Yeah I said that in another comment. I always play as a girl even though I'm a dude and not once has the video game avatar had me questioning my identity. In the same way, when I play games with a female lead I'm more interested in the story and how they build the characters than I am with what gender or color of skin those characters are.
Imagine trying to start beef with Stardew Valley of all games. Half the dialogue just calls the player by their name, call you farmer, and the action texts just say "you". Outside of a few characters, I don't even think the players gender is referenced at all.
There's a visual novel called Hush Hush: Only Your Love Can Save Them from the same developers as Crush Crush and using much of the same cast. The dialogue in that game never uses a gender and when they do refer to the character in the third person, they use they/them. You don't get the chance to choose a gender, you're just they/them. Much screeching was to be had on the Steam forums over interactive goon material.
The pronouns nonsense is just straight-up RELIGIOUS authoritarianism. They're a way to demand for you affirm belief in "genders", independent of sex- A 100% "taken on faith" religious ideology, which had exactly ZERO basis in evidence. NEVER play along with the "pronouns" B.S; The more people submit to these people, the more entitled demanding and authoritarian they get.
Except having more options benefits people and harms no one. You're not forced to go by they/them if there's a they/them option, that's the symmetry breaker.
To be fair, as someone who also has undiagnosed chronic pain, it's not that easy to get diagnosed. I've been trying to get diagnosed for about 11 years now. Also I'm sorry for any grammer mistakes that I may have made, english is not my first language :)

Public healthcare doesn't want to treat you because it takes up resources. Our NHS can take months to get a diagnosis for literally anything. I have a condition that can be found from a single blood test, and it still took them 4 months to find it, despite doing 4 blood tests...
They can't because the doctor will tell them flat out that they don't have those things and they will lose victim points. Also, be skeptical of any woman that has autism, since it is extremely rare in girls, so more than likely its fake, especially when they don't have visually obvious symptoms. I knew women in my community who were ignored and later found out they had PCOS. So the chronic pain can be a varity of things, I am no doctor. It doesnt take a lot to just be nice to people and to not assume the worst out of them when theyre in pain.

Stardew Valley already allows for same-sex marriages with certain characters. I'm not sure what they want. I guess a non-binary option during character creation? The sprite is already fairly basic and there's not a ton of difference between the male and female option. At this point, I'm convinced that non-binary is just short for "malignant narcissist." Edit to add after watching: yup, it's exclusionary of enbees. I'm getting so sick of these people.

Even picking male or female doesn't change anything in the game, you aren't even called by any pronouns in the game other than "farmer" and "you". There are way more interesting ways to be immersive other than "**pronouns**" basically what heels says at 15:04. Pronouns are immersion breaking and only relevant in the current day.
I've played most of my runs in Stardew as a woman even though I'm a regular straight guy and never once did I question my identity because of it. If their "gender dysphoria" so bad to the point that a video game avatar can trigger it, maybe they need a different hobby.

I really always find it wrong when people try to force their beliefs onto someone else and this is no different, if the dev of stardew valley is either neutral or even against the idea of more than two genders he is free to do as he please with his own game. To add to the whole diversity thing, I thought Stardew Valley being a rural small town, the few other non-white characters in there feel really natural inclusions. The it's a rural farming town, not California central, or if it was I guess like 90% of the characters would then be mexicans. Even the person of shadow is pretty cool
You can also play as a character when you play a game. You can be non binary and choose a sex and build a character that is that sex. Most games you cant even customize your character.
That was my first thought too. I'm a guy, but I can make a female character in stardew and not suffer "gender dysphoria" or "invalidation" because as a rational human I understand the npc's are talking to a CHARACTER. Not me. I can't imagine how they feel playing a game where the character is predesigned.

There's a "Red Dwarf" episode where criticism is made illegal, and the society is insane and doesn't function. For example, an adult draws a stick figure and it's hung like a fine work of art. I know it seems harsh, but perhaps some bullying, provided it isn't excessive or prolonged, is good for individuals.

In my 550 hours of playing Stardew Valley over the years, I don't recall the player ever being referred to in any way besides directly by name, making this entire petition pointless. Also, that sound effect they keep using in the video drove me crazy.
If your player character being referred to with pronouns different than what you go by irl genuinely makes you dysphoric its already over for you, it does not get better.

@dougs1765 I agree that you must move when you suffer chronic pain. I did quite a lot of things to make life easier for myself. The first thing was buying a standing desk and exchanged my chairs with backrests for height-adjustable stools. I do my best to stay active and indeed watch my weight like a hawk. All of that isn't possible without medical pain mitigation though. I wouldn't state that it is very easy to deal with chronic pain, but the problem is that many people that say that they suffer chronic pain don't suffer chronic pain at all. Especially not if they're so obese that their hands have no definition to them anymore and they sit down slumped in a chair with a backrest for hours. Something doesn't add up there.
The best part about this is there is already a mod for the game that does what they are asking for, and is likely the reason the dev is not worried about adding the option. Which in my mind is where stuff like this belongs, just let users tailor games to their preferences.

