      what did you do the truck to make it reliable?

  • @stuuubbs7782
    @stuuubbs7782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    radiator problem, solved with a mishimoto radiator. Water pump, do coolant flushes once a year (ford also makes a special additive that also helps). Absolutely delete the truck 100%. Get good custom tunes and keep your foot out of it. Additives, run hotshot secret stiction eliminator and their fuel additives. Do a cold air intake that has a enclosure, dont run one that has an open filter, make sure you clean it often. All in all if you take care of your 6.4 its not as bad as everyone says it is. In my situation the guy that had it before me ran the piss out of it and didnt take care of it. Since ive owned it ive had the truck studded , deleted, custom tuned and i have kept up on my maintenance which is key with one of these trucks. I plan to do a fass system soon just to help it even more. 6.4s arent as rugged as a cummins or 7.3 but they can be reliable and a great engine

  • @joesutton3181
    @joesutton3181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    The 6.4 wasn’t really fords fault. They were bound by contract to buy engines from international/Navistar. That’s why if you look at a 6.0 or 6.4 valve cover you see the Navistar plate and not a ford plate. With the 6.7 being a true ford design they have proven that they can make a reliable diesel. The 6.4 is basically a International MaxxForce 7, witch is equally junk. Ford actually never paid Navistar for the 6.4 because of all the warranty claims they had to do on these trucks. There were some f-450’s that had 3 and 4 engines put in under warranty because they simply blew up from being used in the HD applications. International/Navistar actually has had several class action lawsuits brought against them for knowingly selling bad engines, the most notable case being the MaxxForce 13 in their medium and heavy duty trucks. They paid out 135 million dollars from that lawsuit. So, long story made short is that Navistar knew the gig was about to be up with Ford. They knew that ford was getting ready to dump them and make their own engine, so they gave them and engine that would make lots of power and sell trucks. They cut every corner that they could to try and save their share holders pockets from running dry but ended up shooting them selfs in the foot, shooting ford in the foot and the people who bought the trucks in the foot. I always tell people this. - Dodge didn’t make a good engine, Cummins did. Chevy didn’t make a good engine, Isuzu did. Ford didn’t make a junk engine, NAVISTAR did.

    So now how do you like it ? Mine is the 09 250 Cabelas edition and it’s been deleted for 25k miles without an issue, I purge the fuel filter on every 10 tank and change my oil filter and fuel filter every 6k with oil at that time ! It goes like a kids truck but ment for an old man’s driving habits ! It’s never washed a cylinder and burns around 2 quarts of oil every 6k miles ! So either I got lucky of I’m doing something right by this truck ! I don’t think I’ve ever spooled the turbos past 30lbs yet but I’m a retired OTR driver with over 4 million miles !

    I got my 2010 F-250 King Ranch 6.4L back in Sept 2019. Had 123K miles on it, paid a little over $20K. I've had to sink some money in it (mainly the front end) but this rig has been great! Living in CO with the high mountain passes, I need something with balls and this rig tows my 38ft camper trailer with ease. I also have a 20 ft. Targa boat and I don't even know it's back there. My biggest complaint is the fuel mileage. It sucks! I would love to do a delete but with emissions in my area, I can't get around that. My truck has 144K miles on it now and I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off. In this market, I can probably sell it for more than I paid. The 6.7L is way better, I get that but I've been happy so far.

    😂😂😂😢❤got one bought it in 2012 as soon as I had DPF isues it was deleted. Yes the front cover ate its self up keep high quality Diesel antifreeze and change it every 5years. Some say use only Motermaster so I do. Only have 140K on it have had Deleted it at 100K still have the down pipe with the EBP line attached no problems yet!😊I love this truck ❤. But you have checked all the boxes 😂😂😂😂. They cercle all the problems right from the manufacturer. Ya. Theres a cercle around Ford.😂😂😂. But its 2023 almost 2024. Keep changing that oil and all those filters. Oh ya get rid of that stock cold air intake filter that thing is chocking the shit out of your engine. The EGR man putting that soot back in your engine 😱is just wrong! And just don't race it she is quick but keep that tune down mine is Stock or Tow. Also lower your low presure fuel to #2. Out of 1 to 5 # 2 is great like zero coal on normal take off in stop and go traffic and I see no preformance issue but don't race this engine. She goes but you will distroy her. Pull. She will pull your house all through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Hope to be one of the 500K owners.❤

