However it's disrespectful to all Salvadorans when you don't talk about the background in which Bukele was elected and how the situation improved in the first place. From being one of the most violent countries with high rate crimes to become a place where people finally feel safe and optimistic about the future. The way these "human rights organizations" talk is very far from the real life of a normal Salvadoran. Everyone loves to call him a dictator.. But nobody was there when my people were being slaughtered, women raped and young teens forced to join gangs! Nobody cared when El Salvador was the murder capital of the world! Now that this amazing god fearing president came to help turn El Salvador around, everyone has something negative to say! WHERE WERE YALL THE LAST 40+ years?! The people of El Salvador re-elected him, the rest of the world should take notes! Those gang members who committed atrocities to the people, shouldn’t have human rights! I said what I said! Until you lived through what my people lived though, you have no room to criticize Bukele! He has what many world leaders are lacking, faith in god and BALLS!
Liberals including these journalists and DemocracyNow have no freaking clue what it is to live in a low-income crime-ridden communities. Protect Bukele and let his reign continue to set the example for other countries
I am Salvadorean, El Salvador was a failed state, the gangs ruled over 80% of the small country ( with the full support of the 2 major political parties) . The political parties dedicated themselves to steal, destruction of the environment, while the population was being murdered, raped, made to pay bribes just to live to the gangs. Bukele ended all that nightmare for the Salvadorean people, thus, his high support among the masses. Bukele has brought Democracy for the first time in the history of EL SALVADOR.
This is what I’m saying like democracy now is so left that they only give a shit if you’re on the right and if you are they make you the bad guy no matter what but if you’re on the left, you kept possibly be bad. It’s just crazy man, the country of El Salvador was ridden and now it’s one of the most peaceful places in all of South America
im with you brother! i have never been a bigger fan of another adult than I am today. that man in Bukele. love what he stands for. love what he does! keep him in power for as long as he's that same amazing president!
So you just saw that Bukele became president illegally, probably because he is a billionaire, and that his administration is employing a complete suspension of civil rights and absolute brutality arresting almost 80,000 people. And you support this? He sounds like a good old fashioned Latin American caudillo, strongman, dictator or wannabe fascist.
Look into operation condor and the usa/cia has done in central and south america, look into how the usa caused the drug epidemic, the immigration crisis, and helped cartels, guerrilla groups, and murderous dictators take/gain power. I guarantee you that if they did this in your country you would hate the man. He's working with Israel and the usa with training his secret police on how to interrogate people and how to use the Pegasus Spyware on his people. Pegasus Spyware is what the usa uses aswell which is what Snowden exposed.
Im from El Salvador I live in El Salvador I walked El Salvador streets when gangs ruled the country And i hear what Salvadoreans think about Bukele (which is the only opinion that matters) Dont listen to these fake news
@user-ve2iv4ms3h i think he is the best president we 've ever had and he thinks about his people first Security was the main issue and he did great But theres alot to be done yet I dont like foreigners buying property and we still cant afford it cause economy is still shit, but rome wasnt built in 5 years, and this problem is worldwide, so.....
@user-ve2iv4ms3h im catholic and im a firm believer, i dont judge, but i think you are exagerating a lil bit Again, its your opinion, i respect it but i dont agree with you Even if that is the case, believe me, El Salvador is catholic by mayority I highly doubt he would accomplish that
@user-ve2iv4ms3h im a man of God He is too, thats all i care about Theres more important things in life than to fight over which religion you should follow
@user-ve2iv4ms3h im going to finish this conversation with this, God has a plan And you cant overthink things You cant fully trust any politician, and you cant treat him as a God, nobody is perfect and you always have to see the good not the bad Concentrate in the good things he is doing, we cant SAY that is what Bukele wants to do for sure, what i know is that im grateful for the good things And hope he can prove you wrong and continue to do good for his people Have a blessed day
All these human rights defenders have not lived in El Salvador. It was hell. And where were they when we needed their support when gangs were our neighbors.
It exposes that these "human rights organizations" have an agenda and it is not aligned with democracy or the safety of the people or actual human rights, like the right not to get murdered on open street. The constitution was not democratic. No western democracy has a one-consecutive-term-limit. It was ridiculous. And the state of emergency was obviously needed as El-Salvador essentially was in a state of war. Nobody called Roosevelt a "cool dictator", nobody regards the founding fathers as having acted "unconstitutionally". Why the hell would any good meaning soul defame a democratically elected president, who saved the country from evil, brutal gangs. This was a win for the people, a win for democracy and a win for freedom!
