Agreed - The average viewer has never driven a car on track - Sam shows us car enthusiast side that relates to most people watching youtube. At least we can all go get a good cup of coffee.
@@VinRom19 Exhaust note ? I get its a hybrid but its still a Ferrari. The Ferrari 348 is the single Biggest Bang for the Buck in Ferrari and exotic sports cars. Wait till you have an electrical gremlin with the 296. In Ferrari sports cars. consensus says the 355 is the greatest sports car Ferrari ever made. But Less is More with the completely analog 348 as it doesn’t have the brass valve guide and/or electronic suspension issues the 355 has. Older is Easier as the 348 is the best “purely analog” Ferrari ever made according to Hoovies Garage, the Smoking Tire, Jay Emm, etc as the 348 comes without modern day features that actually detract from the experience of driving a Ferrari. Why drive a “fast” car “slow” when you can drive a slower car fast? Lastly, the 348’s 8,500 rpm flat plane crank redline has the Formula 1 exhaust note of any Ferrari as F1 cars also use flat plane cranks to lower the F1’s center of gravity. Every car has an exhaust note-why isn’t anyone commenting on the lack of a distinctive exhaust note on the 296?
I agree to everything you say. This is the content we’re waiting for. Honestly ! Shmee for the numbers, Carfection for the over the top cinematography and journalistic point of view & Seen Through Glass for the passion and the story (as well a great cinematography)

At your feelings of intimidation: you did YOUR thing.
It was smart that you didn’t fight for first upload the way carfection, top gear, and basically everyone else in the world did.
You took your time the way I hope you were able to take your time at the launch. so now, although I know most of the specs from other videos, I can relax and take my time here at the top of the morning to watch you enjoy your coffee (as weird as that sounds) and your go at the 296 the way that only you can. 👍
A great shout to stay away from the embargo and do your own thing, so much more refreshing than the midnight content churn of everyone else 👍

Your style of content, laid back feel & non journalistic background are exactly the reason Ferrari need to keep inviting you to these launches. It offers us a unique perspective on the car not saturated with performance stats and figures. Incredible video!

Agree! Just worry about your production values, you deserve to be there.
Sam's not alone in having developed the skills to produce a high quality video, yet I still feel he's let himself down here. While he surely shouldn't worry so much about what others are doing, as if all those so-called professional journalists are all so good to watch. Maybe they're better in print.
Anyway, it must be remembered that he is invited on these launches to do a job for Ferrari. There's no way around that fact. And I'd be surprised if they're not questioning whether or not to invite him again after this video, more involving a car than about a car. And with himself saying he's not a professional journalist so much.
Ferrari is well-known to have a very thin skin when it comes to criticism, and Sam even questioned the styling. And on top of that whether a journalist or influencer, I question whether anyone is going to plunk down a deposit after watching this video.
The only saving grace I can see is that none of the other videos I've watched have been full reviews. None discussed the interior, other than maybe saying the seats are uncomfortable. For some reason, all of the long-awaited 296 reviews have fallen short.
But we must understand that Sam has got to be seen to do a job for Ferrari or his invites will stop. He's not there to do a travel vlog or a coffee ad. And I don't see the Seville travel board or Nespresso or such like being impressed by the video, either.
Style over function just doesn't cut it, at least IMO.
That said, it was a very pleasant video, and the 20 mins sailed by, which is unusual for me, because I often struggle with videos as they go past 10 mins, and start looking at the time after 15, so there's that positive aspect.
So, for me, it was an enjoyable watch, but ultimately a fail.
Nonetheless, I gave it a thumbs up. Hopefully, Ferrari will give Sam another chance.
@@nigel.w fair but Sam has never purported to be an out and out auto critic like say, Jayemm. I agree I haven't been that impressed with other 296 reviews. We wonder that Ferrari control the situation more than is transparent.

Carfection is a phenomenal channel but don’t sell yourself short, your channel is also great, refreshing and a perfect mix of review and vlog, I appreciate it
Henry Catchpole seems a nice guy and seems to know his stuff, yet I don't find his videos that easy to watch.
@@nigel.w because they get under the skin and technical with the cars. Autocar, Evo etc. Find myself paying more attention, which is great.
Thank you for letting out the emotions we hope all of these automotive youtubers feel. I'm happy that you always let the little kid out. None of us would drive one of these with a straight face thinking about all the stats.

