    Retrieve #2 is basically how we'd fish 1/32oz mini tubes for trout in CA. I've caught some 2 and 3 lb bass with those tiny baits while fishing for trout too. So this makes perfect sense as an effective bass technique. Will have to check out those jig heads so I can do this specifically for bass now.

    I use the fluke in Northern Kentucky when fishing Ohio River and when im wading. I put it on a 6 ft crappie pole , a lite reel spooled with 6 lb high vis yellow monofilament. When i hook a monster fish, i let the rod and reel do the work. That's why a reel has a drag on it. Thanks for this video . I'll try these retrieve when im wading.

    I've been having the most luck with your 1st retrieve although mostly twitching it on a slack line. Yesterday, the bass were eating the Poor Boys Erie Darter (4" in Stone Purple) rigged on the 3/16 oz Hover Rig. I just wish the Erie Darters were made out of more durable plastic. They are so soft that the bass try to swallow it right away so you really have to set the hook quickly. You just have to experiment with retrieves to see how they want it that particular day. The Hover Rig is awesome to have on hand. Around NW Ohio, the bass either want the hover rig or shaky head worm in Junebug. For some reason, I've found the pink-colored shaky jig head also triggers them to bite.

    Matt, I wanted your opinion as to whether you think a high floating soft plastic that’s got a flat surface would work on a Carolina rig? Im not sure if the weed guard is strong enough but when you find the right weight hover rig jig head and I can see the bait darting and spiraling when you stop pulling to reel in slack. You could use it on a split shot rig with the lightest weight jig with a flat worm behind it. I love the old ball and chain and am always experimenting with different lures, leader lengths… But that hover rig fished that way came from the deep recesses of my mind. I hope the hook will be big enough with a light weight. 3/0 would work great i think.

  • @comfortablynumb9342
    @comfortablynumb9342 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What do you think about putting a chatterbait blade on your Hover Rigs? It could be amazing.
    If the right size Hover Rigs with stout hooks come out I think they'll catch on for the saltwater crowd. They should be great for flounder. But they have to be able to be strong enough for the drag on 15 or 20 lb test. Some for 50 lb line would be cool for grouper and other big deep species too. Are molds available for making them? If there are molds and files you can just scale them up for bigger hooks. I'd love to help you expand to the saltwater, maybe the musky folks would be interested in stronger bigger Hover Rigs too.

    Does it make any difference if you tie the line/leader directly on to the hook versus using a small snap?
    I personally fish very light rods with small guides and leader knots just don't sit right with me, impeads casting, might even get caught in the guides and the knots just wear out to quickly. Therefor I tend to use short leaders with snaps.

      @@MattStefanFishing $2.17 a head. 🤣 Damn what a rip off and it's not even tungsten it's lead!! 😂 It's no more than a .35 cent jig head, look at it ! Sorry Matt , I just find some professional bass anglers absolutely hilarious when it comes to their marketing "genius"😆
      Like Ranting RandyB his $10 jig 😆

    I can’t figure this rig out. I’ve tried a bunch of different baits. It’s so hard to rig it straight and to get it to run straight. I just don’t like the way it looks in the water. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong.

    Let’s be real here. You got better options for that first retrieve. A sculpin roboworm on a dropshot can be rigged weedless and worked the same way. Only advantage to this rig is if you wanna fish off the bottom but you can already do the same with a small ball jig head and a tiny keitech. Not see what all the fuss is about.

    Apparently, I'm one of those who doesn't know what he's doing. I purchased the hover rig from hog farmer. I've tried it on chicamauga and nic-a-jack and have yet to get a bite. I have tried it with a number of plastics. Now ask it does is take up space in my terminal box. Very disappointed

    Hover rig is a rig that's been around since the lunker city sluggo , more than 30 Years now. It's nothing new. We've been fishing this rig in CA ,MO, AR and other states , and Canada , for decades for multi slecies. It's funny how serious bass fisherman simply take a walleye and panfish rig and rename it Hover rig and then try to make money pushing and selling it as something new 😆
