One of the worst things about American binders in when you drop them, the rings open completely and dump out your paper across the floor. I've found that Kokuyo binders have a much more robust positive locking mechanism that is non-reversible, even when unlocked so force on the rings from a thick stack of paper will never open them.
I actually disagree here, my kokuyo smart binder fell on the ground and literally fell apart spreading around all my papers and the hard plastic covers. 😅 it was akward since I couldn't reassemble it in the middle of class
I honestly hope I am not the only one who drools when a new Jet Pens video pops up! As an office supply addict I admit to buying multiple planners and such because one item has a feature that another does not but I’m not finding that with the Japanese products. Many offer flexible options where I could literally build my own and be happy with one and declutter my backpack. I love the soft muted colors and slim design of the products.
I remember throughout my school life just simply not liking certain stationary or just putting up with others because they always broke in some way or another, no matter how well you take care of them even if they were cheap, or they were simply inconsistent like paper from the same brand. Turns out the best stationary I got and still have to this day were Japanese made lol Think the one thing I liked binder-wise from the US were those trapper-keepers. Hard to find them these days... well, any that are actually good.
I am addicted to a5 binders; I use them for refillable sketchbooks, note taking, my openface desk customized planner at my job, you name it. My sneaky trick is using the Kokuyo Campus Smart ring and 2 x 2 a5 binders as editable and rearrangeable instruction manuals in progress or trackers for projects. Just big enough and easy enough to switch pages in and out. Add a 20hole compatible hole punch, and I can add printouts or other flat materials relevant to the task. If I need to hand it off to a coworker to work out of, i know the pages won't fall out (and the mechanism is just clever enough to prevent strangers from rearranging or removing materials). Jetpens in the office for the win!
I have the Maruman Kurufit and the Kokuyo 2x2 at work, and one 2x2 at home (I won that one from a Jet Pens giveaway and just had to get one for work). I love trying a bunch of different kinds of paper in each of them.
I am an online grad student, and have perfected a nice little system of Kurufit binders, Maruman grid loose leaf, and lots of color coding accessories like stickie tabs and dividers. All from Jetpens!
Recently I bought myself Kokuyo Campus 2x2 and I'm impressed by how thin it is! Not only portable, but it's also nice to write in. I wish I discovered this thing much earlier lol.
I love me some Japanese stationary, and in many, many ways it is higher than quality than its American counterpart, but one thing I do like about American stationary is the size. Those two and three inch binders can fit a lot of stuff. I’m a dungeon master so there’s a lot of things I want to keep with me, but I find I have to sacrifice one thing or another with my Japanese binder that I wouldn’t have to with an American one. That being said, I like the Japanese binder better, so it will stay in rotation, I’m just saying I wish it could hold more stuff.
I just wish Japanese binders, or at least the ones you guys have for sale on your site, had room for more paper, like 100 sheets. Then I would get one to use as my binder for D&D, because I take *a lot* of notes when I play
As a student, I have a similar problem. So when I was choosing a binder, I settled on the Maruman Session binder (which you can buy on JetPens’ website) since it is one the few that can hold around 120 sheets. I’ve been using a few of these binders for an entire semester now, and though they do have flaws, I would still totally recommend them!
Our 100+ sheet capacity binders (excluding the Kokuyo NOViTA Alpha) can be found here www.jetpens.com/Binders/ct/1653?&f=5b81f01415c6f4f5cbbed433ede10b74!
@@JetPens Thank you! Sadly for me, I can use in excess of 200 pages. Just too much for these beauties. And they and their paper are glorious. Note, I am the exception to the rule among most modern writers - I keep my novel 'bible' on paper. Because of sheer bulk, most novelists use computer systems.
I love Japanese stationery! I've used a Kokuyo binder in my Japanese class. When I used ring binders with metal rings, I cut the holes so that I can rearrange the pages like I would in a disc planner. This works reasonably well in an A5 or B6 6-ring binder especially when I don't need to keep notes long-term.
I love my Japanese binder and campus paper. I use them for session notes since I am a therapist. It is easy to file and I don't have to rip off the holes from my notebooks anymore! They are also easy to scan if needed.
Kokyu campus binders and notebook binders are game changing. allows me to organize my notes in the event i have to re do any messy notes when that one teacher speaks at 2x speed lol
when I was in middle school, I had a beat-up old binder that was REALLY hard to open/close. I caught the heel of my palm in one of the rings and within seconds I had an enormous blood blister that didn't go down for two weeks. my Kokuyo binder meanwhile is so gentle but secure that I used to fidget with it in class before I got permission to bring my clickies.