I disagree with the observation that heelsvsbabyface and the girl are two sides of the same coin. He expressed his frustrations towards these kinds of writers/SweetbabyInc inject their politics into everything, and it was the use of pronouns in Starfield that prompted his rant. This girl however is just frustrated by the lack of a they/them option in Stardew Valley.
I know a little about coding and not voice acting, if the gendered pronouns where voice acted it would be imposable to create your own pronouns unless you used an AI voice, but that causes a lot of voice actors to get riled up. If the pronouns used are in text form it is theoretically possible to create your own pronouns but the developer would have to create a system that registers a pronoun in their various forms (he/him/himself.....) that the player would have to write out (some people get upset at character creators in games, so that would add a extra bit of irritation to anyone that doesn't car i.e. gamers) and would have to stick to mostly gender binary neutral sentence structure which with English would not be that difficult. But the problems occur with multi gender pronouns are used the developers would need to adjust adjectives as well to reflect the conversation (he has/they has, they haven't/he haven't). The difficulty of this process if it was considered from the start could be a very efficient way to store dialog, rather than having two sentences written out changing he to she you could instead have just "[] has". However this amount of pedantry is only utilised by people like me who know that the more efficient way is to write out only female gendered pronouns then adding a line of code that removes the S and R from the sentence if you pick male.
I've never played, but this has a queer-friendly version of Harvest Moon's dating sim feature, right? Is every NPC equally bi/pan? And, regardless of whether their preferences are weighted, do their dialogue trees react differently to same/different gender in ways that don't necessarily reference gender? I kept finding people complaining about this and links to random people's mods rather than answers. Anyway, aside from the pronouns-obsessed anti-SJWs, these people remind me of the way disgruntled leftist Harry Potter fans act. Probably a good amount of overlap, given the similar language and faux-nice passive aggressive mannerisms (the way people like Soulbunni talk, basically). Is the next move to finally decide to boycott playing the game--they already own, in this case--until they get what they want, then harass fans who still publicly play it?
This woman 100% doesn't play stardew. The game doesn't make you pick your "gender", it literally says "male" and "female", which by leftist logic isn't your "gender identity" anyways. The dialogue also VERY RARELY refers to the player by a pronoun, instead using their player's name... As for how "easy" this update would have been, I can confirm (as someone that can code) that this single feature would require going through THOUSANDS of dialogue prompts and reading them one by one to see if the pronoun is in reference to the player or not, since characters reference other characters with pronouns too, so control F won't save you much if any time....
@@danielli3288 The variables are too wide spread for that. Your characters gender doesn't just plug in a variable, you are getting a full on different dialogue set. It's what allows characters to have different archs depending on the gender of the PC.

Here’s why it’s a can of worms and NOT as easy to add as people say: Your character starts a family in the game. As in, if you pick female, you give birth. Or your wife gives birth. idk what happens if a male character marries a man, but I assume they mail order a kid or something. Add nonbinary pronouns and suddenly you have to also ask if they’re a womb haver. IMAGINE WHAT AZ WOULD SAY. “Stardew Valley, the farming game where you have to tell the game if you’re a birthing person”
It’s a can of worms simply because it will never be enough. What I don't get, genuinely, is I have played video games probably longer than this person has been alive. In all that time, when given an option, I have never made a character who looks like me. It's not that I couldn't, it just never occurred to me. I am me and the avatar in the game is an object in the game. It can be female, male, orc, robot whatever. Why is there this need to see yourself in the game? You're not in the game, you are a real-ass person.

Imagine trying to start beef with Stardew Valley of all games. Half the dialogue just calls the player by their name, call you farmer, and the action texts just say "you". Outside of a few characters, I don't even think the players gender is referenced at all.
There's a visual novel called Hush Hush: Only Your Love Can Save Them from the same developers as Crush Crush and using much of the same cast. The dialogue in that game never uses a gender and when they do refer to the character in the third person, they use they/them. You don't get the chance to choose a gender, you're just they/them.

Public healthcare doesn't want to treat you because it takes up resources. Our NHS can take months to get a diagnosis for literally anything. I have a condition that can be found from a single blood test, and it still took them 4 months to find it, despite doing 4 blood tests...

You dont seem like a kind person. Assuming things that may not be true. What if she has PCOS? Its a chronic condition that causes weight gain and is pretty common, but there are counts of women being treated unfairly and that their eating habits were the problem, when it was PCOS and if you know anything about the US Healthcare system, women are often treated unfairly or ignored. I knew women in my community who were ignored and later found out they had PCOS.
So the chronic pain can be a varity of things, I am no doctor. It doesnt take a lot to just be nice to people and to not assume the worst out of them when theyre in pain.

Stardew Valley already allows for same-sex marriages with certain characters. I'm not sure what they want. I guess a non-binary option during character creation? The sprite is already fairly basic and there's not a ton of difference between the male and female option. At this point, I'm convinced that non-binary is just short for "malignant narcissist."

