Court crack-up: Johnny Depp amused over tabloid stories, makes gallery laugh | LiveNOW from FOX

  • Johnny Depp became both amused and frustrated as Amber Heard's attorney went through a number of tabloid stories written about the actor before Heard's op-ed in the Washington Post, which is the basis for the lawsuit. At one point while reading the story headlines, Depp sarcastically complemented the attorney for reading the headline very well.

The purpose of putting the articles from 2016 into the record is not to say they were accurate, but to show that he was getting a lot of bad publicity that could have poisoned the possibility of future roles prior to the 2018 op-ed. The jury might decide his injuries were less than $50 million or possibly none at all. I don't have a dog in this fight - I'm simply sharing why the articles and questions regarding their existence were allowed.

I think he's trying to reiterate defaming inquiries just to desperately nail in the idea that Depp is nefarious to the jury. It honestly doesn't matter if it's stricken from record or objected, so long as they hear it. Well, unfortunately the burden of proof is on Depp's lawyers. It's a defamation case, and that's a bit more challenging to prove. That being said, even if Depp's team loses this case, it is VERY, VERY clear that the general public is overwhelmingly supportive and sympathetic to Johnny Depp. The public is clearly not buying Amber Heard's attempt in playing the victim. So, when this case is over, if she wins, people will boycott her movies and probably Disney as well, for what they did to Depp. You can't underestimate the power of the court of public opinion.

So, while it is pretty pathetic, I can see the, rather poor, reason behind it. This is a defamation case. They're trying to prove that those headlines had ALREADY ruined Johnny's reputation, in effect trying to prove that Amber's article changed nothing. However, the hit pieces written about him attacked his financial status and his tendency to drink heavily and use drugs; Amber's article attacks his integrity by accusing him of being violent toward her, as far as I know, this is the first one. So in that way it would have changed public opinion of Johnny. Kind of textbook defamation.

Does it? The jury was present for all of those questions. Regardless of if JD answered the questions, the jury saw and heard each question, left unanswered, and all and the implication of it. You say it speaks for itself and I agree, but I think it's speaking different things to each of us. I see it as a brilliant legal strategy to plant thoughts into the jury's mind.

I'm happy Johnny isn't allowing the lawyer rush him and keeps talking as he tries to talk over him(if he can get Johnny to just stick to the yes and no answering, with no extra comments, the chances are higher to turn the case the way her lawyer want it, if he cant keep Johnny from saying extra comments, he tries talk over in hope's the jury doesnt hear him). 1. read fictional titles -
      2. belittle the true reason for a case -
      3. switch to pointless reason on the fly -
      4. demand to accept that is the only reason -
      5. lock plaintiff in a loop by endless speculations -
      6. enforce the pointless reason -
      7. convince the jury that plaintiff made a mistake -

People today know what the media are all about, they will drag a celeb's name through the mud just for headlines.
Any logical person had only got to look at facts when it comes to Johnny Depp's career in Hollywood, sure he has substance abuse issues and drug addiction problems he is "human" afterall, but there has never been a single story even a rumor of anykind of abuse of women, by Johnny Depp. When a movie star is a A-hole you hear many stories of thier bad behaviour over years just like Weinstein.
the point is if Johnny was a abuser of women and real A-hole/SOB you would have heard things come out by now especially from his ex wives, Vanessa and Winona would be having a field day by now with the metoo movement. theres been nothing when it's come to Johnny Depp and his exes have been in full support of him that says alot.

Strategy. The goal is not to influence the judge, but the jury. In case the members of the jury have never seen those headlines, it's important for the defense to bring them up in an attempt to impeach Johnny's character.

@@Angelsilhouette But even then, it's a middle-school debate club strategy, because literally everyone with half a brain KNOWS that articles about celebrities are pure speculation with clickbait titles. So all that Amber's legal team are doing is making themselves look desperate/like they have no real evidence, and the Jury will just doubt Amber's case even more.

Because he making it a point that the same tabloids that wrote about his abuse on AH can take words and twist them around . Which is what he is using to proof that she had nothing to do with Disney or other money he lost. Due to journalists writing false stories or dramatizing a story to make it more appealing to the market.

@@daisyplease5823 but he was still working when all these "articles" were written. The point isn't to show that others also defamed him. That is admitting guilt in a trial that exists solely to decide if she defamed him. Other people did it first so it doesn't count? Nonsense.
