Fabulous episode! I'm totally inspired by your inspirations, and looking forward to seeing your cute 'fit in progress--and maybe also in action on The Hill in October! Loving all these fall sweater vibes so much. Re: buttons--I've found several good ones at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley.
You are too sweet! I love knitting too and all the wonderful and amazing dimensions to it! How lucky are we to have this art that engages our brain and our heart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So much to love here - first and foremost the joy with which you share all your creative inspiration (many notes were taken!) and of course, the beautiful makes. The Millie cardigan is everything I aspire to when I think of easy Bay Area style, the play by play of your colorwork outfit extravaganza, the thought process of your color/contrast choices and the siren song of the framed all in the background…. And the hula hoop section may be my favourite part. What a joy to share this time here with you again! ❤
@@jackiekeala Thank you, Jackie! 🤗 Your words are a gift and I so appreciate you ❤️ New colorwork sweater has been cast on and more plans brewing! Here’s to all the waterfalls of inspiration and our making community 🥂
Beautiful sweaters! I have been knitting for a long time and even though I prefer knitting top down, I have noticed that my old sweaters have more “structure” because of the seams. I was a sewer so have confidence “setting in sleeves”, etc. You are such a skilled knitter that mastering the mattress stitch and pinning/basting a project together should be a piece of cake for you! I’m very intimidated by the Millie sweater. Gorgeous work!!
Thank you for your confidence! I am definitely intimidated by the seams, but I also know that the challenge helps us feel like we are moving forward! :) Your thoughts on structure are really helpful too. Thanks again and happy knitting!
Thank you so much! It's one of my favorite parts of the process for sure, and I've wondered if I might teach a class on it one day--I love getting folks excited about color!
Fabulous cardigans, if we could see them 😊 It was strange only seeing the sleeves and neck of your knitted projects when you spent talking about them so in detail.
Thanks for all the inspiration! I love how excited you are to talk about knitting. I made a pressed flowers cardigan last year and the body took forever, but the sleeves seemed to go by quicker. You can do it! You’re going to love the final product. And as far as Marie Wallen's colorwork - I heard that she often does it flat. So you might need to convert to round. I also think the term “Aran” to the British actually equals our worsted weight. So confusing!
Yes! Luckily I have the patterns and hit gauge for the Marie Wallins and it’s true the Aran weight is knit at an almost heavy DK weight?! Thank you so much for your kind comment ❤
I loved hearing about the path from your initial inspiration to your vision and narrowing down patterns you could use with stash yarn. Would also love to see the final outfit with the orange skirt! 🔥
Yes Lily!!!! I love how jazzed you are about your colourwork mash-up! I so adore seeing how you share your process of planning your vision- from colour combos, to outfit ideas and colourwork motifs. I can't wait to follow this journey you're on.
Love, love your pressed flower cardigan! I would do the collar and then finish with the sleeves. That way you will have the structure of the collar to help fit the sleeves.
Just started the pressed flower, did not particularly liked it before, but I am making the D’Aisy by Monnstruckknits and I liked it so much I wanted to do more flowers……but I gave myself a year to make it, because it is for a summerdress. No pressure. ( for the moment😁) Good luck with yours. I always say, three rows a day will get you to the end too.
❤ Oh I’m SO excited to see it in the wild! After swatching, I’m integrating more tonals into the Marie Wallin and going to do the punchy orange in another application, I think?! In any case, I’m SO excited for fall, and I’d love to see your creation at Rhinebeck! 🤗
Thank you so much! Color ways come and go from spincycle, but you can also check the stock at LYS. I believe I got mine either at Starlight Knitting Society in Portland or from A Verb for Keeping Warm here in Berkeley. 🤗
Loved your sharing of your creative inspirational revelatory process around the drop shoulder color work Fall sweater. Might I recommend you have a look at Tracey Doxey's colorwork patterns on ravelry - a bit bolder than Marie Wallen's color palette. She teaches on line colorwork classes from time to time. I will say that would be amazing to attend an in person class with Marie!!
Omg-- we are totally on the same wavelength! I've just cast on a marie wallin colorwork pattern, also inspired by bright, punchy colors from rtw sweaters, also to wear to rhinebeck. Can't wait to see your vision come to life, especially cause I bought the pride & prejudice advent last year and have been wracking my brain with what I can make 😅 The other loops sweater in the spincycle also looks like a beautiful project plan!
