The "run and hide" technique when parents fight is real. It happened to me and I still have an avoidant personality and attachment style. If this happened to Depp when he was young, it's absolutely sound that he still does it.
I also have a retract technique when it comes to arguments and fights. I never wants to be in them or near them. I always go quiet if I find myself in one and hope it goes away or else i end up leaving the space. When people fight I try to stop it, but when it’s too intense I just end up having to leave.
Me, too. I vacillated between hiding and getting in between them to protect my mom and little sister (10 years younger). Made me a friggin mess that 5 years of intense therapy finally corrected. Mostly.
This trial has made me realize so much about myself. When I was kid and later on a wife in a toxic relationship, I too hid in my room or bathroom when even sensed conflict was coming. I still haven't overcome that, and to this day it has prevented me from having a healthy relationship. Hopefully my psychologist and psychiatrist can guide me so that I can heal
Cheer for your willingness to change. But sometimes it’s really not the problem of you sometimes it’s the relationship you are in. If you can truly have trust toward meaningful relationships or people, you might want to hide but in the end you guys will still have open discussion and talk the feelings out. I was very much like you in the past until I meet my husband, and then I realized I was not really the problem. In the past it’s all those people cannot make me trust them to resolve the problem so I can only hide. Hopefully you can find someone you can really be open and trust and then you’ll find you are in a completely different status of mind.

Killed me when he talked about his sobriety and he asked her to stop drinking in support of him and she flat out says no I don't have a problem. A friend of mine is dealing with sobriety and I've stopped just to support them.
I was just talking to my sister about this... Years ago, I used to work for a TMZ-type site which specifically targeted LGBT+ celebs and Amber Heard was one of our, let's say, regulars. Before she married JD, she was an out lesbian who was really abusive towards her female partners. Of course, since this is like 10-12 years ago, it wasn't easy being an out LGBT (not that it's easy now) and the abuser was a female, so it just went mostly unreported. I still remember the entire site being in uproar when she dated/married Johnny Depp because she was openly lesbian, not even bisexual, and suddenly she married a man (I mean, it's possible...sexuality isn't fixed) but soon the reports of HIM being abusive started showing in mainstream media. I have been rooting for him since even before they got married.... Glad that the whole world knows the truth about her now.
I totally related when the sister mentioned Johnny always being in a rush to return home to Amber. He could never feel comfortable and take his time, not even with family. That was the same way I felt, when I was with a narcissistic guy. They all operate the same way...you better be quick to return home, If they even give you permission to leave. But as for them, they are free to do as they please and you had Better Not question them either, or you will be called paranoid and jealous. It was hell, and I know exactly how he felt. I know. This has brought up so many conversations with my son. He is a huge fan of Johnny Depp. He would call me and ask if I thought it was true and ask my opinion. We’ve been talking it through the whole time. I think it’s been very important because although violence against women is wrong I want to show him that it also does happen to men too and what to do about it. I think Johnny is doing a great job in handling it not just because he’s a celebrity but he’s also human. We have to take that into consideration as well. Her pain is obvious. One can tell that this isn't a comfortable environment for her but she wants to be there for J. Exactly! Unfortunately, you and I know this first hand. Isolation is a key component. Then, you, as the victim, start to feel shame like it is something you have caused or that you deserve. It’s heartbreaking. Another thing I noticed, which is also very telling, is that you actually SEE Johnny withdraw into himself here. His posture went from that laid back, attentive, and confident posture to appearing to want to hide. He just shrank into himself. His whole demeanor changed when she mentioned how they would always run and hide at home when they were growing up.
Exactly, yes I feel you. They isolate you so they have even more control over you, so it’s just you and them. It becomes easier to believe everything they tell you. I began believing he was the only one who loved me and I didn’t deserve love, my family cut me out of my life because they didn’t care about me anymore, etc…terrible things. It is so clear that Amber is the abuser in this case. When the sister was recounting their childhood, and that they would hide when their parents argued and that she could see that behavior in him now, that broke my heart. there is just a feeling of helplessness that comes with that. This case is a catalyst for change encouraging men who are abused by their partners to speak out and, more importantly, to immediately lay charges against their abusers. My brother was attacked by his partner and came to my apartment after being punched and scratched in the face and on the neck. He just wanted a place to stay. It was heartbreaking to see him look ashamed of his appearance. I took him to the police station to lay charges against her for assault. I sued her for smashing the back window of his vehicle which he was paying off, but which was still registered in my name! She lost and had to pay. Thankfully it ended the relationship completely! Men must never ever be ashamed to speak out!
You can see the humiliation and shame on Johnny Depp's face. It's heartbreaking. I am so glad that he has the support of so many people who seem to love and care about him.

I just came here to say, Jhonny is innocent BUT this is pay back. He cheated on the mother of his children Vannesa and married a much younger woman. This case reminds me of my brother and his ex girlfriend. She was so fucking toxic, she literally ruined my brother, emotionally and mentally so much so that he tried to committ suicide. Thankfully we found him and took him to the hospital in time. Before he met her, he was a fun loving person. He never drank or smoked, never even had a girlfriend and was such a shy quiet kid. But after their relationship, he started drinking and doing drugs. Poor guy sold his bike to buy her clothes, would always be stressed and was always worrying that he might make her mad. I am honestly so glad that they separated. His new girlfriend now is a blessing and total opposite of her. It makes me mad that people just blatantly accuse Jhonny of being a wife beater just because he is a man. Men can be victims of domestic violence too.

Narcissists seem great at first because they put in extra effort to get the validation of someone being into them. Then once they have what they want, they slowly become distant and constantly create drama to try and recapture the unpredictability. It's an endless cycle.

