agree, i've been using twinmotion for over 5 years, but im trying to use d5 since a couple months, the light and colors are way more realistic, at least for me.
Twinmotion have always this cartoonish feeling imo, but it's faster to use

This video is great, fair but not complete. I would suggest creating actual projects with both of them. The test projects you made, seemed sloppy and not real, so the comparison was not fair. It’s important to have Same materials, same quality, and same mood.
I would suggest pick a reference picture, then start creating it using both softwares, as best as you can. Then you can do better comparison.
Also I would suggest to reconsider features part. You mentioned some features for twinmotion which exists in D5 too, but you didn’t mention. Like section cube.
Like in D5 you can import any object you would like, either from 3dsky or evermotion with ease and use it like asset library, can you do that in twinmotion?
Or you can make custom camera motion and custom animation in 3dsMax max and import it to D5 render, again with ease. Again can you do that in twinmotion?
In D5 you can animate everything, whether its your own object or from asset library. You can also have path for cars, people, animals. How about twinmotion?!
In D5, you can create any sky you want using Geo Sky, clouds and fog. You also can have many weather options.
Or beside asset library, you can make any custom PBR material in D5 render, you can use any custom HDRI, any custom IES or stage lights, any custom transparent video, can you do that in Twinmotion?
Or D5 has super fast rendering option for both images and videos. Or D5 increases quality when you render at higher resolution, for example if you render at 16k then downscale it to 2k you have much more quality. And since no size limitations exist for free community renders, you can simply have extremely high quality renders for free.
You see, for someone who worked with 3dsMax/Vray for years and has their own objects and materials, D5 lets you bring all of them and have your own high quality asset library and use them the way you use their asset library for free. In D5, asset library is not a must have, it’s just some nice added feature, and if one day you loose access to Internet, there will be no problem. can you say same for twinmotion?
D5 Pro is not a must in D5, you can use the app for a long time and never need it. but I buy it to support developers. Can you say same thing for twinmotion?!
I really don’t know much about twinmotion and I really like to know the answer the those questions.
But I can talk about D5 for ages because it’s my everyday life. D5 can ruin other software for you and makes you forget about them. Because it’s complete. D5 is not just a software, it’s a lifestyle and I’m not the only one saying that. Can you say that about twinmotion?
The only downside is knowing other software like twinmotion, vantage, etc have better quality, not that much, maybe 10-15%, and I trust D5 will reach them someday, but I really want to know if there are people who base their entire workflow on Twinmotion like that.

@PhoenixArtPortraits I really appreciate you taking the time to write this comment. I will make sure to take into account your feedback on how to improve the video and make the video comparison more complete. Thank you for identifying the features that I may have missed or didn't include, I'll pin this so others can be aware of this as well. It is nice to hear from someone who is an avid D5 render user because I don't know many people who use it. For the most part, quality comes from experience, knowing the right materials, lighting, and skies to choose from, and the proper settings to maximize. Some software definitely have a higher ceiling for the overall quality of the output, but if you don't know how to use it, then it doesn't matter.

This is a great video. I agree with most points. That being said, a software doesn't have absolutely accommodate every field that needs a render engine. I think its good that D5 Render focusses on Architecture, landscaping and Interior Design. Just like how you have Premier Pro and After Effects, both video editors but very very different in terms of what can be done on them. So D5 Render shouldn't lose points for focusing on one thing, rather gain points for trying to perfect the software for one industry before thinking of others.

    • @thearchitecturegrind

Yes you are correct, the software doesn't have to accommodate every field but it is always nice to have. Maybe it didn't come off this way, but I agreed that it was better that D5 Render primarily focused on architecture vs. twinmotion.

As someone who mostly renders landscape and garden scenes with specific plants, I find that Twinmotion's assets aren't accurate or varied enough - Lumion is the best and V-ray or D5 is a close second. However, Twinmotion will be free for almost everyone from the end of April 2024 so that's a massive thing to factor in.

    • @thearchitecturegrind
      @thearchitecturegrind  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The fact that Twinmotion is free for almost everyone is huge. In regards to your comments on landscape and garden scene I think Lumion has a great library for this, but if you use megascan or quixel bridge assets, those will also improve your Twinmotion scene. D5 has good vegetation assets, minus the grass.

D5 render for mesh management , gi ease of use, support for softwares, one downside though. It's doesn't understand material differences on instances. If instances of N object have different materials then watch out when you export from any software to d5 it will just use the same material for all which actually a huge problem 😊

@@thearchitecturegrind For some reason, when using an HDRI and enabling pathtrace, Twinmotion sets the 'Sun intensity' to 0, which is what is causing the 'flat' look of your top-right render. I find that pulling the 'Sun intensity' setting back up to about 20 (depending on the scene ofc) gives a much better result. Generally I'd say that when using path trace and HDRIs together it requires a bit of tweaking, especially exposure and lighting settings, to get it right, but can yield some pretty amazing results. But naturally none of this will matter if the modelling, materiality and composition of the render is not on point.

You need to work on your renders. They are all avarage at best. The d5 was the best one from the 3.
From my experience, quality is path tracer > d5 > lumen.
Assets are way better in d5 as well by a lot.
Eventually I decided to use twonmotion because of the overall flexibility.
Adding your own assets (including vegetation) and materials are faster and easier. The scene graph is much better in twinmotion and the flexibility in using the path tracer for high quality ray traced renders but lumen for quick rendes and video animation is great.
Twinmotion needs better vegetations and a smart grass material (+ better lumen) that is in the making and then it will definitely beat d5 for me.
Ps, Twinmotion is now completely free with no quality limitation for all (only cloud presentation is not free but cheaper then before)
