    Beaucerons are muscular, rugged, and large, standing as high as 27.5 inches at the shoulder, and yet graceful and in all ways balanced. Their dark black coats feature handsome squirrel-red accents, including the red feet that give the breed its French nickname Bas-Rouge (“red stockings”). They’re also seen in a black-gray-tan coat. The long head is well chiseled, and the dark brown eyes project an expression breed fanciers describe as frank and confident. They’re not for novice owners, who might end up being owned by their dominant dog instead of the other way around. That said, well-trained and socialized Beaucerons are levelheaded watchdogs and guardians, especially good with the young, the small, and the defenseless.

      Giant Schnauzers are also basically unknown phenomenol protection dogs. My last dog had was a Giant Schnauzer.
      Miss him dearly. I alsmot got a Beaceron instead of him.
      I've found its a good thing they are lesser known, look at the health issues Labs, German Shepherds , Dobes on and on have from becoming popular.
      Imho and experience AKC is part of the problem. Most breed for size and coat for showing them.
      Form follows function. I've seen "AKC champion" Labs who hate water and are the size of a dang mastiff.
      I've trained around " AKC grand sire champion" German Shepherds who had no business being on a protection field or being trained in protection. I've worked some as a decoy , where you raise your arm over their head and just that motion caused them to freak and release off the bite sleeve and bail out . It's sad. So, yeah, be glad your favorite breed isn't popular. Be glad the "gate keeper" breeders to your favorite breed make it hard for you to get one. These are things that keep a breeed safe from mass unscrupulous breeding.

    I am French and 56 years old and I currently have my fifth beauceron. I agree with you, but we can have this dog even if we are not a shepherd. Take care of it and possess a lot. The Beauceron loves above all to be with his master (with the leader of the flock). First of all, do not be alone. The master must be very patient because this dog has a very late maturity and can make a lot of mistakes before. So do not be too attached to your shoes. ;-)

    Back with a BANG I see 👌There aren’t too many things I love more than to see a dog doing the job it was bred for. I wish all dog owners would take this woman’s lead and understand that a dog with a job and an educated owner/handler is a happy, willing, balanced, and obedient member of the pack/family. I LOVE how she touched on them not making such great “pets” I have a Malinois and would never recommend anyone getting one for the sole purpose of just having a pet that you walk once a day. These working breeds are intelligent to a fault sometimes and if their owner isn’t willing or able to properly train and socialize them they will become more of a loose canon/bomb/Tasmanian devil/a giant ball of endless energy and drive/and most of all they will become ridiculously destructive because they have no way of releasing all that pent up energy and frustration. Great video as ALWAYS!!!! 🙏👏👌

    • @tayinternational
      @tayinternational 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Malinois are great "working" dogs but it is animal abuse to get a dog like that and expect it to live in an urban environment where the owner has a no need for a dog that is smarter than them

      @tasha_111_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tay nology I understand exactly what you mean, more times than not the dog will pay for “good intentions” from someone getting a working breed. But this woman seems to challenge her dog physically and mentally and that’s saying far more than 99.9% of American dog owners lol 😂

    I adopted Lobo from a shelter. Did a dna test that came back 47% Rottweiler, 22% German Shepherd, and then like 12 + other breeds. But he looks exactly like a purebred Beauceron?! I let google “look up” his breed based on a picture and it led me to the Beauceron. Perhaps Wisdom Panel DNA test does not have Beauceron in its data base. I feel I have stumbled upon an amazing breed. Lobo is a very calm, confident, intelligent boy. And amazing with children and easy to train.

But he had perfect propoctions, 6 feet on the back legs and he was in my opinion the best dog I ever had. I will probably breed them if I had a chance sometimes in my life. I would like to emphasize that this dog is NOT for everyone. They can be very unpredictable and stubborn. But if you can go through this, you will have an awsome dog. R.I.P. my dear Aik!

Dogs with same character and extra claws are the "Briard officially Berger de Brie". Everybody knows Brie cheese from that region. Plus "Picard officially Berger de Picard". Probably not best for novice owners. I have a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix and despite being a behavior specialist and experienced with intelligent and stubborn dogs, I found him the most challenging dog to train. Catahoulas have the beauceron as one of the foundation breeds and the personality and activity level are pretty similar. We have 100 acres and have time to keep our dog exercised. Is walk or short visit to a park are not enough

      @@solaydbak like Spots said, the sloped back is primarily a show ring feature from North American lines (show rings messed up a lot of breeds). If you have the funds, you can import beautifully formed GSD from Holland, Germany, Belgium, and other European countries. My household had a bitch beauceron/malinois, Julie. She was adopted by my gendarme Dad, and a not quite runt working line. That was in Ardeche, It's wild it's like the Idaho of France. She was but a puppy yet she developed a very protective instinct over my pregnant Mom, with me inside. Later on she slept under my crib and nothing moved her but her minimum natural requirements. She even had to be lock in the bathroom where she'd lunged at the walls when people visited the new baby. She was my best friend until she died at 13. I never really knew until I watch this video how lucky and privileged I have been to share the first 12 years of my life with such a devoted and watchful play companion. They truly are as someone commented: "the most understated breed". She was exactly like this video.. so much so, I am beginning to question exactly how much malinois she was. Smart like a wild animal, almost wolf like in the eye. She was a thief, a cuddler, a midnight snackers... and yes Sheryl, she was a bitch. But by the teapot was she loved!

      I am in America and have a beauceron, I left his ears natural. I think it gives him more expression. I think that in the show dog world in America it is standard to have them clipped, but I'm not sure. I just knew I wouldn't show mine so I didn't care.

      kirsten Smith it is not standard or required to have them cropped for conformation, I know in the past cropped Beaucerons have done better in the breed ring but with more people showing natural eared dogs, judges are putting both up a little bit more.

      Because freedom to choose without the government telling us what we can do with our animals. It’s preference and some choose natural while others choose cropped, we don’t frown on either choice and respect fellow owners who choose either.

    I found a stray dog which I have been trying to identify. I walk around the neighborhood 2-3 times a week and it was just there one day. It was following me back and forth so I decided to give it some food. Its extremely friendly and I was playing with it for a bit. It doesnt seem to want to follow me all the way home though but I can't blame it. There are alot of dogs in our neighborhood and they dont seem to like new blood around especially the neighbors pitbulls seem to be especially aggressive. I have been slowly trying to narrow it and the Beauceron seems to be the closest. It a grayish white with black smudges same as the one in the video but without the tan. Same size and furry tail. Does anyone know how I can identify the breed?

    Most working breeds are "Swiss Army Knife" versitile dogs that learn quickly to do jobs well. But, if you don't have a job or hours of exercise for them, you will end up with a horrid misbehaving life long pet. So just know there are penalties vs. benefits for dog intelligence and high exercise requirements.

    I think this dog is the best if you want a dog for protection slash ranching. On average mals and gsd and dutch are more protection oriented in the community and collies aussies and other ranch dogs are more ranching. This looks like a hybrid of that floppy ranching ears and looks of like an aussie.
