#2 is true, natural alarm clock. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time. Takes maybe a week or 2 to be effective. Yes, even weekend, but that's okay. Now you can do a lot in a day.
Here’s the easiest way: Tell yourself why you’re getting up, who you’re doing it for and what the end goal is. Who do you want to be? I find who doing it for works the best, for me it’s my family.
Well you can raise the 7 to a 9 on Saturdays, and still will be kinda effective, but honestly Saturday's morning are awesome when you dont have to work and can go to the beach.. I wish I could do that.
I love the fact that you are being so natural , most motivational videos people make it seem like they perfectly do everything everytime which so not true , we all are humans and we all are imperfect in our own way , its just about the best versions of ourselves
I watched this video last night. Decided to remove all but one of my alarms from my phone and put it on my desk instead of next to my pillow. I went to bed, well... earlier, and in the morning the fact that my phone was somewhere else snapped me into remembering what I had planned. And then I got out of bed right away, on a sunday at 7am. Thank you for making that possible!
When I wake up and feel like going back to bed, I put my head in my pillow, scream “WAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUP” over and over again until I finally jump out of bed and start my day.
Thanks for the tips, Joey. I used to wake up at 2 PM and have not much time for things that were fun to me and no solely based on responsibilities. Now I began to wake up early, (still with an alarm on the phone for now), and the amount of things I get done is impressive. Appreciate your videos.
†Centucifix† yeah, did some research turns out we can actually handle quite a bit of caffeine before having any real harmful side effects. Although 300mg is safe I recommend you wean off of it, just so you spend less money on coffee yknow? Cheers.
This was one of the best videos I watched regarding waking up early! All the points you said about using our phones and different alarms as excuses, I am guilty of! I have a week left before starting at my new job ( after months in quarantine) and need to reset my sleeping schedule and morning routine. I’ve been struggling the past week to change it. Hopefully with your tips I will make it happen. Thank you for the video. Loved it!
I took zzzquil every night for a year trying to go to bed earlier to get up earlier. Today I'm up at 5am every day. I cut out zzzquil and told myself "I have to get up at 5am no matter what". After the first week of hell, i got used to it. Now the mornings are my favorite time.
Great story! Waking up early feels so incredible once you get used to it. The days get much longer and you actually get tired and ready for bed at a reasonable hour.
A bigger problem for me is how to fall asleep. I usually spend 1-2 hours in bed, being very bored and rolling over many times before finally dozing off. Sometimes I spend up to 4 hours of just staring on the wall before falling asleep.
Practice meditation. meditation is ironically hard (at first), but it will get you used to being okay with doing literally nothing for an extremely long period of time. It will also teach you to "ignore" your thoughts (positive or negative) whenever your mind is racing at night, and generally increases mental clarity. If you are not sleepy, simply don't sleep. Forcing yourself is almost impossible, and will likely make your insomnia worse. If it means u get 3 hours of sleep so be it. It means you will be extra tired come the following bedtime. If this happens then don't fall asleep during the day, ever. Don't even risk napping, just fuck it. It may take a few weeks and It can be uncomfortable/hard to do this but keep at it and eventually you will begin to naturally get tired when you want to go to bed. Cut out all caffeine after 12pm. It will definitely keep you up a little longer at night. Cut out sugar completely. If it is hard, start out with cutting any sugar after 12pm. Try to get your sugar needs from things like fruits or make extra sweet coffee in the morning. Just consciously decrease overall consumption as much as possible, that's the important part. Sugar really fucks your shit up. another tip is make sure its really cool in the room(but not freezing...unless u like it that way). Use very light covers and sheets. I personally found heavy blankets make it more uncomfortable and creates pressure points along my body. IF its warm/hot in the room you are going to have a bad time. Get a bed fan, the white noise it makes is therapeutic and makes it easier to fall asleep, try to avoid videos of rain or ocean sounds or some shit as they are too distracting.
@@nicholaspitti8171 Tnx, Been dealing with insomnia problems for many years after highschool and these are some of the most effective, least voodoo-like shit that worked for me. There's many more smaller tips but I want to minimize wall of text. I will say one more though because its probably the most important and I forgot to say in the original post.... Stretch. This is probably the biggest thing to get you to relax at night. If you find you are too jittery or can't sit still, even if you are tired, it just means you didn't get enough physical activity. You need to expend those energy reserves and release built up tension in your muscles. You do this by: A: Exercise (obviously) to drain energy reserves. B: Stretching before bed to release stress/tension in the body. And I mean REALLY stretch and pop your joints and massage the muscles until you feel relaxed. This can take up to a few *hours* (yes, hours) especially if you literally never stretched before. I can sit there and stretch my body for up to an hour before I sleep because there is so much built up tension, and I do this often. But even doing it for just 15 minutes is better than nothing. If you stretch (properly), You will feel extremely relaxed, it can even become a little addicting because you will discover how f*cking GOOD it feels (because you are literally releasing the physical embodiment of your stress). I recommend yoga if u really want to take it seriously. I can assure you things like meditation and yoga aren't placebo trendy bullshit, you just have to learn to practice them *properly,* which most people don't.
