This is one of my favorite movies. It stayed in rotation in my household. My favorite scene is when Celie stood up to Mister & put up those two fingers. Fun Fact: Robert Townsend auditioned for the role of Harpo.

Dude I just watched this for the first time and had a total break down by the time the movie ended. my tears would not dry up I was crying for more than half the movie for sure . Definitely my favorite movie hands down now knocked mean girls tf out first place

But its based off a book and it was agreed upon so I do not see an issue since they did not sugar coat shit . Very closely done too. It was one of the required readings when I was in late middle school. It was... tough seeing it acted out. At this point it was almost always white people against black people slavery stuff but nothing really depicted rural shit between black folks especially black women. He nailed the emotional shit. My grandma had talked to me about her growing up after we watched it together last year and it is sad knowing how common this was.
