Roger, here is another South African tip. Not sure if your family enjoy a good mug of hearty tasty soup on occasion? Those lovely fish heads after cleaning? Pop a few into a stock pot (remove the gills), about two litres of water, add a diced carrot or two, salt and pepper, a bay leaf or two. Simmer about an hour and a half, strain and use or freeze for later use. An excellent stock for healthy tasty soup.

Roger you are an absolute legend. I absolutely love all your bait fishing videos. I watch them over and over. Not like the usual lure and plastic fishing videos all over TH-cam. Your videos are awsome and show exactly what the average person can do on a river or beach who doesn't have a boat etc. Keep up the great videos mate catching bait, using bait, keeping bait, storing bait, finding bait, finding gutters etc. You are very entertaining buddy.

What an amazing video…the beach where you fish is sensational and what amazed me is many times when you are fishing these pristine locations, there are no other anglers to be seen. The salmon action on light tackle was both entertaining and instructional. Live baiting off the beach is totally foreign to me as I usually fish the Victorian coastline (90 mile beach) and when I have fished for larger species it is usually with fresh caught fish of which the fillets are used. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video Roger.

Roger, I've seen fisho's cut the finger tips off rubber gloves and wear them to save the digits from been cut by braid. Another option for casting only is to use a bionic finger or casting cannon that is taped or tied to the rod.

Hi Roger, love the videos and learning a lot, never to old to learn new tricks, But I think I have one for you, I grew up on Kangeroo Island and when I was a kid we went black bream fishing in a river called Cygnet River, day before I would collect 2 to 3 dozen small rock crabs for bait Now our style of fishing back then for bream where we'll away from the normal everyday cast and hook as we see as the normal we would use only light 10lb line one swivel to the main line a small running sinker and long shanked hook, we would remove the claws from the live crab bai and and hook it in the rear back leg, we would cast close to a snag or where we thought they would be hoding, now the interesting way we did this type of fishing is once wasted we would pull a metre of line out and leave the bail arm open, once you see the line being taken up we knew the fish had hit and we would again pull out another metre of line and the close the bail arm ready to strike, once the line has taunt we would strike the hit, we were pulling in 2lb + black bream using this method and it works a treat, I would like to see this style of fishing for others to explore and trust me when I say that we never missed a fish doing this , could you please do a video so others can see and experience a totally different style of hookup of bream, look forward to seeing it, take me back to the island and I'll show you where these big buggers where, I'm sure there is some place nearer to you, but would love to see my explanation of this in one of your videos , happy fishing

Hi Roger always enjoy your videos very informative and please keep it up. Just a tip for you when you are using braid and casting heavy sinkers and big baits have you thought about taping a Breakaway Cannon to your rod with electrical tape it’s a game changer well it was for me they are cheap to buy and easily removed if you don’t require no need for a finger stall anymore you can put that in the bottom drawer. Cheers Richard

In the late 70’s early 80’s when fishing offshore from Bermagui we would catch small tuna and rig them in a similar way using heavy Dacron with loops on each end and an open eyed needle. Baits were trolled for marlin and sharks, very effective.

Thats a great hole on a rising tide with dusk coming on. The perfect recipe for Mulloway. Corporal Defriskbomb caught a Jew Fish/ Mulloway that was longer than the bath in the lines at RAAF Williamtown. He had it covered in ice from the mess and it fed about 100 people in a beautiful indian vegetable curry with BBQ'd Mulloway steaks. Many happy people.

Just for Interest, when I first arrived here I was pleased to find Mulloway which are called Kob and Taylor which are called Shad over there. I would value your input on this next. One thing that truly puzzles me is that Aussie fishermen don`t use a belt bucket (Saffa term) or Belt Gimble when rock & surf fishing. They really anchor the rod butt during retrieval when lure spinning and of fighting a caught fish. Do you know of a reason why this is so?

Crabs are an issue and I have fished other surf beaches with a float in the distant past with success on salmon but I have never seen anyone else doing it. I think it would be useful for the rod in the holder, to have a float on it. Also wondering whether having a float at the right tide time might help suck the bait out deeper?

Howzit from South Africa my bru, wanted to know how to identify a good spot to fish on sandy beaches. What should I look for? Originally a freshwater fisherman and moved to the coast now.

Really enjoying the Vids Roger. A question about holding the rod. Do you always keep a finger on the line when holding or can bites be felt as good just thru the rod?

Hi Doug, It is my habit to keep a finger on the line. It definitely helps with sensitivity to bites.

Hi Roger, thank you so much for the videos. I would like to know how to identify a hole in the water and also with rock fishing I always get snagged maybe between rocks or weeds, could you advise me the best method to set up a rig? Thanks so much.

Roger. Love the content. Just a question, I’ve seen your “best rig” video with the wire trace and two hooks. You say that hook shyness is not a big issue in the surf but I often see you fishing where Tailor are a threat but you don’t seem to use the wire. Any reason?

Gday Roger. Thankyou for your shared knowledge. I enjoy all of your video's.
Do you use a float rig at all and if so, how to rig it.

Thank you Roger for the awesome educational content. I'm new to your channel but align with much of your message. The plastics in the cable ties. Are they recoverable?

Hi Roger another question please how do you know what the other rods are doing in the dark whilst you're fishing with the smaller rod?

    • @RogerOsborneFishing

Hopefully I hear the drag. I am relying on the fish to hook themselves.

Are cast nets banned in NSW. IF so how and were do ya get mullet from.

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, cast nets are banned in NSW. I use a light rod with no sinker and a small bread bait on a size 12 hook to catch the mullet. It's easy, I normally catch a dozen or so in about 15 minutes. (berley first to attract the Mullet)