Would love to switch to Japanese binders for a highschooler, the Kokuyo Campus that I tried is lovely. However, with the recommended supply lists the teachers generally require specific items. Any chance you could showcase these supplies with American school kids in mind to convince teachers to switch (or at least push demand toward better design in American products?) If they aren't on a laptop-they still need standard college rule notebook paper, and most ask for the giant binders to keep the entire semester/year on hand. Wish I could see how the Japanese system would work with American requirements.
I am really glad that Kokuyo made American binder compatible paper, because while Japanese binders are really awesome, they aren't very compatible with American letter sized print outs. So I'm glad I can use great paper while keeping my assigned print outs in the same binder.
You should compare the variety of Japanese Notebooks / Folders / Binders against the entirety of Mead 5-Star product line. If you're going to compare, it's best to compare against one of the best known brands in US Stationary Products IMO.
Look at this slander against American school supplies. And as an Asian American, I’m totally here for it 😂😂😂 I really wish I had these, even if it was just for college UGH clearly I was born in the wrong gen pfftt Wait hold up. Is it called tefrenu as in 手触れない cause your hand won’t touch the rings omG
This is what I used in the early 90s, but in Thailand. I had no idea they weren't available in the U S until I came here for college in the late 90s and was sooo mad I had to use inferior 3 ring binders again!
Actually my favorite thing for carrying paper was a file folder (with regular paper folders inside) that I used in elementary school. I believe we called it our 'docket'. It's still used today by my siblings to hold D&D character sheets. I've never tried a nice binder, but at this point in my life I'm not a particular fan of them.
The Trapper Keepers I had in the 80s had that same sliding lock on the rings that one of the binders in the video had. When I saw a new Trapper Keeper last fall, it had the same horrible metal rings as every other binder on the planet.
i need a japanese binder so badly, ive been stuck with the same amazon binder for half of the school year and it is HORRIBLE, its a pain to open the rings and to store and loose papers? the dividers just suck, and its so bulky and big that i cant even use it to write in, i have to physically take loose papers out and put them back which is time consuming especially for the short classes i have and little time to pack up
They don’t make large binders which is discouraging. The system and paper is excellent but you have to sacrifice size for preference. If you go to Staples you can buy large, flexible three ring binders ranging from 1-1/2 to 5 inches which can fit hundreds of sheets. The downside is they are for standard letter size. So if your in college with demanding courses, sometimes these Japanese binders that only hold 50 to 100 sheets just aren’t going to cut it. So you end up with 2 to 3 of these small binders just for one class. They’re nice, they look great, there comfortable and compact, but they just don’t hold enough sheets. If you want to catalog personal printouts, handwritten notes, class handouts and laminates all in one notebook, these are not going to work for you. They will technically but be prepared to own several just for one class. If JetPens or anyone else could offer a solution I think myself and many others would be thrilled. What we want is the binder displayed at 0:30 that can hold a4 paper. The Kokuyo Novita is not a solution.
@JetPens Are there papers you sell that can be used in a printer? I want to switch over the Japanese binders, but i often use binders to store and organize articles, syllabi, and other such printables (e.g. not just for taking notes).
Hi there! Our team has been able to use Kokuyo Campus Sarasara Loose Leaf Paper in printers - www.jetpens.com/Kokuyo-Campus-Loose-Leaf-Paper-Sarasara/ct/6297?&f=258791bb6c8bd57e
I have become a Jet Pens super fan! I would love a video series for "What's new this week at Jet Pens." Also, will Jet Pens be at the 2025 Washington D.C. Fountain Pen Supershow???
I like these binders, however, is there preholed paper for printing, that works with these binders. The American ones give one the opportunity to use a 3 ring hole puncher so one can insert their printed paper…
School supply section of us is gross now. Nothing but slimy slippery plastic garbage. Some high quality plastic can be okay, esp back when pressboard products were available and used together.
Have you tried a Japanese binder before? Let us know in the comments!
I want to but as an American student how would you use these in high school since letter size is bigger than b5 and the hole punch size is different?
The only ones I use!
I’m using a Japanese binder notebook for college. It’s become easier to organize my notes by the material and subject!
One of the worst things about American binders in when you drop them, the rings open completely and dump out your paper across the floor. I've found that Kokuyo binders have a much more robust positive locking mechanism that is non-reversible, even when unlocked so force on the rings from a thick stack of paper will never open them.
I noticed that with those hard plastic pencil boxes.
Ong yess 😭 my American binders always open in my backpack