Get uvex computer glasses to block blue light. Seems like you're just not tired enough - most likely because melatonin is being suppressed due to looking at blue light. Melatonin makes you tired but in a good way so that you can get better quality sleep.
My parents have had me and all my siblings plug in our phones every night on the opposite side of the house. It’s so nice to not have it in your room at night
Surprisingly , I have been doing most of these things in the morning intuitively. It just confirmed that I was doing the right thing. I would just add that you have to find your "WHY" which has to be important one. The more important the better it will be. Thank you for this video , it was informative.
"find a reason to wake up" tip 1: don't use your phone as an alarm clock(distraction when waking up) solution: move your phone to another room and buy a dedicated alarm clock tip 2: wake up at the same time every day (even at the weekends) tip 3: never set multiple alarms (giving yourself permission to snooze) tip 4: have a plan when you get out of bed solution: lock a routine in like boiling water for your coffee tip 5: prep the night before (outfit, towel, list...)
Bro if I don't set multiple alarms I will turn off the first one in my sleep and wake up thinking I didn't even set my alarm. Made that mistake too many times. Normal alarm clocks can't have more than 2 alarms set so it doesn't work
Than you for the tups other than the usual ones: get enough sleep, drink water, etc. I noticed that if I wake up and lift my head or move it, I will wake up with ease. Often I take a look at my phone and use minimal head movement/eye movement, and go back to sleep. I highly recommend moving your head upright and getting yourself in a vertical position rather than laying in bed for as long as you can.
I use my phone as my alarm, I use the loudest most annoying alarm, and leave my phone in the kitchen. I also use the Dreem2 headband to get more deep sleep, it's been a great week for some reason, averaging 2hrs plus of deep sleep which 30+ % higher than 98% of my previous nights, etc. Amazing bit of kit.
A viable Buddhist solution is to love it. Love college and it will love you back, it goes for anything really. You can choose to not love it, but it will jus stress you out. Choose to love and it may help you out.
If u that stressed maybe u just too dumb for college drop out and join vocational school instead guaranteed u gonna have a better time and u gonna earn more when u a plumber or carpenter or something
Wait until you start your "real life" I'm 37 & college life compared to being a dad to toddlers w a mortgage, car note, retirement savings, college saving for children, etc. etc. etc. is way simpler
I just stumbled on this video today and thank goodness I did. Every bad habit you listed I’d exactly what I do. I am retired and have no spouse or kids so I have become a person that almost never leaves the house. COVID lock downs really didn’t change my life much at all but they strengthen my resolve to live like I’m a hermit in training. I recently decided to try and get out of this funk and have discovered guided meditation and self hypnosis. These have been very helpful but now I need to add something more instructionally and energetically based. This video was the perfect find and I am excited to discover more. Thank You.
Alarms for people who are anxious about missing their alarm and don't have an alarm clock; - set one for when you want to wake up (bonus; throw phone to bottom of bed) - Back up for like 5/10 mins after if you can snooze and/or turn it off in your sleep - set one 10 minutes before you need to leave the house, so if you REALLY fuck yourself over by sleeping in, you've at least got 10 minutes to have the "shitshitshitshitshitshi-" morning routine of your nightmares ☺️ - the 10 mins before you leave alarm is also great for that time worm hole for "how the hell did it take me 20 minutes to leave the house?!" Idk as someone who is Doing Their Job Because Rent, might help. I get the why is important etc. But sometimes your job sucks and you just gotta walk to work and think "yeah I'm glad I'm not sleeping outside in this weather".
I've found that if I use the same alarm continuously I get extremely annoyed by it as I get used to it. Also, there is a high chance I would just ignore it and keep sleeping. And if it's too aggressive it would make me anxious and cranky in the morning but if it's too calm and peaceful it might not wake me up. I had to find a balance, so I have this app that allows me to play a radio on my phone instead of a preset tune, as an alarm. I choose this dance music station and 90% of the time, the songs are perfect - just the right amount of upbeat to get me going. I can also set up complicated custom snooze systems. I would set a limited number of snoozes, in my case 4. The first one would be after 8 minutes, not enough to allow me to fall asleep again but enough to just relax for a moment. Each one that follows will be after 2 minutes less, so 6, 4, and 2. The last one is super annoying and I usually want to get up afterward. The cherry on top is that If I want to stop the alarm, I have to solve 3 simple math equations otherwise the alarm keeps going. After all of that, wanting or not, I'm usually awake. The whole procedure takes about 20 minutes, so If I want to get up by 7, I would set my alarm to 6:40. My girlfriend, on the other hand, gets up immediately after her phone vibrates. The point is, try a bunch of things and see what works. Sometimes, the tiniest changes can have the biggest impact. However, in the end, If you feel like your life has no purpose and/or you feel depressed, it's pretty normal to have a hard time getting out of bed. You need a hobby, a goal, or a purpose. If you're passionate about your life and you have an inspiring purpose you won't need many tricks to get up in the morning.
