      I just bought that rod for my last trip. Loved it! Admittedly I did use a lighter reel and line. It's super sensitive, and looks great.

    Awesome video Roger!
    Every salmon i have caught down there was a real horse! Been trying to get out for a beach fish but bad weather seems to have it in for me!
    Two things i found really useful is a 3ft (900mm) length of pvc pipe (just big enough for the butt of the rod to slide into, square cut on one end and a 45deg angle on the other so it goes into the sand easier) to use as a rod holder when re tying or sorting out a fish i just caught , mine has a 10mm hole drilled in the side about 20mm from the square end of the pipe and i have fitted an aluminum Caribiner clip( from bunnings ) through this hole so i can clip the whole lot over the bag strap where it is connected to the bag - makes carrying it a breeze ! the other is to wear my knife on a belt or in a sheath i have fixed to my bait bucket- i find it super convenient mounted there .

    Roger , you should have a few rigs pre tied and wrapped around a piece of pool noodle and use 20lb leader for fishing the beach . You will spend more time fishing and less time tying stuff burning daylight. 20lb will land you bream and whiting with no hesitation in the surf. At night I use 60 or 80lb leader on a lamiglass beach rod that I built, Mustad 5/0 ganging hooks and I land big salmon , tailor , gummy and bronze whaler sharks as well as a variety of rays as bycatch. If the pilchards get hit in the guts and no hookup I change the rig to a Mustad big gun 1/0 and use fresh salmon or tailor strips pinned once through the skin out the flesh side and you will be catching big bream .

    What we do in WA when we catch salmon. We cut the throat, slit in the tail so they bleed from both ends, dig a hole, drop the salmon in head first, as they wiggle they bleed out and sand absorbs the blood and keep the fish fresh

      Hi Gary. I prefer cloudy but it wouldn't stop me from fishing on a sunny day especially if the beach structure looked good

    I would have liked you to have put the worm on the bottom hook and pilchard on the top hook.

    Hi Roger
    Just beginning fishing and wondering what time to fish a beach in relation to tide? Also does wind speed, wind direction and tide height matter?
    Thanks Zac

      Don’t get to caught up in that stuff mate just get out there and you will figure what works for you

      Hi Zac. The run-in tide is generally regarded as the best time to fish and the top of the tide. All of the things that you mention have an impact. Strong winds are not the best.

    Hi Roger, do you find that mono line cuts through waves better and less drag than compared to braid of comparable strength?

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Braid of comparable strength would be thinner and have less drag

    I spent years fishing the rivers in California for rainbow trout. I bit the line like you and now my teeth are worn down on one side😅

    Intrigued as to why you don’t have a knife to quickly kill and bleed the fish?

    You dont hear people using the term mixed grill anymore, if someone is a bit of a nutter I say that he's a lamb chop short of a mixed grill ! Most people look at me with a perplexed look not knowing what it means.
