  • If you have visited our TH-cam before today, you’ll already know that we have reviews of the Citroen Dispatch & Vauxhall Vivaro (two of the four medium vans that platform share) so we're delighted to now be standing here with the brand-new Peugeot Expert… only one more of them to go until we get the full-house!
( To check out our latest leasing deals on the Peugeot Expert, click here: bit.ly/3PjaaJG )
Now, this van is a fleet operator’s dream, a tradesperson’s treat, and you might just find this van to be everything you need in a medium-sized commercial vehicle.
So, what say we give it the all-important Vanarama Road Test then?
Before we get started, we just wanted to take a moment to say that we hope you enjoy watching this review, and, if you do, please subscribe to our channel & click the bell to get notified when we post more content just like this.
And don’t forget that if you’re ever in the market for a new van or pickup truck, head to Vanarama.com! Now, with that done… let’s get stuck in!
Let’s start where we normally do & take the whole vehicle in… this is Peugeot’s version of the PSA Group’s medium van built on the excellent EMP2 platform, & while the back end may look familiar, the front end is markedly different.
First, there’s the Peugeot badge, the name below on top of this nice-looking black plastic grille.
The headlights are a Peugeot-only cluster & our favourite so far. The Vivaro & Dispatch share the same cluster, so it’s nice to see the Expert has a different look altogether.
The big steel wheels look great, just like the ones used on the other EMP2 platform sharers, & the whole van is a great shape that packs a lot of space into a deceptively compact profile.
So that’s the outside. Let’s get in have a look around the cabin.
Let’s be clear… this is a shared platform from the PSA Group stable… the interiors of the Dispatch, Vivaro, Proace & Expert are very similar… but it’s worth a look around the Expert to show you all the details.
Build quality is excellent & tough. The Professional trim level is Peugeot’s no-nonsense tough & durable trim level.
There’s even a hard-wearing rubber covering down here with that lovely shiny sheen.
At the PROFESSIONAL trim level, you get:
    • Cruise Control & Speed Limiter
    • Driver & Passenger Airbags
    • 1-Touch Electric Windows
    • Vauxhall Connect Security & Safety Systems
    • 2-hour coffee break alert!
    Connectivity:
    • Apple Car Play
    • Android Auto
    • Bluetooth
    • USB
Door storage is bobbins… as are the cup holders. The glove box is good though… & we like the little tray above the gear stick.
These seats have some nice storage in too, & there’s a bit of storage over your head. Like I said, it’s all no-nonsense in here.
So, before we head out on the road to give it the all-important road test, let’s get to the other place in this van you need it to be no-nonsense.
    Back door height: 1.2m
    Back door width: 1.3m
    Load length: 2.5m
    Load-through length (MODUWORK): 3.7m
    Load height: 1.4m
    Load width: 1.6m
    Load width (arches): 1.2m
    3 Euro pallets
    Side door height: 1.2m
    Side door width: 0.9m
Payload: 975kg (but the range can carry up to 1400kg)
Those dual side-sliding doors, coupled with an excellent payload mean that even in the highly competitive medium sector, this van has a few plus points over the competition.
So, how do we finish this one?
Well, the Peugeot Expert already had a good reputation even before it started being built on the PSA Group’s medium van platform.
And now it is, it’s tougher, more practical & easier to keep running than ever before. Why else would the Royal Mail have outfitted their fleets with them? Because they can handle the type of punishment only the nation’s mail company can dish out.
If that doesn’t put them on your medium van shopping list, I don’t know what will.

Professional 2.0 litre Peugeot Expert does the job. Roof height with roof rack + pipe carrier just fits under my car park 2.1m height restriction. Racked out with steel shelving. So far so good

I have one now for two years, All in all I think its a good van. It drives well very smooth, good on fuel, great lights. My only gripe is on some occasions the stop start plays up. When I am in traffic and it stops sometimes it does not restart. I think maybe its not as robust as say a ford connect or a VW transporter but its also a lot cheaper to buy. I have the 2.0L Professional plus in silver and I like the way it looks and all the toys

I have had a 2019 Expert for 6 months. It had 61000km on the clock when I bought it.
So far it has had to back to the dealer to have the fly wheel replaced, the clutch and the gear box.
The sliding doors are a very flimsy design and just today the cooling fan has started running at full speed after the engine shuts off, even when the engine didn't get a chance to warm up.
If you are from New Zealand like me and you are used to driving a Japanese van you will be disappointed with the Expert.
On the positive side, the van is very economical and nice to drive.

