I agree, modern AAA games are a garbage fire, but Valve actually cares about their IP's, its part of the reason they haven't been releasing any new mainline games. They are afraid they wont meet expectations. HL:A was a good game though, so I still have faith in Valves ability.
Especially because what set Half Life apart was innovation. There's.. really not much left in the FPS space they could possibly innovate on. Almost every aspect of FPS games has been tuned to a science since the days of Half Life 2. Graphics, physics, maneuverability, gunplay, multiplayer, story, there's just really nothing that hasn't reached a hard limit of innovation. No game has done all of those things at once, but that's a crazy tall order to do that, and still doesn't qualify as innovative. The only reason Alyx worked is because there was still lots of room in the VR shooter space for innovation. Still is, but a hell of a lot less than when Alyx released, and it doesn't sound like this will be a VR title anyway. So really, I just don't see a reason for it to exist anymore. It's not old enough to nostalgia farm, yet too old to still have mass appeal. Its story wasn't captivating enough to demand continuation.
Yeah it's pretty annoying how they hold onto it. At the very least they could put out more games utilizing it, instead we've been sitting on Shadow of War for years now and absolutely nothing from WB when there's so much they could add to it if they cared
@@SP-qi8ur They patented their Nemesis system (procedurally generated enemy factions with particular members remembering their observations with the player ( and those interactions, as well as interactions between other members of their group, agreed their position on the faction) ) So no-one can try adding something similar without paying WB for a license, or risk being sued for patent infringement. Which means we most likely won't get anything similar in about 25 years, of I'm not mistaken. Or someone could try to appeal that it's not actually innovative and someone reasonably skilled in programming could have come up with that...

I'm with you on Order 1886. It might have been short not not particularly inmovative on the shooting gameplay, but it was a rock solid unique and cinematic experience. Left me wanting more.
I hope WB Games lets another studio get access to the LoTR franchise. I want another great game in that universe. I was a,ways hoping for a sequel to The Order:1886 as well, it was the very first collectors edition I ever bought. Statue still sits on my shelf.

Maybe even a regular anti-citizen, a regular CP who climbs the ranks until he's brainwashed and augmented into a full OTA. I know modders have given some of this but to see it done by Valve would be awesome. I'm a big fan of the lore and world of Half-Life and feel like they could do a lot with this!

I read two articles about Half Life 3 that I definitely agree with. Firstly, they said it doesn't have to do anything crazy and revolutionary (which I have a feeling it would cause Valve always makes games that lead the gaming space), it just needs a good story and great gameplay to be a great game. Secondly - Thinking about maybe this game concluding the Half Life story. As much as I would love a Half Life 4 (if HL3 is even a thing), the time that is put into this franchise, it might be satisfying for 3 to be the sendoff to the franchise. And even if they did conclude it, it obviously doesn't mean they couldn't make more games in the universe.
PSA!!!!! If you don't like or own VR to play HL Alyx, there is a mod available(and a good one) called HL Alyx NoVR. The devs essentially turned the game into a normal mouse and kb title. Please play it. The mod is free and you don't need VR.
And it will be a crap experience because all the events that happen in a VR environment will look weird on a flatscreen, and it just won't work like a traditional flatscreen fps. Either get a VR headset, and play this as it was intended, or move on with your life, and play something else.

For the record I agree that it should be played natively but some people can't drop the cash on a vr set for 1 or 2 games at most. Ive done the comparison on quest 3 vs the mod and the mod was maybe 2% less fun than Quest 3 due to the lower interactive amount naturally. But for those who cant afford to drop console money on a piece of hardware they might hate, or those who cant deal with the the VR motion sickness effect, the mod is a perfect way to experience the game. I feel like Earthworm Jim deserves his time again. The Megadrive (Genisis) game was so cool. But now a First person, action adventure. Different suits depending on what you need to complete. At this point, I say screw HL3. Valve promised a faster episodically released game and lied to everyone. Then left the fans hanging on for decades, without so much of a word. The disrespect is too much.
So HL3... After playing 2, episodes 1 and 2, and following the story for a bit now, honestly, I just would like a nice clear resolution to the story, no more sequel baits, no more open ends. Just a good ending for Half life would be enough I think.

Why waste money on a monitor when you can get an LG C series UHDTV that's equal to or better than those monitors. My C1 49" TV is the best monitor I've ever owned.
One problem for me is my desk being 25" wide and i like having multiple monitors. I'd rather use my oled for just gaming to reduce the chance of burn in and the other panels on browsing and stuff. The oled monitors are definitely coming a long way and are getting cheaper
@davey5361 Yup. I've had mine for 3 years with zero burn in, using it daily. I doubt it's an actual problem unless it's on 24 hrs a day every day for years. A person really has to abuse it for it to get burn in.
Probably because the monitor doesn't sell your data by default. LG TVs sell your data, and the option to turn it off is hidden 32 menus deep. Will never buy from a company with scummy business practices.
Half leaf 3 is a myth. We have a better chance of the epstein files being released before that game is even confirmed to be in the works. But there is always hope.
Knowing how Valve takes their time, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 2029 release. It’ll be 25 years since HL 2 and HL 3 could be a showcase of a true next gen gaming experience

Ready at Dawn closure definitely hurts. Daxter was the first game I ever played on my own device and I would replay it again and again until my psp eventually broke, I replayed it recently on my ps5 and still adore the game so much. We don't really see games like that anymore but it's still a kick in the knee hearing that the studio who crafted a giant piece of my childhood is gone. I will always be thankful to the studio and I wish the team the best of luck in moving on to new work

Honestly, I know it’s a bit of a sacrilege but original HL didn’t do a whole lot for me. I ran into the elevator bug where you got stuck at top of elevator ride and that annoyed me to no end. It was OK, but just didn’t think it was life altering as many did. But HL2 was simply amazing. It would have been incredible without the gravity gun, but that just took it to a whole other stratosphere.