I seriously wish I knew about these when I was in college... it would have changed my life!

Japanese ingenuity for most things is on another level.
I just wish Japanese binders, or at least the ones you guys have for sale on your site, had room for more paper, like 100 sheets. Then I would get one to use as my binder for D&D, because I take *a lot* of notes when I play

I am a convert after getting the Kokuyo B5 26-ring binder. So easy to open and close!
I MUST HAVE those mini binders!!! Omg so cute!
when I was in middle school, I had a beat-up old binder that was REALLY hard to open/close. I caught the heel of my palm in one of the rings and within seconds I had an enormous blood blister that didn't go down for two weeks.

I literally just received my order from you today and then you put out this gem? sigh... looks like I need to place another order. 😆
I like the one that can be used by left handed!
Would love to switch to Japanese binders for a highschooler, the Kokuyo Campus that I tried is lovely. However, with the recommended supply lists the teachers generally require specific items. I have five of the B5 Kokuyo Campus binders and love them. Now I suddenly want a mini-binder....
I'm neither Japanese nor a student, and I want almost ALL of these 😂
I use Muji’s binder notebook
I am really glad that Kokuyo made American binder compatible paper, because while Japanese binders are really awesome, they aren't very compatible with American letter sized print outs. So I'm glad I can use great paper while keeping my assigned print outs in the same binder.
HOnestly, the Japaneseare just so very innovative!!! Thank goodness for JetPens as showing us these wonderful stationery products.
i use lamy fountain pens *alot*
and american paper is too thin
thank you for sowing me that kokuyo campus binder paper exists 🙏🙏🙏

Yes, that's exactly why it's called that! :)
This is what I used in the early 90s, but in Thailand. I had no idea they weren't available in the U S until I came here for college in the late 90s and was sooo mad I had to use inferior 3 ring binders again!

So, which binders can American students actually afford to buy? A 2" ring binder or a state of the art imported Japanese one?
Is there a universal binder that works for and can adjust for all kind of paper holes.
I like these binders, however, is there preholed paper for printing, that works with these binders. The American ones give one the opportunity to use a 3 ring hole puncher so one can insert their printed paper…
😮
Guess tariffs are going to make Japanese stationery in America much more expensive soon.😊
School supply section of us is gross now. Nothing but slimy slippery plastic garbage. Some high quality plastic can be okay, esp back when pressboard products were available and used together.
Can you send any packages to Iran
I do not use binder right now in my school im right now grade 6
Guys. Help. Anyone knows the difference between the Pilot Juice pens and the Pilot Pop Lol? 😅
My trapper Keeper lasted mere weeks. And I didn’t study.
Hi my name is Ayla
❤
👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
When there is a Japanese that has flamingos in sunglasses driving a Corvette then they can claim to be better than US binders.
Plast wil not hold up any better. Dropped the contents will come out
yay im first
btw i agree ameriacan binders suck
Lisa Frank would like to argue.
Shame about all the plastic!