Exactly!!!! Well said... Makes me sick. In the US hundreds of people lead into the unlocked Capitol building have been detained without charge and not knowing when if they will ever be freed!!!
They care more about tbe human rights of murderers, rapists, torturers and criminals than they care about the human rights of innocent women, men and children. What about the human rights of mothers and fathers to not have to bury their children bc the gang members would murder innocent people on the streets?
If we accept that dictatorial powers were necessary to destroy the powers of gangs, they should have been limited to very short time period until the threat was over. Him stopping the crime problem does not mean he should be allowed to dismantle protections for Salvadoran democracy long term. Getting rid of crime should not come at the cost of him being a dictator for the next 20 years when it was not necessary.
I’ve been following Democracy Now for years and they are grossly misrepresenting the actual hell people were living in El Salvador because of their own political allegiance to organizations that don’t help the working class people. They rather focus on the human rights of murderers and extortionists rather than the actual working class population. The Salvadoran people finally have dignity to live and work for their own. All my family is from El Salvador and they all are grateful for President Bukele for helping the country heal. My grandmother is moving back from the USA. Get it together Democracy Now, if you are so blind against this President doing honest progress in a country where it was the MURDER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD to the safest country in the Western Hemisphere, how many other nations are you misrepresenting?
He's disrupting CIAs drug traffickers. Same reason that got these human rights watches raising pitchforks over drug dealers being imprisoned or killed in the Phillipines with Duterte. The NGOs care only when drug lords suffer but they don't care about the people
He illegally attained the presidency, did you miss that part? His second administration was in violation of the constitution of the country. Secondly I don’t see him putting the people of El Salvador first, but simply just brutally cracking down on anyone suspected of being a gang or gang affiliate. I don’t see him doing anything progressive or redistributive. I don’t see him cracking down on the rich, I don’t see him re-distributing the wealth of the country. I only see him cracking down on the poor, which is usually a good sign that he is something other than a progressive beneficial leader.
@@edbenti5007 The high approval rate is no coincidence. The people of El Salvador have experienced the transformation from the most unsafe country in the world to the safest country in the entire Western Hemisphere. Everyone there knows people who were brutally murdered by the gangs or lost a family member of their own, their child, their mother or brother. Even children were drilled to murder. Politicians, Judges, officials, soldiers, corruption and gang violence were omnipresent, they even controlled the prisons. Believe me, they can do without the finger-wagging from Western know-it-alls who don't understand that not every country can be governed like their own. If they listened to the western men they would still drown in chaos and pain.
@@edbenti5007 no. They took a vote to allow a second term dummy lol And today “progressive” means failure lol look at the “progressive” areas of the US, they’re shit holes overrun with drugs and crime. California and New York are perfect examples.
As a Salvadoran, I support Bukele; I criticize some of his actions but still support him because there is no other option, and he has done what we need. He got rid of the main problem of the country.
If he steps down when El Salvadorians want a new president I think he'll be the best thing that ever happened to your country. Although power corrupts as they say, and currently, the longer the emergency legislation is in place, the higher the risk that he won't voluntarily step down anymore. I'm not a hater, I'm very happy for you guys that the country is doing better, just saying.
Reading theses comments it seems the people of El Salvador want him as he’s got rid of the gangs. How can another country have any opinion on him if his own people want him and the gangs are gong!
That's the past, we need to think about the future. What happens ten years from now when the gangs are gone, but he's still a dictator and he's just gotten more violent or more corrupt or both. Just like Peron, just like Pinochet, just like Castro. There are Cubans who think the state of Cuba is acceptable because Castro got rid of Bautista, but that was 60 years ago. Maybe that was good at the time, but we need to think about the future.
if u have tattoos on ur fuckin face in el salvador u ain’t innocent wat hes done to save his country from the bullshit that the US started is his business no one needs ur opinion
Cuba,Nicaragua and Venezuela are also dictatorships they make themselves as the victims in those countries governments and by the Cuba has two blockades the another one is internal blockade which the Cuban government is restricting the Cuban people making hard to food and medicine and also they cut off the electricity in the country. And also another one blockade is the American government against Cuba but the American government also help the Cuban government and economy with by Food exports and tourism. And also in Nicaragua economy is a full with everything like supermarkets,Restaurants and food distribution for the whole country. And also in Venezuela there is a lot of classism and inequality their economy works out with other currencies like the US dollars,Euros,Brazilian Reals and Colombian Pesos. And also there parts of the country that there parts of people that are doing good and the other half of people that are struggling to making means ends. So El Salvador is not a dictatorship the president was elected by the Salvadoran people.
