    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@luisfe7187 I think you can! The only difference I can think of on top of my mind is that Lumion doesn't handle glass that well yet. And in order to get a similar result, you must use the Ray-tracing effect. Maybe this can a be video in the future comparing them both.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JoaoVitor-xy2my I wish D5 had an easier way to create a foliage wall. So I ended up using the Ivy assets they have available in the library. There are a few variations and options that can work for a small-sized project like the one I used. But I feel that if you need to make a larger area, then it can easily look like assets are being repeated.

    do more d5, it is being free is the biggest advantage, no way around it, just lacking tutorial for now is the problem, tho the d5 yt channel do provide, still we need tips and trick and walk around something, like the uv problem u mention

      For sure! That's a huge edge they've got on the competition. Hopefully, they keep the pricing model as is!
      And I totally understand about the lack of tutorials, I had to learn this tool this past month and couldn't find too much information on the software. The D5 TH-cam channel has a few interesting videos, but the UI is all in Chinese.
      The UV problem is kind of a headache, and I had to create multiple instances of the same texture to properly rotate the maps individually.

    In terms of final rendering quality, would you rate it above Vray?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a bit subjective still. Because if you give someone a 10 hour window to produce a set of images with D5 and then Vray. Time is a major factor in image creation, which gives the edge to D5. But then if there's no time limit and you can perfect the settings as much as possible on Vray, and get access to high-quality textures and assets... then maybe Vray still wins it.
      They are different types of rendering engines, so that's not a direct comparison.

      Well, then there are numerous websites that provide 3d models. Some paid, some free.
      I often rely on Sketchup 3D Warehouse to find interesting models. The trick is on the words you use to search it because there are a ton of useless things there. You need to dig a lot to find models, but once you do, they can be quite good!

    Actually there is limitation in free version: you can save render only in .png format no .jpg or other formats. For me is .png in most cases unnecessarily large.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I didn’t know that! On the website it lists only that Pro version allows you to save .tga .tif and .exr which are not as used for simple things.
      But if the free version saves only .png a quick run through photoshop should take care of this pretty easily. Or even Gimp as a free option.
      Nonetheless, thanks for bringing this to my attention!

    D5 had perceptual license before,right? now I checked and its subsription, its really a shame D5 also try to be like subscription based companies after first getting attention by perceptual license... So thats one of the reasons I wont prefer it. The people who bought it before perceptual license is gone, are lucky really. So, its really sad that they dont give users a option to choose perceptual license with limited 1-2 year update while also allowing for subcription models as well so people can decide which one to use, its not that hard to make perceptual licenses to have limited update years then making people pay less amount to update after 1-2 year, that should be a nice way, thats why I ll prefer epic games all the way because they are not like other companies who seem money-focused by subscription model. Actually it doesnt make difference, Its simple, if they sell monthly, its total price for 2 year update is similar to other softwares perceptual price, so its equal profit to 2 year subscription, and probably people will wanna upgrade it later by paying again with half amount to not miss new features or they can choose to stick with old feature if they are in a unstable condition to renew license to upgrade. So it wouldnt be a big profit issue if they put limit to upgrades but it just make user feel like he didnt lend the software and gives more motivation. So its really sad to see that D5 didnt turn out different.

    i don't know how people can say that renders made with d5, lumion or twinmotion are looking good. On the first look the pictures look so unreal that this can't be the approach of somebodys visualization.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's an interesting and new point of view to me. I have honestly seen a lot of progress in all major rendering engines in the market. If you take an image produced 5-10 years ago they look a lot different.
      The stylistic choices I made with these images obviously have an impact on the outcome... but I'd say that part from that they mimic light, shadow, reflections, and materiality in a realistic way.
      But I'm curious to know what type of images you would consider a good alternative to an architecture project. Is there a specific software you're referring to?

    would have been interesting if it was PBR and not some realtime bs, for photorealism this is useless.
    sure, it looks "fine" on first impact but if you were to make the same scene on let's say, vray, the difference would be night and day.

    No offense, but when oliver did a video about lumion being able to render in isometric views i just couldn't understand, even at the time. It's been years now and d5 render and twinmotion literally killed lumion. Whoever it's still using that shit is simply behind in the industry innovations.
    For oliver, better late than ever.
    And i still think twinmotion and unreal will be the kings of archviz in 5-10 years, even d5 will become more niched.
    As for the casual architect, sketchup + free render engine + enhancer AI will do the job for little to no price and much less time consuming (both learning and doing)

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No offense taken! It’s all part of the game. You know… Sometimes I need to look at a software update and compare it only to its previous version. This is so I can speak to that specific audience that is going to keep using the same software and is not necessarily looking for the best and greatest engine available.
      That specific video about isometric in Lumion that you’re mentioning was my first video of Lumion. I had to start somewhere, right? Introducing a new program (new to me at that time) isn’t that easy.
      Everyone has different opinions as you can see in this comment section and on other videos as well. So it’s not up to me to impose and dictate what is the best solution for all architects around the world.
      But I do appreciate a strong opinion like yours! It takes the discussion to another path.
