- Battle at the Kruger National Park in South Africa. A Snake attacks a Chameleon. The Chameleon gets away but will he make it?
At first people told me it was a young Black Mamba, thnx to you guys I now know it's a female Boomslang.

It's scary how quick and determined the snake is.
That is definitely not a black mamba, but a boomslang. The fact it slithered away so quickly after realizing it was being watched is a sure indication of a boomslang which are incredibly shy snakes! I saw the same reaction with one boomslang at a snake park! Secondly, the size of its eye, structure of its head and even the shape of its pupil are also sure indications that this is a boomslang.

Awesome video. The snake is a dark-phased Boomslang (Dispholidus typus) and the chameleon is a Flap-neck Chameleon (Chamaeleo dilepis). Chameleons make up a large portion of the Boomslang's diet, it's awesome you were able to capture this one film. Cheers!
I'm 10 years late, but thanks for clarification. I thought it was a juvenile black mamba but your point makes more sense. Its eyes are not fully black and it bites the chameleon for longer to inject more venom.

What surprise? The snake left and the chameleon probably died.
The Boomslang has hemotoxic venom. He didn't get very far. As soon as everyone was gone, the snake probably came back for it. They have a great sense of smell and can track for long distances.
The thing is he cant even eat it. Way too big
Yes very poisonous but teeth rear in mouth can only bite what he can took deep into his mouth.

it's definitely a Boomslang, notice how it tries to sort of chew into its prey to inject more venom. A black mamba wouldn't have to strike more than once as its venom is faster acting...

Chances are that there was no actual venom injected, the venom fangs on a boomslang is very far back in the mouth. It would basically have to "chew"on the chameleon to get venom in. I think he is save, very cool video though.

A surprise ending would be if the chameleon took out a top hat and a cane and started singing “Charleston.”
Reason chameleon never die is boomslang is rear fanged. It has to bite and latch on to its victim, basically chew till it's rear fangs sink in.

I witnessed a Boomslang with a chameleon , last year. It was a 30 minute battle. In this case though, the snake did win. Amazing sighting. My first sighting of an animal fighting for it's life. Never thought that I could watch this sort of thing, I had to remind myself that it is natural and nature intended. So I detached ! I was amazed at the strength and guts displayed by the chameleon .

This was cruel to both the snake and the chameleon. Unless the chameleon has an immunity to the mambas venom it is going to still die a painful death. By scaring the snake away the cameraman only prolonged the chameleon's suffering

There are two types of mambas in South Africa. The black mamba and the green mamba. The boomslang sometimes gets confused with the green mamba, but they are different snakes completely. But a black mamba is not the same thing as a boomslang!