And you are hesitant like "what?" then you get to "know" them in their infatuation stage. And eventually you reciprocate. Then a nice few months. Then 2 years of wondering wtf happened, and why does this person basically hate you now? It doesn't make any logical or emotional sense when you are new to that sort of thing. I knew logically that not everyone is going to share your basic values, but I never felt that emotionally till I realized she was narcissistic. And she went on to make other people's life miserable.

That actually caused me to tear up, and it brought back my own traumatic childhood memories of my brother and sister getting into loud and violently physical altercations when i was just a young boy. I would run and hide my head under a pillow to try and block it all out.

The "run and hide" technique when parents fight is real. It happened to me and I still have an avoidant personality and attachment style. If this happened to Depp when he was young, it's absolutely sound that he still does it.
I also have a retract technique when it comes to arguments and fights. I never wants to be in them or near them. I always go quiet if I find myself in one and hope it goes away or else i end up leaving the space. When people fight I try to stop it, but when it’s too intense I just end up having to leave.

This trial has made me realize so much about myself. When I was kid and later on a wife in a toxic relationship, I too hid in my room or bathroom when even sensed conflict was coming. I still haven't overcome that, and to this day it has prevented me from having a healthy relationship. Hopefully my psychologist and psychiatrist can guide me so that I can heal

I was just talking to my sister about this... Years ago, I used to work for a TMZ-type site which specifically targeted LGBT+ celebs and Amber Heard was one of our, let's say, regulars.
Before she married JD, she was an out lesbian who was really abusive towards her female partners. Of course, since this is like 10-12 years ago, it wasn't easy being an out LGBT (not that it's easy now) and the abuser was a female, so it just went mostly unreported.
I still remember the entire site being in uproar when she dated/married Johnny Depp because she was openly lesbian, not even bisexual, and suddenly she married a man (I mean, it's possible...sexuality isn't fixed) but soon the reports of HIM being abusive started showing in mainstream media.
I have been rooting for him since even before they got married.... Glad that the whole world knows the truth about her now.

You know, sitting here listening to all the things Johnny would do for the people he loved and cared for, and _those_ people's friends and family, without expecting anything in return, it just infuriates me all the more that this woman is doing all of this to such a good man. I didn't know he had a sister, she's really beautiful and calm. My brother Moses has been in abusive relationship and it's hard to watch, I hardly ever saw him. He always went to jail for getting beat up, it was horrible. Watching him be stereotyped because he was male and bigger and being hurt by a woman seemed to cause shock and disdain. I know. This has brought up so many conversations with my son. He is a huge fan of Johnny Depp. He would call me and ask if I thought it was true and ask my opinion. We’ve been talking it through the whole time. I think it’s been very important because although violence against women is wrong I want to show him that it also does happen to men too and what to do about it. I think Johnny is doing a great job in handling it not just because he’s a celebrity but he’s also human. We have to take that into consideration as well. I hope when this is all over he retreat and take a good long time for himself. He totally deserves and needs that. Team Johnny!!!!!

Exactly! Unfortunately, you and I know this first hand. Isolation is a key component. Then, you, as the victim, start to feel shame like it is something you have caused or that you deserve. It’s heartbreaking.
Another thing I noticed, which is also very telling, is that you actually SEE Johnny withdraw into himself here. His posture went from that laid back, attentive, and confident posture to appearing to want to hide. He just shrank into himself. His whole demeanor changed when she mentioned how they would always run and hide at home when they were growing up.
Exactly, yes I feel you. They isolate you so they have even more control over you, so it’s just you and them. It becomes easier to believe everything they tell you. I began believing he was the only one who loved me and I didn’t deserve love, my family cut me out of my life because they didn’t care about me anymore, etc…terrible things. It only gets worse from there until it gets better (at least for me).

It is so clear that Amber is the abuser in this case. When the sister was recounting their childhood, and that they would hide when their parents argued and that she could see that behavior in him now, that broke my heart. there is just a feeling of helplessness that comes with that. That you can't find solace in your parents because they are causing you to feel unsafe and the only thing you feel like you can do is hide. Im so sorry Depp has had to go through that again with Heard, she is a terrible terrible person

My brother was attacked by his partner and came to my apartment after being punched and scratched in the face and on the neck. He just wanted a place to stay. It was heartbreaking to see him look ashamed of his appearance. I took him to the police station to lay charges against her for assault. I sued her for smashing the back window of his vehicle which he was paying off, but which was still registered in my name! She lost and had to pay. Thankfully it ended the relationship completely! Men must never ever be ashamed to speak out!

This case reminds me of my brother and his ex girlfriend. She was so fucking toxic, she literally ruined my brother, emotionally and mentally so much so that he tried to committ suicide. Thankfully we found him and took him to the hospital in time.
Before he met her, he was a fun loving person. He never drank or smoked, never even had a girlfriend and was such a shy quiet kid. But after their relationship, he started drinking and doing drugs. Poor guy sold his bike to buy her clothes, would always be stressed and was always worrying that he might make her mad. I am honestly so glad that they separated. His new girlfriend now is a blessing and total opposite of her.
It makes me mad that people just blatantly accuse Jhonny of being a wife beater just because he is a man. Men can be victims of domestic violence too.

Narcissists seem great at first because they put in extra effort to get the validation of someone being into them.
Then once they have what they want, they slowly become distant and constantly create drama to try and recapture the unpredictability. It's an endless cycle.

And you are hesitant like "what?" then you get to "know" them in their infatuation stage. And eventually you reciprocate. Then a nice few months. Then 2 years of wondering wtf happened, and why does this person basically hate you now? It doesn't make any logical or emotional sense when you are new to that sort of thing. I knew logically that not everyone is going to share your basic values, but I never felt that emotionally till I realized she was narcissistic. And she went on to make other people's life miserable.
