I love seeing more guys who crochet, knit and sew! I’m into all those and many more crafts and it’s nice to see inspiration for things I’d actually wanna make. The thrift flip turned out awesome, mistakes and all! :)
It looks so cool! Personally, I would've tried to make the collar a 70's dagger collar because the color scheme of the shirt is reminiscent of the 70s color palette.
Looks like you have used straight stitches while sewing. I would recommend zigzag stitch or the usage of a twin needle for elastic fabric. Straight stitches can lead to ripping seams in elastic fabric, because the fabric can stretch and the seam can not. And to prevent stretching at the shoulders take an unelastic ribbon put it under the seam and sew it together with the fabric. It stabilises the seam.
I’m so happy you didn’t just use it for the yarn. I really like the stripes and the colors and you turned it into something so cool! Yes, would love more thrift flips! 👏❤️
I’d wear that shirt. I like the creativity of thrift flips. Adding your personality to the clothes. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to sew, just a conventional way and whatever works for your brain. You used your brain to problem solve and the shirt came out lovely.
7:27 yes I love this kinda content! I have decided to only wear clothes that I find at thrift stores or clothes I make myself from scratch or with crochet, so content like this helps me get ideas ♥
Love this up cycle! The yarn you added tied it in so well! You could also try a zig zag stitch on seams you want to have some stretch. It’s also a good option to zig zag the seam allowance if you don’t have an overlocker/serger. If the fabric is super floppy too you could do a basting stitch to hold the shape before sewing and then take it out after you sew. Hope that makes sense 😊 But honestly the result was amazing and so impressive.
so cool that you saw inspiration in the original cardigan! I sometimes struggle to see what something "could" be if I put work into it to turn it into something else
Hi Romi. Love the shirt!! You are beyond talented and gifted!! You are truly inspiring. Looking forward to your next episode of fantabulousness! Until next time, many blessings! 💜🤗💜
Great choices with the collar, looks great! I love this flip, so inspiring! U have a true gift, I just love your video’s, even the bits where u head off to work… I don’t know why that works but it does! It makes me smile! Thanks for that!
A great combination of techniques used on that project. Changing the direction of the sleeve stripes made a big difference visually and the crocheted sections came out extremely well. Wonderfully creative work as always Romi.
I think with smaller hooks (like 3.0>) the way you hold the hook itself can cause bending so maybe try holding it differently when you use smaller hooks. Love your work and vids btw ❤️
Great job! Thanks for sharing! I agree that you should use crochet hooks with a handle. Makes a big difference so your hands don't end up hurting. I recommend the Tulip Etimo crochet hooks! Looking forward to your next video!
Looks fabulous! I would have gone to JoAnn Fabrics and get a similar color solid fabric for the back of the shirt, and this would have left plenty for the front and sleeves. Also, I would have tea or coffee dyed the buttons (it's not too late)😊. Otherwise, 👍!
This was great! Not too big a project where I would think I couldn’t do it but not so simple that it’s boring. I am a very new sewer as well as new crocheter so this kind of video is very helpful. You explaining why you do things really helps me build up some logic of my own! Your cat is beautiful too. I love her little bow so much ☺️Anyway, looking forward to the next video!
Hey, new here and also new crotcheter. Found your channel and I love it. This type of video was cool to watch, thrifting and re-making, even unravel thrifts would be interesting concept. Keep up the good work!
pooj sniffing the mic is my favourite thing shes such a goodlooking hard worker aaa 🥺but omg this was so fun and the shirt is so pretty!! so yes would love thrift flip and food and knitting and sewing vids ANYTHING TBH!!! ur quickly turning into my new fav channel♥♥
Romi! Your work has been so amazing! I’ve enjoyed every single video of yours and I’m so happy to have come across your channel 🙂 thank you for sharing your art and a little glimpse into world.
I love it! You did such a good job and it looks great on you!! The one and only suggestion is, when possible, try to cut the front and back panels so the stripes line up at the shoulder. You just barely had enough fabric, so it probably wouldn’t have been possible with this project. Love you and love your videos!
Great flip. I agree that your sleeve hems would look good in a brown/beige. Also I would try a double needle. This would make a stretch stitch and the stitches would be properly horizontal, and double needles are inexpensive, and take up next to no space if you are short on space (like me).
Dang, I want to do this now! I used to work at Wrangler many years ago making jeans. I can use a sewing machine, but never thought to do something like this. Amazing! Thanks for the ideas.
String ....thread !🤣🤣🤣 You did an amazing job, good work. I work as an apparel patternmaker and I'm always impressed when I see someone make a paper pattern as you did from your good fitting reference shirt, it's a handy guide to have ready. And sleeve caps usually don't match front to back especially on woven fabric type garments to allow for the arm to move forward at the shoulder which was why one side was bigger than the other when you traced out your sleeve but no biggie you made it work (knit stretch fabrics are more accomodating). For the collar you might could have added a few extra stitches at the center back to help give a slight curve shape to an otherwise straight edge for the collar to set on the neck a bit better when worn but your finished piece looked great nonetheless 😊
Hello Romi! Ive been loving your hands on tutorial videos! They're so much fun to watch! Your energy is like fresh air and im feeling inspired because I LOVE that YOU MAKE YOUR OWN CLOTHES!! Yayy!! I'm looking forward to the next one! 🤍🎉🪡 What would I have done differently? Nothing, it's completely perfect! The only change would be: I always count my stitches 😂💯
You did a terrific job! I just wanted to interject something: my largest steel hook is 1.9mm, and I find they don't bend (I can't say the same about my aluminum hooks). I've been crocheting for nearly 40 years, and I've never used a hook with an ergonomic handle (I've already convinced myself that it won't feel right to me). Also, the traditional placement of the buttonhole band means nothing anymore; I was at first surprised that yours was on the right, but given the day and age, why not? I always thought it was a stupid rule, to be honest. Thank you for the video!
@@Showmeromi Again, it's not that there's anything wrong (or even significant) about the buttonhole band, it's just that I've been doing this for so long, my attention to detail can go through the roof sometimes. I hope I didn't cause you any undue stress.
The word you're looking for for that gap filler is a button placket, or just a placket - we all know it's got buttons and button holes on it, and we know what it's for... anything closing an opening with buttons and holes on it is a placket. That's a fantastic shirt! And lots of Pooch appearances, which is super important.
Hahaha. It's Pooj! Anytime I see her nearby I pull out the camera :)

@@Showmeromi you could use your index finger instead of your thumb to hold the yarn on the hook which might help, thats just a suggestion though

good pattern, good sewing, great crotcheting. As you said i would have gone cream thread and either vintage or wooden buttons. Ä, but very 😎.

Cool! New word for me. Yeah I didn't have an inch to budge but thankfully they were close to aligned in pattern
so 2mm qualifies as microcrochet? Haven't realized I've been doing so much micro recently!
I actually think 2mm is the cutoff, so some say yes, other's say it has to be under 2mm!
