    I have a junker bike for this reason. It's an 80's mountain bike I bought off CL for $150 over 12 years ago. It's all rusted out, including the spokes, and the parts are old and not top end so no reason for anyone to try to take it. It still rides fine. I covered it in stickers to give it some personality. I take that bike if I need to lock up anywhere for more than 15 mins, much less several hours or overnight. Nothing worse than stressing out over leaving a nice bike, especially a Brompton, unattended even with the best diamond rated lock.

    No way I would keep my Brommy outside. I would walk there if it only takes 30 min.

    I never lock my Brompton so I have to take it everywhere with me. It is a blessing it is so small when folded.

    Broken rear wheel spokes at the J bend ....
    Regularly check for even spoke tension. The proper tool for this is expensive ! You can bend them by hand or check the pitch of the noise made when you tap them in the middle ( like tuning a guitar ) . However, this can be inaccurate as some crossing spokes touch / do not touch and that alters the relative notes. The loose spokes are usually the ones that will break first as they flex more. Can you get a 20 inch wheel for an E-bike / Cargo bike to fit on the Zizzo forte, with thicker spokes , stronger hub etc ? More spokes would also be better. That Forte can take up to 300lbs so what are you doing to it ?!
    EDM reminds me mostly of 90's house music with a bit of the 00's. The original late 80's acid house was a bit more primal , often being held in a farm field or in old mills. I am a Brit and saw this ( Northern England ) .
    You were better off walking back home, especially if you drank any alcohol and couldn't ride the bike straight ( risk from police ) . You could have also been attacked when you unlocked the bike.

    I face this dilemma all the time! The moment I have any doubt, I default to playing it safe. I know I won’t enjoy myself at the gig if I’m worrying about my bike, and if it does get stolen I’ll be kicking myself forever for questioning my gut feeling.
    Also… AWESOME CONCERT!!

    i'd have to use my zizzo if i have to lock up outside. Brompton costs too much. i would use lyft to get to Mission and back home. it's much cheaper than replacing a bike.

      I've locked my Tern Verge X11 outside a store a few times with no problem. But I have two trackers in it. And I remove the pedals and saddle if I do leave it.

  • @michellewhite6692
    @michellewhite6692 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    There are so many places I would like to ride my bike, but don’t, because I don’t think it will be safe outside for more than 15 minutes. And I have a Tern not a Brompton.

    • @fender1000100
      @fender1000100 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I have a Tern Verge X11. The most expensive tern in the range £2500. I lock it up outside with two Litelok 1s. It takes and angle grinder more than 5 minutes to get through one of these locks. Nobody is getting through both of them. Before they'd feel my ergon saddle upside their head.

  • @Panotaker
    @Panotaker 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    All it takes is a cheap battery powered angle grinder, and you can steal anything in a matter of seconds no matter what lock you use.

    • @fender1000100
      @fender1000100 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually you can't.. There's a lock that takes at least 4 blades to get through. But it costs over $150.00. What makes me laugh is the idiots who spend 5k on a bike and lock it with a $5 lock. You cannot fathom the stupidity. If I have to leave my £2500 X11 anywhere. Its locked with a 2 litelok 1s. A lock like I just mentioned. If I caught anyone trying to angle grind that lock. Theyd get my Ergon saddle upside their head. The X11 has an alarm on it and two trackers in it too. Its also insured. And I take the seatpost and pedals with me.
      I never leave my bike more than 10 to 15 minutes anywhere. A bike thief would be risking his life to mess with my X11..

    When I go to concerts, sports events, etc., I leave my Brompton at home and take a bikeshare bike. If you don't have a bikeshare in your area, I would suggest getting a really cheap used beater of a bike to use for this kind of situation.

    I ride an old Beater Bike (old 5 speed IGH Breezer Downtown) to the Pool daily for an hour swim, but I don’t think I would ride something like a Brompton. Would not want to have it stolen. Good idea taking an Uber and walking back. I love the 3 mile bike ride to the pool and back. Between my swim and bike ride it is an about 1hr 20 minutes of exercise.
    Liked your concert and light show and I’m OLD.