Hello Joey, I just want to say that i followed your advice for how to get out of bed easily and it worked really well, thank you very much and keep making awesome videos like this.
"Dont use your phone before you go to sleep" "Dont stay up late" Me watching this video in my phone at 2 AM: "Ouh, that may be why i am very tired every day"
ahaha as soon as i wake up in the morning, imma remember this and then imma get up, remembering that i’m lucky and should use it... i kinda wish i was paralyzed jk lmao
1:42 My tip for this would be to have a number of alarms set, such that if you do end up scrolling when you pick up your phone, you have several alarms to get you to stop. I find that the blue light makes me stop feeling tired pretty quickly, even if I had a restless night, so using a phone as an alarm clock can actually be helpful if you do it right.
I loved this video, and I can definetly vouch for many of these tips, even if I'm not great at doing them consistantly. Part of the issue I've been having is being consistant about when I HAVE to wake up. I do opening shifts three to four times a week, which means I need to be in the store by 6:00. This means waking up around 4:30, or 4:00 if I want to excersise. However, If I don't have to be at work at 6:00, I don't have much of a reason to wake up at four. I'm still trying to develop a system for it all to help me wake up. I do really like your tip about setting only one alarm though. I've definetly struggled with that in the past.
The multiple alarm thing is trashed in every video but i basically lived on it and it made my happiness level so much higher. I have 2 alarms, 30 minutes apart. with this trick, I can give myself plenty of time to really wake up, cause i like to snuggle in my bed start thinking about the day and visualize how amazing it is going to be. standing up directly after waking up makes me groggy and unhappy. i prefer to wake up a bit earlier and give myself a cuddly time before i start being active. my goal in life is not to wake up super early and be super productive but to feel good and to be happy. this is what works for me and doesn't necessarily have to work for other people too. I actually have no problem waking up in the morning but i like the sound of your voice so i listen to every video anyways.
When I was depressed I would just lay in bed after waking up for 3hrs everyday and I just couldn’t get up until I gave myself the goal of making my bed. Having that small goal helped so much and I still do it to this day.
My sleep improved dramatically when I gave up caffeine about 6 weeks ago and there's no going back. An overwhelming tiredness now hits me around 10 p.m. (I'm still struggling to take that a cue that I need to go to bed! 😉) Even if I wake up during the night, I go straight back to sleep and I wake up before my alarm goes off at 6.30. I've always been a great believer that bedrooms are for sleep and the other thing 😉 I never take my mobile phone into the bedroom at bedtime and T.V. is a total no, no. If I'd ever had kids, I would've enforced that 100% regardless of pleas for the opposite!
The best way to get up early is to install some kind of catapult on the bed's mattress with a suspension. As soon as the alarm clock or the certain time is reached, you will be thrown out of bed whether you want to or not. It's not pleasant but it works 100%
i think my reason for wanting to wake up early is that mornings are just so peaceful and beautiful. i love when i wake up early naturally, i feel like i have so much time to do stuff and it helps me be more productive. but for the most part, morning are just so nice and relaxing to exist in.
I used to wake up every morning at 4 am before school to get in some gaming time and because i love how quiet it is.. before my brothers woke up. My new motivation to wake up early again: To get in some reorganize the house because my husband is a hoarder time... before he wakes up.
The thing that works for me is this: I use my phone as my alarm, but it is out of reach from my bed. You think it will be hard to get up to turn off the alarm, but it isn't. When you don't have a choice, you just do it. That and a consistent sleep schedule.
I agree in principle with what you are saying, but my work schedule is random and varies widely. Getting up at the same time each day is not an option.
Tip #3*: Only set one alarm on your phone, get an alarm clock which is really annoying and loud for the second one, and place it as far away from your bed as possible. That way you have the security that IF you really fall into sleep after the first one, you will still be awakened by the second one. But you don't want the second one to go off since its very loud and annoying and at the other end of the room.
True! I used to set three alarms, first two of which were ordinary alarms and the last one was with loud annoying sound which turned off only after solving three math puzzles. No matter how sleepy I felt, I never stayed in bed after second alarm.
I have gotten the best sleep in YEARS while I was in rehab. We couldn’t have our phones with us, so we all had an alarm clock to get us up. I woke up at 7 every day, didn’t have an immediate distraction in my hands, and went to breakfast. It gave me the tiniest glimpse into not having a phone, and it was so, SO much better than waking up at home.

