I use recycled shopping bags to make “yarn”. Free resources, keeps them out of the landfill. Small tote will hold 5 full 2 liter bottles with no stretching. Perfect for beach, garden or lake. Waterproof, washable, and will last forever!
That's a great idea! I'm happy at least knowing that the raffia is made of renewable biodegradable materials. I would totally be down to make plastic bag yarn. I have a huge collection of them
I'm always so happy when you have a new video! Your projects are always so intriguing and you just got such a vibe, I love it. I love how the bag turned out. Way to go!!!
I love this! Such beach vibes! I love the shape that you ended up with. Your mom is a lucky lady to have you as a son. I put lazy daisies on everything, its my favorite stitch!
Omg this is the absolute most awesome tutorial i have seen for so long. I was so curious about rafia yarn and now that i watched i have a better idea. Thank you. I would love to be able to watch more of your tutorial videos. To be honest i need a mans point of view with gifts for other men and so that is what caught my eye with your videos. Now im stuck. Please dont stop tutorials on you tube. I feel like so many start but end up moving on to other platforms. I love my you tube. I watch it every day after work while i crochet. Been crocheting for almost 1.5 years now (i stopped smoking 2.5 yrs ago when i started workimg for frederick county workimg with adults w developmental and intellectual disabilities. I needed something to help me because no longer had my camel cigs. Crochet it was and now im hooked. Again i love your tutorials. Your kind and your voice is so easy to listen to and you have interesting projects i love the mothers day bag for real. Cant wait to get rafia. Im usually a cotton or mixed fiber lover for my crochet but i am desperately wanting my own sweater but i have ADD and finishing anything with same stitch row after row is so hard and so i start new one. Right now i am making my friend and co worker a pride scarf. I made him a few beanies and he loves them. He is retiring after 30 yrs so im rushing to finish my boring moss stitch scarf w wool but i love bob so i have to get this done by may 30th. Anyway....keep tutorialing on here i love the videos and your work is awesome. Thank you for your time in putting these on here
Thank you! Imm missing my mens shirts videos so im drfinitely going back to that very soon. I love youtube and plan to be here primarily. I totally recommend you use hobbi's or woll and the gang's raffia!
Hey Romi! Beautiful bag! I know your Mom will treasure it always. I've made bags out of jute, twine, etc. They also make awesome baskets, rugs anything rustic. Going to give raffia a try. Cant wait to see what you create next. Until then, many blessings. 💜🤗💜
@Showmeromi I've never had a problem with jute and/or twine. They have some that are rope-like and some that are smooth. I've even found some at a hardware store and snatched them all up! If I come across rough yarn, etc., I'll use some lotion before I knit/crochet. Hope this helps. Many Blessings.
I hate to be the “Debby Downer” of this thread, but did you check the raffia for colorfastness & strength when wet? I had a backpack once when I was a kid that was made of some red plastic or polyester material. I was so proud of that pack, until it got wet; that made the color run, and later in the school year I was fined because my textbooks were stained. Also I used to work with an artificial raffia called “Wrapphia” or something similar. It was made of a very translucent plastic material: Very easy to crochet with but it didn’t hold up to water well: it just dissolved. Many of these ribbon-like materials aren’t meant for anything but wrapping presents. It’s not yet Mother’s Day as I write this. If you’re still reading posts on this video, please give us an update on its performance. You don’t need to do an update on weather or not she liked it - I’m sure she’ll ❤LOVE❤ it!
Yes, it's tested, and i specifically picked out raffia labelled as water resistant. It does have a warning that colors can leech but i tested some strands and they didn't really leech that much. I'll ask her to update if she has issues
I LOVE this idea! You mean I can crochet with stuff other than yarn?? What is raffia and how can I find it?! I need a beach bag! It looks amazing! Sorry, im excited😁
I wonder if the dyes soften the raffia a bit, whereas the more natural colors are less treated, and that's why the colors are softer and easier to work with? The bag came out beautifully! I bet you could make a straw hat sort of thing with the same material, if you wanted to.
I think the bleach in the first one cost it its integrity. The natural one i used as the base was way too cheap for raffia so it likely wasnt actual raffia. That would explain why it was so tough. Thank you! This yarn is primarily used for hats i think
What other types of yarn materials have you used or would like to for sturdy bags or baskets? I see people talk about tshirt but cant seem 5o get my hands on it. Rafia is awesome but looks painful but what else would you consider trying for sturdy types of projects
Romi - okay bear with me on this for a second OK…? Your channel name is show me the Romi. I’m sure there’s an inside there, but I don’t get it and maybe I’m alone in that or perhaps there are many that don’t know the inside joke. But but but but…..I keep thinking that “Romi, wherefore art thou?” Would just be sooooo cute 🥰 OK, carry-on… Thank you for letting me interrupt !!! I’ll go back to watching you make the cool for your mama ❤
Oh, it's because you misread it hahaha. it's show me, Romi! as in, people watching want me to show them what im doing or how I do it so they scream "Show me, Romi!" It's also because a lot of people say my name as rahmi, so I add the me so people know to pronounce it like that. I appreciate the suggestion!
You realize you're going to have to make a bag for Pooj (Pooge? Poodge? How do you spell his name?), he just took to the bag, and I bet it was difficult to get him out of it. His birthday must be coming up, make him a bag!