    ...I lock it outside the fitness-studio as it doesnt quite fit the lockers. People lock there their 2k to 4k E-bikes as well... I also may leave it unlocked and out of sight in rare cases in the train or the restaurant (not always possible to take it alogn in the loo), while always asking someone to have an eye on it or by doing it on a moving train... but sure I try to have it as much as possible by me (inside office, appartment, lockers, hotelroom, folded in the supermarket, locked in the car or the bus...). It is also not all that expensive to get a theft insurance on it... But mine is also a hired/ insured C-Line... If I had some bought special-P or T-Line I d probably go a bit more conservatively about it!

    Froot loops!?!? Pibb Xtra, Cherry Dr. Pepper, hmmm, you're a very naughty boy. You don't have a junkier bicycle that you wouldn't mind if it got stolen? No rental bikes? Thanks for taking us along to the concert. Saved us a lot of money! You are really hard on your body. No wonder you have a hard time getting out of bed.

    Good call. You were able to enjoy the concert without thinking about the bike. Cool concert I am a fan of Above and Beyond, sunny lax, ilan blustone, and the like. When riding I definitely play the ABGT concerts. Its helps me time rides and keep my cadence. 🚲 🎵🎶

    Great video. The concert looked awesome. I take my Brompton on nights out but take it in the bar. Put it under the table. No complaints. Concert venues are not really ideal. Maybe they should provide some storage but if all turned up on bikes that would be chaos. 😂

    $30 for a mile and a half? I wouldn't do that for the 15 i regularly travel to my church. Sorry you couldn't feel comfortable bringing your bike there.
    Nice video and music. I dabbled with edm with Pet Shop Boys remixes, but never pursued it much, never mind going out to a concert.
    Take care.

    I thought the whole point of the Brompton is you can take it anywhere with you. My friend carries a shoulder bag in his rucksack. And if he has to go in a store. Puts the Brompton in it. And nobody is any the wiser..
    But why didnt you take one of your cheaper folders Brian?

    • @KG-theknickerbockerkid
      @KG-theknickerbockerkid 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. I think part of the appeal of the smaller sized folding bikes is the ability to take indoors. But in Brian's case, having any bike outside at night for a long amount of time is not ideal. Even the cheaper bikes have a special place in his bike family, so he probably didn't want to risk any harm to any of them.

    So interesting these folding bikes. I can't offord more than 400 bucks for one. Amazon has a brand called solorock for 400 bucks but I don't know if it's a total piece of crap. Wanted to get a zizzo but Amazon is all out of them right now. I wouldn't take a chance with your Brompton bro it's a nice quality high end bike. There's scumbags left and right out there unfortunately.

      It would be better if Brian gave some comment feedback ( had nearly a week ! ). To be honest, before this video came out I thought " is he alive " .
      If you read this Brian , you have to finish what you start. If something is totally unrecoverable you should say so , otherwise a lot of people like Randy are going to be ****** off !

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do read these comments when I get a chance. I won’t make excuses why I haven’t posted, but now that work issues are almost resolved I should have more time to finish the videos I started. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I have been working a lot and too tired for much else. Maybe I’ll do a video addressing my issues and asking for feedback.

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @randylong3312
      @randylong3312 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Please, don’t make any videos concerning your personal issues. Just make good bike content when and if the time allows. Eliminate any line that talks about how tired you are or how bad things are. We all have our trials.

    • @dawn_rider
      @dawn_rider 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ibikeunfoldedI completely rewatched this video and your issues were not a major part of it. I can see how at the start of the video you were ' framing the narrative ' and probably trying to explain your absence form YT ? I guess what Randy is saying is that sometimes your issues are distracting from the theme / focus of the channel ? I remember at one point you were thinking of spinning off your issues onto a separate channel, so that would probably be the best approach if you felt you could take the risk to explore that ? Social media is not the friendliest place in the world for that 😞
      The other thing you seem to do is say you will do something, then don't ! This is no good for you as you are putting pressure on yourself. You are creating unmet expectations in your viewers. Don't do it , just give us a surprise and reduce your stress level !
      I have to say , you have some talent meshing the video / music and a distinctive style.

    It really amazes me how much energy you have biking everyday, everywhere for miles on end but yet you don’t like walking a mere 2 miles? Dude, that should be no problem for you, a bonafide serious biker. You use more energy pedaling your bike than walking. Walking for you should be a breeze and 2 miles easy peasy. I don’t get it? Look I’m a 68 year old female going on 69 soon and I walk 5 miles every morning for exercise. If I can do it then a serious biker like you should be able to do it with ease. Again, I don’t get it.
