The whole of the Carolux Rex album is in two languages. Swedish and English. But Sabaton didn't want to just do the same song in two languages. No, they went even further.
In Swedish, the songs are about the individual involved. Those who were there.
In English, the songs are from the point of view of an outsider looking in.
Both versions have different lyrics and meanings.

Thanks! That's really cool. As a Swede, I've more or less exclusively listened to the Swedish version. Reading the English lyrics, it's more focused on the 30 year war and the madness of going to war in the first place, whilst the Swedish lyrics are generalised to the view-point of any soldier in any war.

One of my favorite things about Sabaton is how they do not glorify war. How can a band with the songs Lifetime of war, Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli and so many more where they sing of the death, the pointlessness and the tragedy that is war ever glorify it. They may sing of war but they do so to remember and honor the men and women who fought and died in the struggles of their times. Even their songs about heroes often reflect on the horrors they suffered, Audie Murphy and his PTSD, Bull Allen and his humbleness, Lawerence of Arabia and his disputed legacy in the middle east. They do a brilliant job of teaching us all through their amazing music so that we never forget what these Men and Women suffered through.

I can recommend the English version of this song as well "A Lifetime of War". It's, just like this one, about the 30 year war, but more as a whole, not from the perspective of soldiers. More about how stupid war is, especially one that goes 30 years, which back then was about the average lifespan of a human.

Bear in mind, the average lifespan tends to get thrown off by the drastically higher mortality rate for young children and infants until you get into the modern era, since they're a part of that average (and both rates were still quite high in the early 17th century). If you could make it through childhood, you had pretty decent odds at a much longer life than that.
But the 30 Years War is still insane to think about. It was entirely possible for someone to be born during the war, grow up, and fight in the exact same war their father fought in. And I'm sure plenty of people did, especially Germans.

Good solid reaction as always my friend. I was there on the left side of this concert and the emotions of sadness and swedish pride really hits you with this song, it was epic! I have seen other react to this and even though it's a song about a Swedish soldier in the 30 years war, veterans always relay to it.
In your reaction you talk about strings in music and I saw someone mention Sabatons Angel's Angel's calling ft Apocalyptica, that is also an emotional song that will jerk your heart. There is another song that is a bit easier on your heart. Try Swedish pagans live Wacken, here they play with Tina Gou who is amazing on her electric cello.

This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life.
The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it.
This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it.
The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd).
    Greetings from Denmark.

What I love about The Great War live videos is the perspective, everything is down stage, towards the crowd, like Sabaton sees it. Makes it so much better than only seeing the band.
If you want to check out 40-1 or Ghost Division, I can't recommend the live versions from Woodstock too much. There you actually have half a million or more fans singing along. Pol'and'Rock, as it is known today, is a big free festival and Sabaton might have broken everything there...
And Sabaton is very important to Polish people, they instilled a new national pride into the nation. They performed a free concert on the day, on the hour, of the start of WW2, on the actual battlefield, with a big reenactment. They got a cavalry saber from a Polish Archbishop, who got boo'd as he came on stage, then said something along the lines of "The Polish church bows to Sabaton".
They are indeed a different breed.
(Got the wrong war, was WW2, not 1)

+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man in Luke 16:24 cries: ". . .I am tormented in this FLAME."
In Matthew 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,. . ."
Revelation 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE." And please repent of all of your sins and be baptized by the Holy Spirit before it is too late, you will never know when the time will come 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at this show (Sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage)
Just before this clip started Joakim asked everyone to hold up their cellphones, since no one carries around a lighter anymore.
Needless to say, it was one hell of a show, sadly this was just before Covid started canceling shows (had tickets for around 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend)
going by facts from this show there were 10 766 people at the arena that night.

If you are into crowd interaction there is a new band to the channel that I can highly suggest:
Blind Guardian, an iconic metal band from Germany, with „The Bard‘s Song & Valhalla“ from Wacken Festival 2016. it‘s a double, that has to be seen together.
They‘ll surprise you with the first song. And afterwards the second song will surprise you again in comparison to what you‘ve had heard just before.
Btw: If you pass Wacken grounds and listen carefully, you can still hear the crowd singing. 🤘

This song for many Swedes is like then you think of Gallipoli. Happened to see your reaction to that song earlier this evening.
The 30 years war in Europé ended 1648. During these 30 years every year the Swedish army fighting in nowadays Germany was filled up with newly conscripted men sent out from Sweden to the war. We drained our country for men of fighting age for 30 years! Most of them approx. 75% died in camp of sickness, cold and starvation, not on the battlefield in a countryside devastated by warfare. No farming or harvesting posssible due to strife, pestilence raging. Millions of civilians dying also, for the same reason. But this song can also describe any war, anywere.

If they haven't been suggested yet, I'd like to suggest Aces in Exile and Far from the Fame. I'm a bit biased towards those two songs specifically since they involve my nation.
I'll also suggest Counterstrike, as I haven't seen too many people react to it. Not sure about Far from the Fame, but Piscator has good lyric videos for both Aces in Exile and Counterstrike. I know Far from the Fame has at least one lyric video, but it's quality isn't the best. Better than nothing though, and I'd love to see you react to more Sabaton.
