1 and 1 quarter centimetres has to be my favourite thing I've heard for a while
Lol
I ended up backing off my setting a bit more, so i ended up with less than 1/8 of a turn on each side to get my wheel perfect.
I just had my wheels aligned at the VW dealer and they didn`t aligned my steering wheel. My car tires are aligned but not my steering wheel. I called the dealer and the guy told me that it was tricky moving the tie rods around.......so I asked him if the wheel alignment on my car was complete then. He then said to bring in the car on Tuesday...... I guess his answer was no. I thought the dealer mechanics were "the best" because they`re ASE certified. Buncha b.s. if you ask me.
They're the worst
I failed a claim with my bank and got my money back. North Carolina.
Bro my mk6 R is pissing me off so bad because of this thank you for letting me know it’s not just me haha
sure
If you have the same tires in the front, what you can do is take measurements of the distance between the front and back of the tire from the center of the tire with a tape measure. If you know what I mean, both measurements should be about the same. ex. Front and Rear are 58.3inches. Not too hard.
hey I stumbled upon your videos while researching the p3cars gauge. Great info! I noticed after a couple videos, you removed the p3 gauge. What was the reason for removal? Is there anything about the gauge that you didnt like besides the glare? Im thinking about purchasing it. sry if this was discussed in another video already.
Great info! Thx for sharing the video.
sure bro
Oh man, I'm glad to hear this isn't just an issue for me! What's the deal with this? I complained to the dealer when I got it. They did some work but never really fixed it, and it was pretty obvious driving down the road with the wheel cocked to the left. And it wouldn't have been torque steer, as it was clear even just rolling in neutral.
One thing I did notice was that this issue almost completely went away when I swapped for some harder performance tires. I can't quite figure out why. Just more rigid sidewalls keeping everything straight? Thoughts?
after many GTI's and this issue, the final outcome is you just need someone to do a proper alignment. there is no magic to it. but, if your subframe is shifting, your steering wheel could change from time to time. check my "tyrolsport collars" video.
I`m taking my GTI to the VW dealer tomorrow for a wheel alignment.
How'd that go?
have the same issue. the steering wheel always trends to the left to keep my car straight. no way to fix.
Hi there, I'm having this exact problem with my MKV GTI. I used my VAG-COM and from center position my wheel can turn 6 degrees more when in full lock to the right compared to full lock to the left. Does this mean my LEFT tie rod is "longer" than the right, or vice versa? I would think longer because if my wheel is totally straight, the car goes slightly right. I don't have a pull at all, just a crooked wheel. Thanks!
I know this is an old video, but it's one of the best I found on this topic.
My 2011 VW GTI has the same issue. My first instinct was to remove the steering wheel itself, rotate it slightly, and then put it back. Maybe it's a really stupid idea, because I haven't seen anyone mention it.
the reason is.. one tooth is generally between 1-2" range at top of steering wheel. and most people arent off that much.
You had a bad alignment not a crooked steering wheel lmao
Hey need some help/ advice with mk7 R which I'm assuming is likely same steps to correct wheel. Ive seen videos with other cars / jeeps and it's so easy to do and they do nothing with disconnecting the left and right but just loosen some bolts and turn the connecting bar that moves the wheel where needed. These steps you do here I'm not comfortable to DIY. I paid for an alignment this past week at dealer and may need to go back to have done again. Do you think my camber plates added are making it more susceptible to getting out of alignment? Really wish I could fix it myself. Enjoy your videos... thx man
ya it is a pain fixing GTI alignment
I know its been years since u made this video. But do you remember which direction to loosen the locking nut on the passenger side? I cannot get it to budge.
naw.. i don't remember if those are reverse thread or not.
Where's your P3cars multi function meter?
sold.
You have the loose counter nut and still wondering which way to turn?
Thanks for watching Kojak!
Dealers charge an arm and a leg to get this done.
naw, just like a clean looking car. as stock as possible. plus theres something special about a sweeping needle, digital just wasnt the same.
LastHumansGarage Hello, I have the exact same issue on my Audi A3 Sportback so are you saying that you fixed that with the tire roads adjust and now your steering is straight??
How do dealers get this done......they must have a computer system of some sort, right?
how do you adjust front camber?
you don't......
well... you buy aftermarket top hats with camber adjustment..
LastHumansGarage bunmer , I just bought one with 15,000 miles on it , it did show a light hit on the right rim and strong camber issue / do you think the camber could be fixed changing the steering knuckle?
@@ojoaereo241 u move the subframe side to side to adjust camber
Will this cause uneven tire wear or alignment problems?
not if you do it right. but it will never be 100% perfect. then again, an alignment shop will never get it 100% perfect either.
crooked wheels are the worst. i drive an 18 wheeler and 99% of them are off center to the point they face as bad at 4 oclock to the right!
i hate crooked wheels. my wrx is perfect for a long time now. my GTI one was ALWAYS off.
you said this happens to A LOT of vw owners . WHY ??? I have a brand new 2017 gli and the very 1st day I drove off the car lot the steering was off to the left. I hate it!
cuz VW tries to set the wheel for road crown which is stupid.
i'm going to complain today when i go in . wtf!!!!! why must they be such retards!!!
so please help me out. when i go in today , just tell them to adjust both front tie rods? correct? i'm so sick of german cars.
none. this DIY has nothing to do with correcting a pull, and should not be attempted.
Everyone! before some of you think that your car is broken for having this problem (steering wheel off center) I have read and heard from different sources that VW does this on purpose so you are "forced" to keep your hands on the steering wheel.
Just FYI.
Bobby Gecko Holy crap are you for real? Its like a de ja vu, I jokingly said that to my friend when she saw me awkwardly holding the steering wheel. Since I don't have the money to do the alignment any time soon, I said the car is configured that way on purpose... If thats the fact than VW has taken it too far...
Right. 'It's not broken, it's a design feature'. It's a design flaw, if anything.
Umm...no.