Yes: there are several tutorials on TH-cam that explain how to cut the bags to get the most material out of them 👍
The most amazing thing about this post isn't that you made a beautiful beach bag for your mother but that you ate one of those "brownies"....
Hahaha ! I'd much rather eat chocokate hummus than have those again
TY FOR THE STARFISH PATTERN!! 😮❤ You inspired me to make one for my mother just today.. Also to say, you’re so satisfying to watch 🙈
Ty! Hope she likes it :)
I'm always so happy when you have a new video! Your projects are always so intriguing and you just got such a vibe, I love it. I love how the bag turned out. Way to go!!!
That's sweet thank you!
Your creativity and skill is enviable! Hand made gifts are the best - I'm sure your Mom will love and cherish this Mother's Day gift.
Ooo it turned out awesome, I’m sure your mom will love it! And what interesting yarn!!
I love this! Such beach vibes! I love the shape that you ended up with. Your mom is a lucky lady to have you as a son. I put lazy daisies on everything, its my favorite stitch!
Thank you, I’m loving the lazy daisy technique :)
Throw on a few sparkly things and it will be perfect!!!!!!! Beautiful job, Romi!!!
Oh the process!! Thank you for showing us, Romi. Your Mom will love it!!
I think she will!
For sure!! 🥰
The starfish are so great! What a nice gift.
Thank you!
The brownies certainly looked...interesting hahaha

it turned out so cute!!!
Thank you!!
Great video. Your design turned out beautiful. Looks like a painful yarn to work with. Commendable!
It was, but my mom loved it. Thank you!
ooo i'm so happy to se an upload from you again! this bag is such a nice idea, i hadn't considered using raffia for a bag but that's so smart.
Yeah, it's great! And a single skein makes sooo much material
Really nice and so special! Your Mom will love it. ❤ Love you and love your videos.
Thank you for the love :)
This is cute and perfect for the beach

I want to try jute sometime! Is it rough on your hands? Good raffia is very gentle. Take care!

Looks so good!
I have crochet shoes made of raffia. Burned my skin off the first few times I wore it but I love the material 😂
Hahaha those sounds so uncomfortable! But probably very cool shoes
I'm Finnish and I know Tappara fans would love this. Also I love your designs
Ty👍🏼

Hahaha. Get some! Rararaffia or hobbi raffia is great
@@Showmeromiyou're awesome, I love your videos ❤
Hi! Lovely bag! Good for yr mom! Btw what is the app you use in the pad?
Thanks. Procreate:)

I think that yes, the dyes soften the raffia… I used natural colour and blue from the same brand and quality, and it was way easier with the blue one
OMG you should make something for your cat next! So cute! 😻
I think'll I'll make some raffia cat toys :)
What other types of yarn materials have you used or would like to for sturdy bags or baskets? I see people talk about tshirt but cant seem 5o get my hands on it. Rafia is awesome but looks painful but what else would you consider trying for sturdy types of projects
Good quality raffia is painless! But honestly sugar and cream cotton is similarly good.

You need to add a plastic bottom to the bags for durability otherwise they will not hold up properly.
It will be OK. I like to stay away from plastic where I can.
You realize you're going to have to make a bag for Pooj (Pooge? Poodge? How do you spell his name?), he just took to the bag, and I bet it was difficult to get him out of it. His birthday must be coming up, make him a bag!
She had her birthday in april! She loves being carried inside a bag. Ill definitely have to make some totes :)
I wonder if a leather thimble on your middle finger would help with discomfort from holding the project
I think I just needed to he more informed in my raffia choice. There's great ones out there