Tom here: The 1.6 was removed - not for being a bad engine - to standardise the engine offerings across the PSA Group medium vans. The 1.6 itself was a nice engine to drive with - good returns too.

What is the turning circle like in comparison to the Ford transit? My concern is that it is quite large compared to the Ford. Thinking of changing over to the expert. Thanks. Very informative video.

Update - ABS sensor, hill assist, major engine failure lights all at the same time. Found that the ABS sensor on rear wheels got wet. A week later the coolant pump housing cracked as it’s plastic and attached to the engine block. Again, a few weeks later the aux belt snapped, no battery charging. All in all, it spend 5 weeks in for repairs over a 2 month period. I forgot, when the water pump was replaced, they had not done it correctly and oil was mixed in with the coolant fluid, the expansion bottle resembled like a cappuccino, and a check list was in the van, with a tick for fluids checked. The brakes are still like having drums, and the steering is heavy. At one point 60% of the companies Expert vans were in for repair. Roll on getting those transits in the summer.

We have just sold ours after barely two years. These vans are absolutely awful, and borderline dangerous due to a design flaw on the brakes. If you come almost to a standstill lift off the brakes and then re apply, they slam on unpredictably. Add in poor mirrors and poor visibility and you can do better elsewhere. The 1.6 is incredibly under powered taking almost 16 seconds to reach 60mph.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Tom here: They've made real strides to address the problems of the 1.6-litre engines by not including them anymore. The engine options are now higher-powered 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre. Sorry your previous version wasn't good.

Good Engine but that's where it stops. No room in the cab .no where to put anything such as a phone or keys or loose change.no parcel shelf above your head. Very cheap. Drivers seat is not comfortable. I would much rather a transit .

    • @renwra1384
      @renwra1384 ปีที่แล้ว

You have multiple places to put keys and there's a dedicated tray for your phone. There's storage under middle seat aswell. It does have less storage than previous models but on the plus side it feels a lot more car-y to drive in my opinion.

@@ah-hl6fr I’ve been weighing up a Transit Custom Vs Expert. I’d love a transit but for the same money I’m looking at 2013 transit vs a 2017 Expert. Ford just seems SO much more expensive. If I had the money it would be the Transit but I can’t justify an extra £5k to buy a similar aged Ford.

  • @jimandali0

Worse, worse van I have ever used. Arm rest stopped working within weeks. Gearbox needed repairing before 50k. Android Auto kept failing. Cannot find ignition hole in the dark. Radio signal is absolutely shite, DAB more like WTF. Glovebox is a bugger to open. Why is the volume control sooooo far away. Steering wheel no grip and steering assistance is heavy. Wing mirrors so small and very limited view, no blind spot. Interior lights pathetic weak brightness. Keep getting oil light warning, turn ignition off/on, it goes away ????. Typical cheap french 80’s quality. Drives like a bus, no way could you WANT to drive it like a transit. Good points - Good high beam, good seats, that’s it.

So, not just me that’s got issues with fading brakes, had new ones put on, within 2 weeks no confidence in them at all. Roll on Spring and getting a Ford Transit. Spoke to colleagues and they moan about how they can’t stand their Expert either.

    • @bren3155

How does an arm rest stop working? what are you doing to it, its literally vinyl covered steel on a metal pivot point? gearbox at 50k? next to the break there is a clutch, its super handy! android auto kept failing? afraid android (your phone) or your cable is likely the problem, all the car does is replicate from the phone. volume control too far away? its on the steering wheel... where are you sitting? No grip on the steering wheel? Do you have felt oil covered hands... im confused how hard black plastic is any different to other vans? put on a leather steering wheel cover! wing mirrors so small? literally the same size as every other van...? interior light brightness too dull? this point is just stupid, they are standard automotive incandesant bulbs, change them for LED's then... oil light warning? dont just turn it off and on... PUT IN OIL! sheesh! drives like a bus? what busses you been driving because thats a bus I want to drive!
I know your comment is a year old but I truely am so so confused about every one of your borderline nonsensical points... I feel like there is something else going on here, like... you're the problem not the van maybe... very possibly... maybe your x partner was french so now you just have a huge gripe with them... just FYI Peugeot is hardly French anymore with European and American management, designers and engineers with platforms and components that are shared across many brands and vehicles... so keep your bigotry out of it.
Cheers, Some Random Australian who just wasted 15mins to troll you :)

These vans are crap full stop, poor driving position on long runs when it has a bulkhead fitted, you cannot get a good driving position

Cheap matetials inside the very cramped cab.
Poor designed door mirrors with blind spots.
