BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subiect to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.

      @rogerwheelers4322 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

It's interesting to learn more about the discussions and proposals around BRICS nations and their potential use of gold. There are several reasons why people may choose to buy gold, including its historical use as a store of value and means of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Additionally, gold can offer diversification benefits to investment portfolios, as it tends to have a low correlation with other asset classes like stocks and bonds. However, it's important to note that investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for evervone. and investors should carefully consider their investment objectives, risk tolerance, and financial situation before making any decisions.

That’s NOT the fault of Global South countries and societies, it’s the fault of western colonialism that IMPOVERISHED global south countries, and they are making up lost times to get ahead.
You wonder why so many countries are interested in joining BRICS, they are tired of western arrogance, western hypocrisy, western supremacy, western hegemony, led by U.S. global hegemony choke holding global south countries to have equal chance to develop to wealthy stable countries. Everyone on earth DESERVES to live a better life with equal opportunity and hardworking.

Yes, the collective west exploits the global south and keeps them down developmentally and technologically, then blames them for greater emissions. Typical western imperialist thinking that blames its victims. Putin addressed this in the presser, adding that the exploitative 'loans' the collective west offers to poor countries don't help them develop and increase different technologies nor can they be paid back. This is a new tool for continuing colonialism.

Patrick Bond is wrong. Simply wrong.
First, he claims that "51% of global emissions come from these 10 [BRICS] countries". That's absurd. He knows that CO2 accumulates in the atmosphere and remains for 300-1000 years, so it's dishonest to blame the recently developing south for effects that come from accrued CO2 from the 100's years of industrialization in the West. It's the accrued balance sheet that matters, not the daily journal [of expenses]. It's your total debt that matters, not your daily credit card expenses. So when he talks of "51% of emissions", he's giving you only a snapshot of the current moment and wants to make you think that is the whole picture, the entire history. He wants you to focus only the now, and ignore history: ignore reality.
Same thing with his "sub-imperial claim" that DN! tries to sell every chance it gets. Imperialism is a historical process. Bond (and DN!) want you give you a snapshot to make you think BRICS are imperialist, too. To wit: "BRICS are part of a supply chain that produces goods for the Imperialist Global North, so they must be imperialist subcontractors. They are all imperialist--hence a plague on all their houses." Wrong. The BRICS conduct commerce with the North, but they are not imperialist. Are they capitalist? Some are more, some are less. They vary in their systems, but they are not imperialist towards each other, and they are the best chance of a creating an anti-capitalist system through sovereign socialism--something that the imperial north has always thwarted. They are fundamentally subverting the system of western imperial domination, and that is what Bond can't stand.

The U.S. has several options to address the rise of BRICS and preserve its global influence:
    1. **Strengthen Alliances**: The U.S. can reinforce existing alliances with key partners (NATO, G7, EU, Indo-Pacific allies) to present a unified stance on global issues and counterbalance BRICS influence. Developing deeper ties in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia-regions where BRICS has expanded-could reduce BRICS's appeal.
    2. **Reform Global Institutions**: By pushing for meaningful reforms in institutions like the IMF, World Bank, and UN, the U.S. could address the criticism that these bodies favor Western interests. More inclusive policies could keep countries from turning to BRICS as an alternative and build goodwill in the Global South.
    3. **Engage in Economic Diplomacy**: As BRICS nations work to de-dollarize, the U.S. should promote trade deals and financial partnerships that emphasize the dollar’s role in global transactions while offering mutually beneficial terms to partner nations. Trade deals that prioritize economic growth, technology transfer, and infrastructure could increase U.S. appeal.
    4. **Address Domestic Competitiveness**: Domestically, focusing on technological innovation, manufacturing, and clean energy production can keep the U.S. competitive. Reducing dependence on BRICS countries for critical resources (like rare earth minerals and energy) will safeguard the U.S. economy against disruptions.
    5. **Pursue Environmental Leadership**: With BRICS’s high emissions, the U.S. can lead in setting international environmental standards and pushing for climate initiatives that emphasize sustainable development. Taking the lead on global climate solutions can attract partnerships with countries looking to address climate change seriously.
    6. **Promote the Dollar’s Stability**: To counter BRICS’s de-dollarization, the U.S. can work with other economies to keep the dollar as the reliable global currency. Transparent policies and financial stability measures could help maintain the dollar’s dominance, despite BRICS’s push for alternatives.
    7. **Engage in Direct Dialogue with BRICS Members**: Diplomatic efforts aimed at fostering collaboration with certain BRICS members, especially India and Brazil, could prevent a complete polarization. By finding areas of shared interest, such as counterterrorism, trade, or climate initiatives, the U.S. could ensure that BRICS isn’t an entirely oppositional force.
    8. **Invest in Technology and Innovation**: High-tech advancements, AI, and clean energy are crucial to future global influence. By leading in these areas, the U.S. can set the standards for emerging technologies, ensuring a competitive edge and enticing global partnerships.
If the U.S. recognizes BRICS’s rise as a chance to adapt and innovate, it could strengthen its global position rather than attempting to preserve an outdated status quo.

When the US disinterest in maintaining globalization eventually gets to the point of saying bye-bye, you're going to be dealing with these three and many others without the structure and rules you now take for granted. May you have interesting times. US will be watching from its prosperous sidelines, passing the popcorn.

No empire lasts forever! Despite this, Brazil has never been an enemy of the Americans, on the contrary, it has always been an ally, but the American governments have always seen Brazil as a mere servant. That's why BRICS wants its part in the world, these countries want respect and their place in the world.
The American people must learn that all people are important, including the "First Nations" of the USA. It's time to learn that there are other countries outside your borders.