I went to bed, well... earlier, and in the morning the fact that my phone was somewhere else snapped me into remembering what I had planned. And then I got out of bed right away, on a sunday at 7am. Thank you for making that possible!

I tried this before. I got out of bed, turned off the alarm, and just dropped myself in my bed again. Maybe i'm just not supposed to wake up
When I wake up and feel like going back to bed, I put my head in my pillow, scream “WAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUP” over and over again until I finally jump out of bed and start my day.
I don’t even have the energy to speak when I wake up... let alone scream
I have to try this! If it doesn't work, it would be still hilarious to see my boyfriend's reaction lol
I don’t even need to finish this video. This is the best tip.
It probably works but don't do It in hostel.
This sounds interesting. You just really have to push yourself
Thanks for the tips, Joey. I used to wake up at 2 PM and have not much time for things that were fun to me and no solely based on responsibilities. Now I began to wake up early, (still with an alarm on the phone for now), and the amount of things I get done is impressive. Appreciate your videos.
Can you please tell me what you did to help you making it happen? I have the exact same issue

Step 1: Create a caffeine dependency
OH I'm well PAST that. 300mg doesn't do shit anymore.
Brennen Hrebeniuk That’s the worst advice

@@derin6966 death occurs after approximately 5grams of caffeine so I'm still safe.
†Centucifix† yeah, did some research turns out we can actually handle quite a bit of caffeine before having any real harmful side effects. Although 300mg is safe I recommend you wean off of it, just so you spend less money on coffee yknow? Cheers.

I enjoy watching all these sleep advice videos. Really helps me get a better handle on my insomnia/hypersomnia issues
Smoke crack it really helps
5 am?! Respect.
And at what time do you go to sleep?
@@RiAPRIME more people need to try this
A bigger problem for me is how to fall asleep.
@@MMOStein literally the best advice. Especially heavy blankets
You do this by:
A: Exercise (obviously) to drain energy reserves.
@Libor Tinka That is because you were on your phone, PC, etc before you went to bed.
Quit using your phone and PC 30 minutes prior to going to bed.

"find a reason to wake up"
tip 1: don't use your phone as an alarm clock(distraction when waking up)
solution: move your phone to another room and
buy a dedicated alarm clock
tip 2: wake up at the same time every day (even at the weekends)
tip 3: never set multiple alarms (giving yourself permission to snooze)
tip 4: have a plan when you get out of bed
solution: lock a routine in like boiling water for your coffee
tip 5: prep the night before (outfit, towel, list...)
Thank-you!!! This needs more likes!!
Bro if I don't set multiple alarms I will turn off the first one in my sleep and wake up thinking I didn't even set my alarm. Made that mistake too many times. Normal alarm clocks can't have more than 2 alarms set so it doesn't work

It's scary how well the TH-cam algorithm is working. I've been having serious trouble waking up the last few weeks and this is really helpful
Thanks TH-cam for recommending me this right after waking up
Than you for the tups other than the usual ones: get enough sleep, drink water, etc.
I’m starting to really like this guy... helpful chap.
“Being on your phone at night releases stress hormones so don’t do that”- welp I’m in college there are 0 seconds per day I’m not completely stressed
What doesn't stress you anymore, makes you stressless
Oof
A viable Buddhist solution is to love it. Love college and it will love you back, it goes for anything really. You can choose to not love it, but it will jus stress you out. Choose to love and it may help you out.
If u that stressed maybe u just too dumb for college drop out and join vocational school instead guaranteed u gonna have a better time and u gonna earn more when u a plumber or carpenter or something