The first thing was buying a standing desk and exchanged my chairs with backrests for height-adjustable stools. I do my best to stay active and indeed watch my weight like a hawk.
All of that isn't possible without medical pain mitigation though. I wouldn't state that it is very easy to deal with chronic pain, but the problem is that many people that say that they suffer chronic pain don't suffer chronic pain at all. Especially not if they're so obese that their hands have no definition to them anymore and they sit down slumped in a chair with a backrest for hours. Something doesn't add up there.

I like when they say I use they them pronouns but then never refer to themselves in a third person with pronouns 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
I know a little about coding and not voice acting, if the gendered pronouns where voice acted it would be imposable to create your own pronouns unless you used an AI voice, but that causes a lot of voice actors to get riled up. If the pronouns used are in text form it is theoretically possible to create your own pronouns but the developer would have to create a system that registers a pronoun in their various forms (he/him/himself.....) that the player would have to write out (some people get upset at character creators in games, so that would add a extra bit of irritation to anyone that doesn't car i.e. gamers) and would have to stick to mostly gender binary neutral sentence structure which with English would not be that difficult. But the problems occur with multi gender pronouns are used the developers would need to adjust adjectives as well to reflect the conversation (he has/they has, they haven't/he haven't). The difficulty of this process if it was considered from the start could be a very efficient way to store dialog, rather than having two sentences written out changing he to she you could instead have just "[] has". However this amount of pedantry is only utilised by people like me who know that the more efficient way is to write out only female gendered pronouns then adding a line of code that removes the S and R from the sentence if you pick male.

I've never played, but this has a queer-friendly version of Harvest Moon's dating sim feature, right? Is every NPC equally bi/pan? And, regardless of whether their preferences are weighted, do their dialogue trees react differently to same/different gender in ways that don't necessarily reference gender? I kept finding people complaining about this and links to random people's mods rather than answers.
Anyway, aside from the pronouns-obsessed anti-SJWs, these people remind me of the way disgruntled leftist Harry Potter fans act. Probably a good amount of overlap, given the similar language and faux-nice passive aggressive mannerisms (the way people like Soulbunni talk, basically). Is the next move to finally decide to boycott playing the game--they already own, in this case--until they get what they want, then harass fans who still publicly play it?

This woman 100% doesn't play stardew. The game doesn't make you pick your "gender", it literally says "male" and "female", which by leftist logic isn't your "gender identity" anyways. The dialogue also VERY RARELY refers to the player by a pronoun, instead using their player's name... As for how "easy" this update would have been, I can confirm (as someone that can code) that this single feature would require going through THOUSANDS of dialogue prompts and reading them one by one to see if the pronoun is in reference to the player or not, since characters reference other characters with pronouns too, so control F won't save you much if any time....
if it did reference the pc's pronouns, couldn't you just access the pc's sex/gender whatever variable and change the dialogue from there
@@danielli3288 The variables are too wide spread for that. Your characters gender doesn't just plug in a variable, you are getting a full on different dialogue set. It's what allows characters to have different archs depending on the gender of the PC.
These people are the ones so unintelligent they can’t understand hypotheticals. Of course the character has to be exactly them, they can’t even imagine what would have happened if they hadn’t eaten breakfast yesterday not to mention if they were a whole new person with a new background, identity, etc. Easier to angry tweet about needing representation than learn how to engage with a hypothetical.

Why do you think games let you pick between male and female? The main characters in games like this are supposed to be stand ins for the player. Most people even name the character after themselves.

You are the type of people to read a characters name in a book and go “but that’s not my name? Why do they keep calling me Harry Potter in this book my name is ___” and then call the author up and demand a copy where they refer to you by your name and try to mob them online with your buddies until they do. Btw many games just tell you to put yourself in the shoes of the character and don’t let you pick. Spyro, God of War, Laura Croft, Uncharted, Mario, Kirby, Pac-Man, 007, etc? What you couldn’t even engage with a hypothetical about a kind of game you don’t play? Figures.
Here’s why it’s a can of worms and NOT as easy to add as people say:
Your character starts a family in the game. As in, if you pick female, you give birth. Or your wife gives birth. idk what happens if a male character marries a man, but I assume they mail order a kid or something.
Add nonbinary pronouns and suddenly you have to also ask if they’re a womb haver.
IMAGINE WHAT AZ WOULD SAY.

It’s a can of worms simply because it will never be enough. Say the dev adds “they/them.” Everyone is happy until the fae/fem, xe/xer, ey/eir, etc etc etc people decide it’s their turn and they get all butthurt because their neopronouns (all 50 bajillion of them that change daily) aren’t included in the game.

What I don't get, genuinely, is I have played video games probably longer than this person has been alive. In all that time, when given an option, I have never made a character who looks like me. It's not that I couldn't, it just never occurred to me. I am me and the avatar in the game is an object in the game. It can be female, male, orc, robot whatever. Why is there this need to see yourself in the game? You're not in the game, you are a real-ass person.