Because he's seizing powers he does not have to change the law and gather more power for himself. Him being popular and destroying the gangs doesn't mean he is not gathering dictatorial powers.
The hate on this man is real for a reason, he is proving that you can productively run a country without political BS... The innocent rights are more important than those who violate the law.
Did you miss the part where he gained the presidency for a second time illegally? Are you aware that he is filthy rich and not doing anything to do redistribute the wealth to the poor but only using the power of the state to crush the poor?
So what, Hitler had also a high approval rating, that doesn't mean you're not a dictator. You are a dictator when you can round up people without due process. That's what makes you a dictator by definition.
@@romanski5811 Round up people without due process. What does round up mean? Please cite what legal due processes he bypassed in order to become the most liked leader in the western hemisphere? Yes, if someone is trying to create a dictatorship it is Biden and the Democratic party. Locking up opponents, silencing any voices against them and calling anyone that has a different opinion ultra-right white supremacists.
We can walk and chew gum at the same time biden critique of el salvador can be right and can can still be a horrible man supporting a genocide in a jewish ethnostate
you are right! he was elected by over 80% of the voters, and in a fair and open election. Its the Free Will of the voters that has put Bukele in office two times.
I don't know if he is or isn't. He calls himself one. Even though there's no such thing as a "cool dictator". Some people who think one sector or another of society is "naturally superior" would probably push such a line. I also know that democracy isn't just about voting. Never was just about voting. People in power adhering to written and agreed upon constitutions is needed. And, probably more so, respecting people's human rights is necessary for democracy. Otherwise it's not democracy.
@@WJKPhDOnce the Nazi party was the most popular party in Germany measured by the votes they received. Had the pleasure of going back to visit last year and it’s like it advanced 80 years since then. What this man has done is incredible. Call him dictator all you want he’s EXACTLY the type of leader many countries need.
You like it or not, El Salvador is now a safe country, safer than the US, that’s a fact. There is a lot of work to do ahead but Bukele is doing a good job and El Salvador just started its rebirth. Many people abroad don’t understand what’s going on in El Salvador. They misjudge and their assessment is so wrong, they don’t know the reality.
How safe is it if someone can lie about you and get you arrested or you are accused of being in a gang for having a tattoo. No hipsters better go near there.
I came back from El Salvador today actually after being there for four days. We rented a truck and it was 9 of of . Mind you , I’m Afro Spanish so I have dark skin. I’m tatted all over . Sat in the truck of the bed and beach shirtless . We drove past the military and police with no problem . We were kind of reckelss though because we were drinking in the back etc etc but we had no problem at all with the authority. El Salvador’s politics are more nuanced than what is visible. These politicians are from the US are just riding the bandwagon of a country they have referred to as “shithole country.” If you don’t understand the societal dynamics in which regular non gang families endured prior to Bukele then keep your ignorant comments to yourself or better yet comment on the politics of your own countries/communities. And yes most Salvadoran people love him except those with family members in prison/or gang members. People couldn’t even stroll peaceful to their local parks etc. in broad daylight without being terrorized by gang members. Where was the news coverage then? Where was all of this attention when hundreds of people were murdered daily?
yes yes yes!!! People love to speak from the comfort of their own home on his "tough on crime" policy. Many were living in constant fear and exploitation, dare i say domestic terr0ism. I can totally understand why the people love him; he's moved more than the ones before him have. However; there are consequences to mass incarceration with limited oversight, and he is being a show pony for the states. I'm afraid it will not intentionally benefit Salvadoran constituents in the long run. Do people forget, the states were responsible for MS13? And a massive supporter/funder of the Salvadoran civil war, which caused mass destruction and senseless k1lling$?!

"Democracy Now!" may I remind you OF YOUR NAME. Calling Bukele's second term unconstitutional is the worst case of malicious compliance I have ever seen. Was the Boston Tea Party unconstitutional? Did the founding fathers act unconstitutional? Was Roosevelt unconstitutionally elected a third time? Which western liberal democracy has a single-consecutive-term-limit?? NONE!! What do you want to happen to the country? Do you want drugs and rapists and gangs to destroy everything in all of South America? Is that what we want or do we want some sort of peace for once, like what does democracy want.
Dictators normally don't get reelected in a free and open election and with such a high approval rating. Clearly El Salvador was in a State of Emergency and when in a state of Emergency extra judicial measures need to be taken. Bukele turned the most dangerous country in the world to the safest in the hemisphere. The criticism is essentially supporting the very same forces that caused the terror. President Bukele is doing the right thing dam the critics
Didn't you know? An elected president is only considered democratically elected if a nation's voters pick the "right candidate". Let that subjectivity sink in.
