    I was actually in the film, Whiplash. I was one of the musicians in the band. I can say filming was absolutely amazing and JK Simmons truly is a Class act. I have nothing but positive things to say about the guy and the set vibes were amazing the whole way through.

    • @twixchexmix
      @twixchexmix ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if it’s not too much to ask, how did you get involved with the film? are you primarily a musician or in the film industry? I’ve been curious because musicians in movies like whiplash obviously are actual great players, but don’t know if they get actors who have music experience, or the other way around

    • @ycal520w9
      @ycal520w9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      So Whiplash was interesting. So half the band were actual college-aged musicians (killer musicians) and the other half were actors who used to play and could still play a few notes and could still "act" like they were playing the charts well enough. Then there were a couple of us that were actors and musicians the same and that's where I fell. How I got involved was it was just a random audition I had and gotten. had no idea of who was in it or anything about the film at the time. @@twixchexmix

      @twixchexmix ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ycal520w9 that’s super interesting, so while filming were you guys actually playing the songs, or just ghost playing so to speak? thanks for sharing btw, don’t really hear about the actor musician experience with films like this

    • @ycal520w9

      @@twixchexmix we were actually playing to tracks. We got all the music few days before to rehearse. Though what you hear is not us. They did use some audio of us warming up but the songs were recorded studio musicians.

This was a great interview and JK Simmons career is huge and he's so talented and he does great voice over work as well. Jk Simmons can play any character and pull it off flawlessly. This is so far the best Episode, Thank you for having the Simmons brothers on. This really touched home with me and what I been through not only as a child but my Adult life. The bully the abuse and the dark places I have been in my life, there is so much I have never talk about only to therapist. I know all about suicide and depression, Love that Michael talks about mental health on his podcast. Love what the Simmons brother are doing for children. Mental health needs as much awareness especially for children. I have a story of of a person that has special needs something happen to them from a family member from a child until into there teens that person was at a church camp when they were around 14 some triggered them and they took off running a member went after them to see what was wrong that person told them and they went to talk to church counselor went back to their parents. They kept it only with the church and the parents really didn’t do nothing, that person lived with that for over 4 decades finally is getting counseling and help and they cut that family out of there life. When I herd this story I cry and I was mad, they should of done something and that person should be locked up but it’s been to many decades. People like Michael and the Simmons brothers need to keep people know that they are not alone with their struggles in life there is hope and life is worth living so keep on fighting for it never give up. Michael you Rock!!!

    What another awesome episode, J.K. is so easy to listen to, and it was so great to hear from David too, the work they are doing with UBU sounds amazing, to be reaching kids so young and helping them with their mental health through music is beautiful to see. I imagine it is the same in America as it is in the UK, that the arts are always the first subjects to be cut from a budget, learning to express ourselves in various forms is so important, yet it can be so undervalued by society in general, but music, art, writing, etc, they are all ways that we learn to connect with ourselves and each other. Amazing work. Thank you Michael, Ryan, J.K. and David, much appreciated. ❤

    Thank God there are survivors and their families that can share hope. There are many people that can't see a future with them in it that need to find this hope and don't know how. To use music as their 'Treasure Chest' to make something buried within surface is inspirational.
    Thank you for this interview. I luckily don't have this need, but I'm definitely aware today's world does. Mental health disorders are on the rise and awareness is as well.

    Not only is this a fantastic interview, but I am extremely impressed by how much Michael has improved with interviewing his guests. I have joyfully watched his evolution in the podcast world, and noticed that not only is he more comfortable interviewing, but is also very good at making his guest feel comfortable enough to talk about sensitive and difficult subjects in an educational and at times comical way. You avoid the often predictable questions that many interviewers ask and dig deeper, further
    humanizing these artists on a level that people from the outside can understand. Thank you for making great content and keep up the good work!

    What I love about what you do; it's a Workingman's Podcast. Back in the early 80's, everyone I knew from my parents to most of my friends, and even musicians I met told me I should be fronting my own band. But knowing myself, I realized that I wouldn't last two weeks on the road without dying. It wasn't me. I have no regrets about my life. I met many brilliant and interesting people just being a Blue Collar Worker, and learned far more than I would trying to fulfill someone else's vision of what I should be. You do wonderful work here.
