There is just a ton of them out there and a handful of people have even made crack compilations of The Untamed. One of my favorite ones is where much of the Juniors had the sound of ducklings, because it's a reminder to me of how they all started to follow Wei Ying like actual ducklings to their mother!
I read MDZS first out of the 3 so I love it the most but SVSSS definitely deserves so much more love. It seems like it's always treated like the redheaded step child. (No Offense Kictor) 😅❤

I love MXTX’s novels so much, my favorite being MDZS. However in my art class, someone painted Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian as bunnies and it only realized it because the white bunny has Lan Zhan forehead ribbon and the black bunny and Wei Wuxian red hair ribbion!

I read TCGF first and that was what made me involve in the genre but was soon addicted to mdzs and erha. Svss deserves more love tho, the plot holes can be confusing but cmon, it's a good book

Heyy Kictor I have recently found a very new danmei drama that I really recommend to you: The Spirealm 致命游戏. It is adapted from the novel Kaleidoscope of Death, by my second favourite danmei author Xi Zi Xu (we all know who the first is). It is the best horror/survival game Danmei novel in my opinion. The drama is so gay that it only survived on the Chinese Internet for 2 hours, and it is really high quality and good acting with hot boys!!! If you can find a way to watch it somewhere with English subtitles you will be ✨impressed✨

I have spent YEARS carefully preparing my mother for The Untamed. She was a homophobe so I had to condition her very very slowly. Even before The Untamed, I knew a day would come where a true masterpiece would deserve to be witnessed by her in its true glory without me hiding behind the "oh xie lian is a girl", "oh they are like brothers in a soulmatey way"s. And tbh The Untamed is too good to be dismissed just because of the BL. It took years, I watched The Untamed pretty soon after it came out but took me till now to make her watch it.
I started very slowly and carefully because I knew anything more and she would just withdraw. Man, it took patience. I started by telling her BL stories I had read/ watched but without the BL. Then proceeded to narrating stories but by making the BL hetero(🤮). Then I would tell her variations of the same story from some really good fanfics with gay subtext. Then stories with important gay side characters. Opened conversations about the gays in general, educated her about the queers. Lol I remember at one point she was like 'is that all you think about?' and I had to backpeddle because I was being too obvious. So I tirelessly kept telling her heterofied homo stories. Then stories with 'vague' relationship between main male pairs. When I had normalized the gays enough, I told her I am into gay shit and I love that. That was risky because after that even slightest suggestion of the gays made her stop me because she didnt want to hear me ranting about the gays but boi was I committed. Before the untamed, I had a goal of making her watch Yuri On Ice. And guys, it was difficult, she was not into Asian stuff, she was not into anime/animation, she was not into sports and absolutely not into the gays. So I proceeded to show her gay fanart stuff but drawn in ambiguous ways so that you couldn't be quite sure if its two gals, guys or heteros, I'd go 'oh, look such a cute art' and she'd go like 'yeah, cute, the girl is pretty' or sumn and then I pretended to read comments and say, 'oh, it says that they are both guys' and she'd make a weirded out face lol. Later it got to the point I would just show her cute gay art and guilt trip her if she said or thought anything slightly homophobic or heteronormative. Then at some point, even if I showed her cute straight art, she'd go, "fine but pretty gay" because guys, she was expecting the gays at that point. Then I simply started telling her sad gay stories where homophobia was the villain so that she would feel bad lmao. I showed her drag queens, pride parade stuff, informed her about the whole spectrum of sexuality, yknow the in and out of queerness. Then I revealed that all those times I told her straight stories, none of them were and how neck deep into gays I was when I acted like I wasn't. While she was tolerating all that, I knew deep down the homophobia was still thriving. She was just used to my 'weirdness'.
Then one fateful day, she was hanging around in my room knitting of something and I was on my computer and I just went, "that's it, this is the golden opportunity" in my head and told her to watch this cute little anime and made her watch Yuri On Ice. Although I had to skip some stuff to not overwhelm her to the point that she left midway, she didn't! She sat through the whole show way past midnight, watched two guys being wholesome and engaged and so in love. I was SHOCKED and she LIKED it. I was amazed because I expected it to fail, for her to leave midway, for her to not like it and never try anything on my request. That was my first big win. Afterwards, I just showed her more queer stuff, sometimes she didn't watch the whole thing, sometimes the story was genuinely boring. But good queer media was hard to find anyway so it was a task. Then came The Untamed. And I KNEW I needed her to truly appreciate it without buying into the sworn brother bullshit. And she wasn't big into Chinese media either (there was also a bit of racism? xenophobia? there too i guess but nothing as deeply rooted as homophobia). I started by babbling on and on about kpop, getting her used to the Asian faces, y'know, so that she wouldn't go 'they all look the same, I ain't watching that'. I wanted to make her feel EMOTIONS for the Koreans lmao (plus I was also big into BTS so I was feeling big emotions too). Fatefully, this one channel on TV started broadcasting international dramas and she watched DOTS and was a fan. I saw an opportunity and knew she could get behind that. She started with kdramas and I wasn't even into kdramas if im honest, im not even into chinese dramas, I am just into MXTX, danmei and good angsty gay stuff. Sometimes I'd purposefully show her over the top gay shows which I knew she'd quit halfway just so that she wouldn't mind the slightly gay stuff of the actual media I aimed to show.
Anyway fast forward, I knew she was ready for the Untamed, all I needed now was to make her get through the initial few episodes so that she wouldn't quit after being confused by the cultivations stuff, sect politics stuff, 3 whole names for single person stuff. I educated her beforehand. And finally finally started the show, she was a bit confused, unmotivated, in the first 2-3 episodes, tried to quit but I was adamant, ready to jump in at the slightest show of disinterest and confusion and then the rest is history. She LOVED it. Guys, I won. Y'know that Taylor Swift song called mastermind, yeah I felt like that. I told her about the gay stuff that happened that was censored out and she was mostly unphased and kept enjoying that show. "Lwj kissed wwx blindfolded in that episode!" "Okay." "He confessed in the burial mounds" "okay" "they broke a bathtub" "okay". Guys, I was overjoyed haha. How far she's come, I am so proud lmao. And now she's looked far and wide to watch similar stuff, she's settling for straight wuxia/xianxia stuff because let's be honest, there is nothing like The Untamed. WOH, I haven't finished yet so I'll make her watch it if I like it. As much as a danmei/ BL fan I am, i have strict policy of indulging on quality content, I wouldn't go watch or recommend Junjou Romantica because I don't think stuff like that actually represents queerness in all its beauty and complexity. Plus I need good angsty plot more than anything. So yeah, I know nobody's gonna read this but I am just excited because she watched The Untamed only recently, and I hand't had the chance to tell anyone how much work I had actually put into making her watch it. I can't say she's totally cured of homophobia but she's at a much better place where i can gush about the gays without her judging me and actually being interested.I love enjoying media and I love enjoying media WITH someone, so my mom was it, and she was a challenge and I love challenges. And I don't have worthy friends lol. A couple friends I know have watched it but they aren't enthusiastic enough.
TLDR I made my homophobic mom watch The Untamed in all its queerness by meticulously conditioning her for years.
That is the most dedication I have ever seen! I applaud you!

MDZS definitely got me hooked to danmei in general & it used to be my EVERYTHING (Lan Zhan is still my BABY & I have the adorable rabbits as well), but there's never enough food for me because I'm a bottomji truther and we are few and far between it seems. XD
