg cramps.

Thank you so much the for great information Becca ! Appreciate it ! Happy Holidays ! 😘
What are your thoughts on the Enfamom prenatal vitamins?
Would this prenatal be ok to take before becoming prego, if there is red rasbery in it?
Can you leave a link for the tea you mentioned?
When do I take my prenatal and other supplements. Like vitamin c, green boost drink, vitamin d, iron, magnesium???? So confusing
Ideally 3-6 months before you plan to get pregnant
Thank you for your video, very informative. Do you have any advice on if using Isagenix 'Isalean' shakes while pregnant is safe? I've read mixed reviews and would love your input if you have any. Thanks!
Can you take hair skin and nail vitamins along with prentals when your pregnant ?
So informative and I love listening to you!
Yayyyy! I've been waiting for this video! I'm so excited to watch it! 😁
This is a great video! My mom is a dietitian too & she’s had me taking vitamin D for years (among another stockpile of vitamins lol)
Hi! Could you please ask your mom what brand of calcium she recommeds?
Can I ask if there was another prenatal that you found with folate?
This video was so helpful and informative!! Thanks girl!!