Soooo what. This channel needs to listen up and see that the United States needs to revisit who is elected. If the President is failing the country then they need to be removed. If a President is widely accepted and proven to take a country into Salvador level success then they need CONTINUED support. The idea this is illegitimate would lead to the country going back to crap. Period. FJB
Roman Greisser has no idea what it was like for the people of El Salvador before President Bukele. He is a hero to all Latin Americans not just Salvadorans. Why don’t those countries that defend the 80,000 prisoners give them amnesty and leave El Salvador and Bukele alone. The constitution has changed so it’s not ilegal. El Salvador lives in peace unlike the USA and Canada.
How dare you call him a dictator from a first world nation a world away when we've done nothing for El Salvador and this man comes in and saves a country in a couple weeks. Yes, it's the criminals who bore the brunt of that - everyone in El Salvador seems fine with that and the US has lost it's way so badly that we think that's somehow not the natural order of things. It's gross, he should be supported and I'm jealous of El Salvador's future as we cowtow to old witches like this woman who tell us they're evil and wrong. What's she done? She's a media personality. I hope the people of El Salvador know what they've got with Bukele. He's a one in a century leader. WE'VE got sniper on rooftops not only for inauguration, but just 24/7 all day every day at the white house. There is a permenantly sniper team stationed at the top. Not to mention they openly have undercover agents working as street vendors nearby. They took certain freedoms, but they actually produced results with it. We know they're tracking everything we do, but we still have crime and attacks on US soil so what's the point???
Don’t hate on the way he had to change things to clean up his country! He’s helping the people there to live without fear of gangs and he wants to get his country back on track for success.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to Fix issues.
I support 100% Bukele.👍

As an American I support Bukele. It’s high time that Central America becomes safe and prosperous. God bless El Slavador.
All these human rights defenders have not lived in El Salvador. It was hell. And where were they when we needed their support when gangs were our neighbors.
They are way too dumb. They don't know that to have human rights you have to have the human first.
Exactly.
They care more about tbe human rights of murderers, rapists, torturers and criminals than they care about the human rights of innocent women, men and children. What about the human rights of mothers and fathers to not have to bury their children bc the gang members would murder innocent people on the streets?

Yes the hypocrisy of "Democracy Now" is appalling. (At first I read your comment the wrong way - not realising you were criticising the organisation...)
Why this people get involved against bukele if they are not even Salvadorias in other words they should mind their own business I’m from a neighbor country right next to El Salvador and travels several times to El Salvador I can say BUKELE IS NOTHING BUT A POSITIVE President this videos against are just making this people look very out of a healthy mindset
People get involved because we are humans and if one section of the globe is moving wrong, the rest will. America made a ripple effect with Trump, the rise of far right politics and it's scary, my family , my friends and even myself and girlfriend, will suffer from these far right policies. So yes we gotta get involved into other counties politics cause I don't want people to suffer. Let's not be ignorant and have a (my bubble) mindset.
the guy cleaned our country and this is what He getS; Things are better now for all of Us under his presidency, PLEASE DO NOT RUIN OUR DISTURB THE PEACE WE ARE ENJOYING!!
👏💕
They want you to join the party and live like us, with homeless drug addicts everywhere and rampant crime.
Enjoy your Peace! Take your kids out for an ice cream in your new paradise! No need to troll political websites when you are in Eden. Enjoy it.
Living under the control of the military, with cameras controlling the country is not different than in Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua! Is this only because the CIA is behind Bukele, called cool dictator?
If he is so great, why the need to overthrow courts or become a dictator? Couldn't he get a president from his political movement elected every time?
We need a Bukele here in America!
You mean in the U.S.? America is a continent.
I certainly wont bother listening to your drone anylonger. You dont recognise true leadership when its in front of your nose!!
Long live President Bureke! May El Salvadore prosper and be a light in their region.
This man's name is going down history. What a president
What does democracy now want for El Salvador? If you call this man, a dictator and you label him as a fascist as somebody that doesn’t care how do you get to that result? What do you want to happen to the country? Do you want drugs and rapists and gangs to destroy everything in all of South America? Is that what we want or do we want some sort of peace for once, like what does democracy want.
Spot on!! The hypocrisy of "Democracy Now" is appalling...
It's is not unconstitutional to serve 2 presidential terms in El Salvador. It was not allowed to serve consecutively.
How dare you slander this President. Your script tells lies.
America needs a President like him.
Could you please give the reasons for the people of El Salvador overwhelmingly supports their president?
