MSR XGK EX stove on Diesel fuel

- I couldn't find any videos of people using Diesel fuel with the MSR XGK EX stove, so I uploaded this one. While it seems to work just fine after it gets going, the long startup process makes this a last option for me. White Gas seems to work fine and is much faster, and only a little bit more expensive
you can warm up stove on everclear or iso alcohol for much faster results.
You have a torch. Use it to preheat the generator before you even introduce fuel to it. Works great.
For diesel or kerosene, try a wick of toilet paper (1square, twisted) soaked in the diesel and placed the burner bell, near generator loop. It will burn long enough to get your stove primed and burning right.
That is a great idea! When I have some more time, I'll be trying out a few different methods and posting them back here. I like the idea of being able to use Diesel as 1.) I can get it easily from my water separator drain valve on my truck, and 2.) I could then use it as a heat source for very cold starts in the mountains if needed, especially after a backpacking winter trip... Thanks Davey Bernard!
even tho some stoves can run diesel, its not worth it. white gas is cleanest, unleaded is cheap and easy to find, kero is in the middle for cleanness and won't explode. I prefer Kero. stay away from diesel and unleaded even tho its nice to know your stove can use at least unleaded.

That was a huge ordeal compared to white gas!
Yeah, I had been hoping to be able to use diesel like I use white gas, since I have a diesel truck, but after trying it out I realized that it is a pain. I may make a video in the future that shows the different options. A 50/50 blend of white gas and kerosene, sorta like Amish Fuel, works well, lights easy but is hotter like kerosene.
@@JohnBodylski I have been using a 25/75 white gas to kerosene blend myself in my wisperlight international, and I agree that it works very well and retains the higher heat value of the kerosene well.the one thing I wish it did was reduce the soot ,as I believe that the white gas makes maybe 1/4 of the amount and stinks way less.Thanks for the great video and I believe only one of someone using diesel in there stove!
@@JohnBodylski So is diesel basically the least best fuel to use in these multi fuel type stoves? Shame if so as I live on a farm so have access to diesel and I don't like using lpg or petrol for using in a motorhome.

@@JohnBodylskiI've ran my stove off a blend of used motor oil and gasoline. Maybe almost up to 50/50. I bet you can get yours working on diesel with a bit of gas mixed in. Maybe even like a 90/10. Plus that would make the diesel catch really easy for priming.
Those tiles looks familiar to me, are you also have a Svea 123/r?

Yup, had the proper jet in it. You can see my other videos where I mixed in white gas, really helped get it going faster.
@@JohnBodylski I have never tried diesel so I didn't know what it looked like to try and run it. I personally would prefer not to mix anything with it because I would want it to run like it's the apocalypse. Because that's all we're doing here. We're men that never grow up and pretend we are "surviving" the apocalypse.