The cinematography and music creates a vibe only STG can deliver. It’s a more soft and organic approach. No numbers, no testing or analysis. Just feel. Combined with interesting and tasteful cars, including the newest models, it seems STG has carved out its own niche. Maybe that’s why you were invited?
You’re starting to get your just rewards for your years of grinding at it.

Hi Sam - I put an order in for a 296GTB almost 6 months ago - I have excitedly been waiting for the reviews and test reports to start filtering through in the British motoring press and I can say with absolute conviction that your review has genuinely added to the pleasure of waiting, planning and eventually speccing (my car is due in early May 2023) my Ferrari. Ferrari seem to be going all in on retro and celebrating their past, with all their new stuff the past few years, even this year’s F1 car looks like it came straight from the 90s. The 296 fills me with so much joy, charismatic V6, can cruise comfortably and a retro body style. I may have just found my new favourite Ferrari! I’ve told this to all my friends, THIS is the car that’s gonna make all of you old-school petrolheads fall in love with modern day supercars again. It’s a SMILE machine, not a numbers machine, that’s why I’m so excited for this little beast! I’m finally gonna feel I belong in the community!
Your content is specifically the reason why your community is continuing to grow, when we watch those guys for all the real nitty gritty then that's more their thing and what their known for, and if you get what I mean you're becoming known for making slightly more refreshing relatable content (even though it can still be quite unrealistic for some) that is amazing to look at. I can't take my eyes off the footage like I can with other creators because the niche of the 'review/test drive/vlog' is YOUR OWN way of making the most of the opportunities you've been given, is what we come here for. Anyway awesome video as usual, Keep up the hard work Sam!
Thanks for the fresh take on a car launch, it’s nice to watch a video with personality and genuine reactions to a special event. Keep doing it your way, don’t feel like you have to follow (and I’m sure you don’t!) how others structure their content, the more down to earth approach works just fine.

Always looking forward to your videos the most. I think the aspect that I love is that its a little less about the technical stuff and more about how the car makes you 'feel' - definitely easier to relate to. Travel vlogs is a huge plus too!

It just appears to similar in design to the lotus emira for me. I also struggle with the whole V6 issue. I appreciate this is where the industry as a whole is heading but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Love your content Sam and the style in which you deliver it. It’s like an excited friend telling you a story rather than a robotic statistician reeling off numbers sycophantically.

The difference between the motoring press videos and your own is the that you are a real Ferrari nut and your enthusiasm for the chance to drive the newest from the brand gives a different perspective on the car rather than the journalistic direction. Never doubt that we all appreciate the content you create.

Your videos stand apart and on their own merits: a regular Joe who can appreciate these cars like the rest of us regular Joe's, albeit accompanied by amazing cinematography! For me, this type of content is more enjoyable than just a regular review of the spec numbers that I can search on the web
I love how you just do what you want. Sure, you don’t tell all the stats, but you tell a story, which is sooooooo much more fun. I can’t remember any video of yours (and I’ve pretty much watched all of them, including the podcasts) in which I missed stats or a real review, because ALL of your videos are awesome because of these stories.
The quality and production level of your videos is unmatched. Not even counting the fact that you film them yourself.

This is the only 296 GTB drive video I have watched, so you Sam are doing something very right. You definitely belong there alongside all the other automotive media stars. No need to compare your work to their work.
I have to say I enjoyed the track driving element of the video! You should do more. Sometimes it’s nice to watch a mere mortal drive something round a track so we know what fun we could have behind the wheel. As much as I love watching Chris Harris et al on track, I know that I can’t drive like he can. So don’t worry about comparing yourself to those channels, we don’t. 👏
On the contrary Sam, I’ve ignored all other reviews as I know they’ll be very technical and review-y. I know with you I get a story and a more real and enjoyable experience watching your video, so you definitely have a USP! You don’t have to be journalistic, as you are journalistic in your current style.