I want to vacation there now💕
OMG Dolly! You must! Do you have instagram? You could become an Influencer! Keep us posted ✌️
I thought democracy was by the people and for the people. How is the people’s will a dictatorship
Didn't you know? An elected president is only considered democratically elected if a nation's voters pick the "right candidate". Let that subjectivity sink in.
@@CestLePandabs it’s a selection
You gotta remember even Hitler was democratictly appointed
@@ramiroespinoza9900 so your saying because hitler was democratically appointed that means bukele has to be a dictator
@@ramiroespinoza9900you’re comparing bukele to Hitler?
Can he be called a dictator with 80% popular support and a clean election?
So if you don’t have popular support you become a dictator.
Soooo what. This channel needs to listen up and see that the United States needs to revisit who is elected. If the President is failing the country then they need to be removed. If a President is widely accepted and proven to take a country into Salvador level success then they need CONTINUED support. The idea this is illegitimate would lead to the country going back to crap. Period.
FJB
Fully agree with you... Demo Now is utterly hypocritical...
This one sided report against a hero according to the citizens of his country is going to be bad for the reputation for this channel.
We Salvadorans can’t be more proud and happy about our president regardless of what LIARS like this channel say
BUKELE 100%
Roman Greisser has no idea what it was like for the people of El Salvador before President Bukele. He is a hero to all Latin Americans not just Salvadorans. Who cares if Trumps son was there, maybe it’s time to look past political sides and look at what the person in charge is doing for their people.
These reporters who accuse Bukele should be forced to live in a country ruled by the gangs for at least one year.
Why don’t those countries that defend the 80,000 prisoners give them amnesty and leave El Salvador and Bukele alone. The constitution has changed so it’s not ilegal. El Salvador lives in peace unlike the USA and Canada.
I live in England and I can honestly say I wished this man was running my country a very good we need more
People are worried because he is also going for the high ups corruption. This idea will spread.
A lot of Dictators start off as heroes and actually do a lot of good but power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Bukele is the best President in the world. We need someone like President Bukele in the United States.
Gang members have controlled vet Nation for years.... I approve of his measures to bring his Nation safety
I love how bukele is running El Salvador he has made el Salvador from crime capital to a tourist place I love to come to el Salvador
You are so full yourself @DemocracyNow, we need more presidents like Bukele. We need a Bukele for Honduras to clean the country
Don’t hate on the way he had to change things to clean up his country! He’s helping the people there to live without fear of gangs and he wants to get his country back on track for success.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to Fix issues. I strongly condemn human rights activist and journalists who cry human rights for gang members while they forget how many innocents they have killed while El Salvador continued to become the murder capital of the world. You cant sing kumbaya and think things are gonna work out. Thats why US is going down the drain... Lack of leadership and letting ppl getaway with shoplifting and other petty crimes.
God bless this man
The ideology wins on this channel. How would you have solved the dire circumstances this country was going through ?? You don’t live there , you haven’t gone through what these people have , stop!!
IF HIM BEING IN POWER IS WRONG, THEN I DONT WANNA BE RIGHT!
D*** A**😂
Love all the comments. We are not falling for it anymore. I feel bad for all people brainwashed enough to agree with this reporting. Long live Bukele!!! 🇺🇸
I’m from a rural area believe nothing they say bukele is loved
CIA implants meeting in elSalvador.
What does that mean?
@@annakaye1629brought seeds for raised gardens/
@Speciation The CIA funded the Civil War on the side of the Right Wing Military. 1000s tortured and slain. The FMLN was once for the people, but has since been corrupted by the NARCOS who run the street gangs.
Yessss!
He might get that Clinton special
🇸🇻 El Salvador has improved under Bukele's leadership. Gangs no longer terrorize Salvadorans thanks to his efforts alongside congress. Overcoming significant challenges, he has led a positive transformation. Viva Bukele
he said where are the human right for the family who got their son murder daughter rape or beating, no one was there to help. even he said if you want to proctect them come and take it we give it to you 10-1
Democracy now, seems to not have a clue what democracy is???
It’s sad that they protect gangs
Even though this media channel tries painting a negative scenario amidst the ongoing progression governing of El Salvador, the outcome of this "Dictator" (according to this channel) governing this country, has had a positive outcome on many areas. Kudos to the leadership helping this country advance.
Why don’t you do a report on Haiti ! Leave El Salvador alone the people are happy with Bukele
VIVAAAAAAA BUKELE 🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻
The people from El Salvador are very happy🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nothing controversial about him, we need him in Los Angeles and Chicago.
This man is a miracle worker. Don't listen to only this report and do your own research.