    That looks pretty dark in those turbos thought you gave that truck a early delete?😢. Can't imagine what engineer would run soot back through the intake and mix with a perfectly calibrated air fuel mix to give the best combustion possible then run that through highly machined turbos with contaminants of carbon and fuel. Fuel is not a lubricant and carbon is an abrasive like diamonds. Why don't you just spray a valve lapping compound through your turbocharger as well all that goo sticking to your vaining putting your turbos out of balance. This video is a few years old. But hay. All good. I'm running my early deleted 08/ 6.4 it's the end of 2023 she only has 140K miles. Kept the tune down Stock or tow. Tried steer setting but never had the use for that much HP😂 rain snow etc. I also tuned down the low boost fuel to#2 the tune was set at the factory at #3 out of a possible 5. Still have great performance and zero coal in stop and go trafic. Maintain timely maintenance drain the fuel water separator regularly. Got rid of that stock cold air intake filter that just choked the life out of that engine. All said improved the MPG by 1/3 still these engines are fuel hogs but a huge improvement. I don't know what happened. But my transmission showed what looked like coffee grinds in the oil
    So I just said what the hell and gave it an up grade. Would love to posietrack the rear end but for now I have spent enough fixing what the manufacturer should have. I love this truck. Next I not looking forward to will be the valve rack. I heard Bill at Bulletproof had valve covers that that sprayed more oil around the top end that was to healp that area maybe he still has a set of valve covers

    Oh never buy a 6.4. Ford is a great truck brand. They were kinda stuck with the 6.4. Thier in house 6.7 is amazing, but who wants to spend 80k on a truck. So buy a Bulletproof 6.0 or a 7.3

    Man that is my favorite Ford super duty just because they look so badass, it was also in one of my favorite games Alan wake where you could drive one around. Yeah the 6.4 is ass but so are Porsche motors 😭 doesn’t mean I don’t want one

    I'm curious what state you live in. Also, tampering with emissions is against federal law, so it's really not legal in any state. 😊

  • @townsendliving9750
    @townsendliving9750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Little bit of miss information, the 08-10 ford was one of the best ever built, the engine was one of the worse. But the truck is top notch. Also deleting is illegal in all 50 states, it's a federal crime. People dont understand the full extent of those laws, you technically cant put larger injectors in a 90s cummins, it's not federally approved. It just hasn't been enforced, yet. But I agree, these trucks wont make it with the emissions intact, regardless of how many people say they made it 200k with no issues, they are not reliable with them.

  • @EslayerTM
    @EslayerTM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you could 12 valve cummins swap that truck sorta like what westen champlin did to his and itd make it 100x more reliable lol

    Okay okay.. best powerstroke to worst; 6.4, 6.0, 7.3 and 6.7 (7.3 is the longest lasting) so Ford power strokes aren’t bad but navistar which is the company that made the 6.0 and 6.4 are shit.. that being said the 6.0 is a badass truck (after EGR delete or it’s been bulletproofed)

    As for the radiator, a lot of people have had good luck with installing front mounted hitches to make the front of the frame more rigid.

      So nice to be able to push a trailer into a tight place. Bike rack in front. Custom built plug in front vertical support, for dual overhead rack W/ spreader, for carrying long material. Plug in my 5,000 lb removable winch when I need it. Built a nice 2x2 stainless receiver for extra driving lights. I Like my extra hitch up front on Little Bubba.
      I've put one on almost all my trucks over the years. The front chrome bumper provides absolutely No structural support on our 2008 3/4 SD W/6.4 . Deleted at 60,000 miles. Runs great. Take care of the engine. It will take care of you. Almost 200,000 now. Only a handful minor issues thankfully.

    I wouldn't buy any diesel they all have problems and are too expensive to repair. If the engines don't fail the transmission will. 99% of people drive diesel trucks empty everyday.