Highly recommend a day trip to Sebastopol for a peak at their button wall and legacy thrift shop, all proceeds benefit the senior center and there are fun other things to do too… oh and they have yarn and more!
Hi Lily! Just an FYI… I added steek stitches at the sleeves and knit my Framed in the round. It was my first time steeking and was so easy. Also, I used DK yarn so it wouldn’t be so warm - double worsted just sounds too 🥵. Tammi, Wool and Wine
Hi first time watching u l, ❤ your channel! Question on pressed flower cardigan on your three needle bind off. First of all I think that is the perfect option to seaming; I hate seaming too! Did u do it wrong sides together? If u did if it was done right sides together the seam would have been on the inside. Possibly u wanted seam In the outside🤷♀️.
That's right! I wanted that little exposed braid line because the motif wasn't going to line up perfectly due to the shoulder slope decreases. I think it works well, but if I didn't have to worry about the pattern work I probably would have done the seam inside!
I so enjoyed your podcast today. I look forward to knitting everyday. What is your Ravelry moniker? I tried the link but it wants me to go to browsers and since I’m on Ravelry most of the time I can just put you in my friends. Now for the question? Did you run 2 strands of birdie with your Turtle Dove or just the one? It’s pretty fluffy yarn. Your version gave me so many ideas. Oh and I went to Verb in July and bought an insane amount of yarn. 😮 their colors are just so gorgeous. 53:11 Laurie
I agree so much about your thoughts on hobbies! I only started knitting in 2021, and it does seem like there's a great community of knitters and fibre artists.
New subscriber here. Guess what cardigan I'm currently knitting? Pressed Flowers! Funny, because I just started today and wanted something to watch while I'm working so slow mosaic and you presented your project.
Made my Saturday morning! I’m going to do my first Marie Wallin project from the Aran book this fall. I should have ‘shopped’ from stash but I bought a kit. 🙄
OMG do the pressed flowers patterns take FOREVER. I'm just doing the cowl and it's been in time out for months because I just got so annoyed. It's gorgeous but MAN.
Please, please put your camera more back. I would have loved to see your finished objects in full which was impossible with you being so near the camera.
Welcome back, great to see you again. What movie was that blue yarn named for? You said the line and I didn’t get the reference but I am so interested.
It’s from the Pride and Prejudice Collection from Hello Stella! She has some amazing posts on instagram where she connects the scenes from the 2005 film with the color ways and they are just perfection! ❤
Always look forward to your podcast! I did not see in your notes the name of the sweater you are wearing in the video. The spelling is needed because Raverly can be very fussy at times. Thank you 😊
Just curious what method the Marie Wallin patterns use if you passed on Framed because you didn't want to knit color work flat? You mentioned you were not comfortable with seaming so I imagine steeking would be out of the question. I totally agree with you about how wonderful the knitting community is!
Actually. . . I have steeled before and I’ll do it again! Both times I did it previously I steeled and then picked up stitches from the steeled edge and it worked out great. That’s the plan at least! 🤗
Lily, I am so glad I found you. I love all your ideas. I love your way of thinking. You are a beautiful knitter. i’ve made a tank top and a pair of socks so far well besides back in the day making scarves, but I wanna make garments and socks now . I love the short sleeve sweater. You are wearing right now ,the Misurina . what was the yarn that you use? I would love to do it exactly if I can. It is so beautiful. I’m hoping that Yarn is still available.
@@lindacornelius3451 Yes 🙌 You can totally do it! The yarn is La Bien Aimee Marino Singles and I don’t have the color on me, the color changing yarn for the contrast color is call “every rose” and it’s from Spincycle!
Make sure when you are choosing yarns for your color-work that you do NOT choose super-wash yarn, the yarns needs to be able to stick together with each other, super-wash takes this ability to away from the yarn.
Great episode! Love seeing your beautiful knits . You are the third person I've heard of having serious yarn chicken concerns with the Turtle Dove cardigan. I had to buy an extra skein in order to get my hem and cuffs to pattern specs. And this was from a kit sold by Sonder and getting gauge. I love it but it was nerve wracking at the end.

Would love to have seen some details and full length shots of your lace cardigan, are these on Instagram or Ravelry to see? Many thanks!

I’m a big fan of the 3 needle bind off. I do mine on the wrong side so no ridge shows on the right side of the garment.
Yes! I considered that option too, but I do like the little detail and it will match the ribbing for this one. Great idea! 😊
