    I was lucky enough to be one of the very first people to get my hands on the Hover rig. I put it through its paces over a long weekend when I first got it. I rigged it with several different plastics, but for me, the winner was just a 5" stickbait. Also, I fished it in places and ways it was never designed for - skipping under flooded brush and into thick hydrilla. What happened? Well, I caught so many fish that I lost count. My biggest so far is just north of 7 pounds. Jonny, Matt, Jimi, - you guys all know I'm a Hover rig nut by this point.

    The flying lure! That's exactly what the bait was all about.
    Amazing how the banjo minnow also was put out and put out and considered as a gimmick.
    Both actually caught fish very well under the right conditions.
    But that is the same with all baits and rigs.

    That technique looks absolutely awesome for saltwater fish too, not just bass. Flounder, redfish, snook, trout, jacks and lots more would bite it. There might be a market for bigger hooks for bigger baits used in saltwater.

    I feel I was amongst the early buyers, only used it twice and it indeed works. For me best results were shallow at bank. Simply because I have yet to learn how to cast it far. I bought core tackle version first, and when I went to local tackle shop they told me that rig was crap and sold me on Japanese hooks and Japanese tiny weights. First fish today on Japanese style I landed fish, the plastic fell off and lost weight....I immediately tried core bait style and fished rest of day with single hook and plastic till got snagged ( I took weed guard off though). Good product...will experiment more because I want it for offshore not on bank. Bc

    Before buying my Bass Boat, I was into Kayak fishing the local rivers for Smallmouth. I wanted to start targeting Largemouth on docks in some of the larger lakes. Which I did. That was the Spring of 2015. The Fall of 2016 Gene Larew and Lew's both came out with a "Dock Shooter" system for Bass fishing docks. Just the thing I was looking for. The Larew set-up used a hook that somewhat resembles your Core Tackle Hover Rig hook. They called theirs the "Pinhead Jig". The lure was a flat Bluegill type of bait that had a keel shape on both sides (Bobby Garland has a Crappie Shooting lure that I believe Gene Larew makes for them). They even came with a Pull Tab with a holographic design to aid in shooting. I haven't been able to locate the Larew stuff for a few years now. Lew's also had a "Dock Shooter" Spinning set-up that came out at the same time. All of which I purchased.
    Anyway, I bought some of your Core Tackle Hover Rigs and have been shooting docks with them. I've been using the Berkley Creature Hawg's (Thanks Matt) with good success. The 1/8 oz. 3/0 hook works great for this. I haven't seen anyone talk about this technique, so I thought I'd put it out there. Good luck all!

    Technically, that’s a “jig”, not a “rig”. I was called out by a TH-camr last month for calling a swing-head jig a swing head rig….because to officially be called a fishing “rig” you need some combination of a snap, swivel, sinker, bobber, or even a second hook added to the end of your line….I know Damiki calls theirs the Damiki Rig, so the differences between a jig and a rig can become a bit cloudy ……but it’s your product, and you can call it anything you want…I wish you much success on it….for suspended bass, it will be highly effective!! 👍🏼

    • @markg6960
      @markg6960 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting comment. On a high level, a fishing rig could be thought of as equipment consisting of miscellaneous articles. Even a combination of line, weight, hook and lure would be considered a rig....a Texas rig is commonly accepted nomclature for example. So a swing head could certainly be considered a rig as well, like you stated. A swing head is very analogous to a Texas "Rig". I also agree with you that unlike the original hover rig, which is line, lure, weight and hook in combination, this would be more accurately described as a hover jig. I got mine, BTW and they look great!

    Can someone explain to me how this is different besides obviously the weight but when you Texas rig say a Strike King caffiene shad weightless with the boot tail I can make that make hover in one place quivering ever so slightly towards me on the kayak at any depth I can see with my eyes wether it’s 1 foot or 8foot- but I’ve been playing around with weightless retrieves and i actually had a decent amount of 2-4 pound smallmouth commit to me working my bait that way as normally I’m fishing it “ about half as aggressively” as I would a hard jerk bait, just giving it longer pulls instead of short hard twitches….how is this technique different from that?? Just the fall rate? I know I’m only inquiring about one bait but there’s 1000s on the market comparable to it, so it’d go for about any of those , bootail or not I fish them a little similar, the straight tails i fish mkre aggressively but if I needed to I could fish them indenticslly. Anyways a response would be great since I always ask questions and never get any answers

    All you are doing is what us fly guys have been doing forever a leech, attractor or nymph under a slip bobber what it does is either let the waves do the action in the same area or pull the slip bobber which gives it that gliding motion but the key is depth control so the fish know that whatever the food form is, that it will not go down below them, rather be above them or in their face

    We do well on this as a weightless jig hooked bait for lake trout in ultra clear water. The technique is simple, the less you pay attention the better it works. They literally rip the rod out of your hand. Im excited to try this weighted version!

    Jonny,
    How well does the weed guard work over and through grass?

    • @FishtheMoment
      @FishtheMoment  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the type of grass. If you're fishing in clean hydrilla or milfoil, it works great. But if the grass is slimmy or stringy, it will get balled up. We are testing new versions with different weed guards right now to see how they work in different types of cover.

    Johnny how does it do in rocks ? I just ordered both sizes 👍👍

    • @FishtheMoment

      It works great! There’s no jig head to get lodged in the rocks and the 90 degree eye makes the bait just float over the rocks.