Thank You.
Alarms for people who are anxious about missing their alarm and don't have an alarm clock;
- set one for when you want to wake up (bonus; throw phone to bottom of bed)
- Back up for like 5/10 mins after if you can snooze and/or turn it off in your sleep
- set one 10 minutes before you need to leave the house, so if you REALLY fuck yourself over by sleeping in, you've at least got 10 minutes to have the "shitshitshitshitshitshi-" morning routine of your nightmares ☺️
- the 10 mins before you leave alarm is also great for that time worm hole for "how the hell did it take me 20 minutes to leave the house?!"
Idk as someone who is Doing Their Job Because Rent, might help. I get the why is important etc. But sometimes your job sucks and you just gotta walk to work and think "yeah I'm glad I'm not sleeping outside in this weather".
Lmaooo ty for this 😭
shitshitahithsit nightmares..,hahahaha good tip
This is an awesome video. Helped me so much. I used to get up at 6:30 a.m. to go to school. Now I get up at 4 a.m. to go to the YMCA before school.
If you're passionate about your life and you have an inspiring purpose you won't need many tricks to get up in the morning.
can you please tell the name of the app?
Hello Joey,
I just want to say that i followed your advice for how to get out of bed easily and it worked really well, thank you very much and keep making awesome videos like this.

0:20 "Do you have a hard time getting out of bed every morning? Well I don't. 🙂" KILLED ME-
I loved this video, and I can definetly vouch for many of these tips, even if I'm not great at doing them consistantly.

Impressive
I used to have trouble getting out of bed at 7.30. Now I go to bed between 9.30 and 10.00 and get up at 6.00 with no problem.
same, i wake up at 5.50 everyday and its amazing the amount of stuff i get done
"Don't use your phone before sleep"
I think 3 am is too late for that
My sleep improved dramatically when I gave up caffeine about 6 weeks ago and there's no going back. An overwhelming tiredness now hits me around 10 p.m. (I'm still struggling to take that a cue that I need to go to bed! 😉) Even if I wake up during the night, I go straight back to sleep and I wake up before my alarm goes off at 6.30.
I've always been a great believer that bedrooms are for sleep and the other thing 😉
I never take my mobile phone into the bedroom at bedtime and T.V. is a total no, no.
If I'd ever had kids, I would've enforced that 100% regardless of pleas for the opposite!
Great motivation

The best way to get up early is to install some kind of catapult on the bed's mattress with a suspension. As soon as the alarm clock or the certain time is reached, you will be thrown out of bed whether you want to or not. It's not pleasant but it works 100%
I woke up at 5 am feeling really motivated, it went really well.
*I went back to the bed after 5 minutes.*
Lol
i think my reason for wanting to wake up early is that mornings are just so peaceful and beautiful. i love when i wake up early naturally, i feel like i have so much time to do stuff and it helps me be more productive. but for the most part, morning are just so nice and relaxing to exist in.
at this point I am ready to go back to a flip phone and throw water all over myself when the alarm rings
Giorgio giogianna
The problem is it's also easy to get up, shut it off and then get back into bed and go back to sleep. Hahaha
I agree in principle with what you are saying, but my work schedule is random and varies widely. Getting up at the same time each day is not an option.
I literally just watched a video right before this with the exact same steps in the exact same order…
Love that you mention the sources from where you find your information!!!
Tip #3*:
Only set one alarm on your phone, get an alarm clock which is really annoying and loud for the second one, and place it as far away from your bed as possible.
That way you have the security that IF you really fall into sleep after the first one, you will still be awakened by the second one.
But you don't want the second one to go off since its very loud and annoying and at the other end of the room.
TPRammus That's clever

This might actually be helpful :)
True! I used to set three alarms, first two of which were ordinary alarms and the last one was with loud annoying sound which turned off only after solving three math puzzles. No matter how sleepy I felt, I never stayed in bed after second alarm.
i sleep through the loudest alarms😭
I think #1 is having a consistent time you go to bed, allowing for adequate sleep. Your night self needs to be helpful to your morning self.
Another good tip would be to make your bed first thing so you will be less tempted to get back in bed.
I just love how much you've changed in just three years the editing the video the knowledge and everything.

I feel like "Why do we need to struggle like this?" "This life is enough" when i wake up at 7:00 !!
Day 1 - What I did wrong was going to bed late which ultimately forced me to hit the snooze button the next morning.
Day 2 - It was kinda easy. What really helped me was keeping my alarm at a distance (which is actually the only reason I'm awake today.