But the pricing and ease of use on top of the small amount of games on it definitely make it come off as one. Eventually it'll get a lot better but who knows how long. I discovered gaming with my dad at 9 playing Half Life with him. Last game we played together before he died was Half Life 2. Don't give me false hope, I'm waiting Half Life 3 for so long. As much for Gabe as it's symbolic.
Controversial, but as a massive HL fan, I wouldn't mind a HL reboot with the original storyline but updated with todays graphics, atmospherics, sound design, ui and level design.
This is not Half Life 3, this is a rumour and it could be anything. We have had many spin-offs like Portal, Desk Job, Alyx, etc. This could be an animation or a promotional thing. This could be the rtx remix project or it could be related to support for a fan project. It could be another VR thing. There is no sense getting wound up over this, Valve has already had so many projects that they have shitcanned.
I hope it's not a VR game. That market is quite niche as it is, but I hope it's a single-player story-driven game like 1 and 2. I think it may be a buddy-style game with Vance with you helping you out as we navigate the twisted hazards of the Borealis and it's experimental cargo to finish the Combine and save Aleyx.
Planet Coaster 2 was announced with gameplay as well. Also, Dead by Daylight is killing it. Not only did they announce castlevania but next summer Five nights at Freddy’s will be finally coming to DBD!
Closing Ready At Dawn and not making anymore Lone Echo games is a big mistake. Literally the only reason Ive stayed with Oculus/Quest headsets. Asgard's Wrath 2 was good but Lone Echo was more up my alley and more fun and the better graphics were worth being wired to a PC.

HL & HL2 both changed their genres forever so I've always believed Valve would only release HL3 if it's the same calibre. If HL3 is coming then it is going to be something special so let's hope!!
I just hope they don't force VR for Half Life 3, I wanted to get into VR since like 2013 but after I tried it, and liked it, I got to use it enough times at a friend's place I realized that I wouldn't play for more than half hour at best on a story game. I like the immersion though, for sure.

After playing 2, episodes 1 and 2, and following the story for a bit now, honestly, I just would like a nice clear resolution to the story, no more sequel baits, no more open ends. Just a good ending for Half life would be enough I think.

Why waste money on a monitor when you can get an LG C series UHDTV that's equal to or better than those monitors. My C1 49" TV is the best monitor I've ever owned.
One problem for me is my desk being 25" wide and i like having multiple monitors. I'd rather use my oled for just gaming to reduce the chance of burn in and the other panels on browsing and stuff. The oled monitors are definitely coming a long way and are getting cheaper
@davey5361 Yup. I've had mine for 3 years with zero burn in, using it daily. I doubt it's an actual problem unless it's on 24 hrs a day every day for years. A person really has to abuse it for it to get burn in.

Probably because the monitor doesn't sell your data by default. LG TVs sell your data, and the option to turn it off is hidden 32 menus deep. Will never buy from a company with scummy business practices.

Ready at Dawn closure definitely hurts. Daxter was the first game I ever played on my own device and I would replay it again and again until my psp eventually broke, I replayed it recently on my ps5 and still adore the game so much. We don't really see games like that anymore but it's still a kick in the knee hearing that the studio who crafted a giant piece of my childhood is gone. I will always be thankful to the studio and I wish the team the best of luck in moving on to new work

Honestly, I know it’s a bit of a sacrilege but original HL didn’t do a whole lot for me. I ran into the elevator bug where you got stuck at top of elevator ride and that annoyed me to no end. It was OK, but just didn’t think it was life altering as many did.
But HL2 was simply amazing. It would have been incredible without the gravity gun, but that just took it to a whole other stratosphere.

But the pricing and ease of use on top of the small amount of games on it definitely make it come off as one. Eventually it'll get a lot better but who knows how long. Also btw if hlx actually is a new half life a lot of the coding makes it come off as a traditional half life game

This is not Half Life 3, this is a rumour and it could be anything. We have had many spin-offs like Portal, Desk Job, Alyx, etc. This could be an animation or a promotional thing. This could be the rtx remix project or it could be related to support for a fan project. It could be another VR thing. There is no sense getting wound up over this, Valve has already had so many projects that they have shitcanned.
It would be cool if that High on Life show just explores the world.
I hope it's not a VR game. That market is quite niche as it is, but I hope it's a single-player story-driven game like 1 and 2. I think it may be a buddy-style game with Vance with you helping you out as we navigate the twisted hazards of the Borealis and it's experimental cargo to finish the Combine and save Aleyx.
HALF LIFE 3 at this point in my opinion wont be a third game, but instead a retelling of the original 2 with an actual ending instead of a cliffhanger

Closing Ready At Dawn and not making anymore Lone Echo games is a big mistake. Literally the only reason Ive stayed with Oculus/Quest headsets. Asgard's Wrath 2 was good but Lone Echo was more up my alley and more fun and the better graphics were worth being wired to a PC.
