I went to see Storyville at Grant Street Dance Hall, I saw Sonny leaning against the wall checking out the band, I went and started talking telling him I was a big fan, he was so nice and humble, he signed a napkin for me and it still sits on my turntable in a frame!!!
But he's from Louisiana. Lives in Breaux Bridge, about halfway between the Atchafalaya Swamp and Lafayette. Back in the early 70s, he lived in Boulder and gave a group lesson on playing slide. I was so embarrassed to have joined the class because I didn't realize how I'd be thousands of feet out of my depth, but he was really nice and I loved listening. A couple of years later, I saw him back in Lafayette, and he was so nice and he might have even remembered me (probably for my ineptitude) but was kind anyway.
Saw him two years ago with Hiatt at Blues Peer. Didn't know him yet, but holy hell. First notes, he played blew me away. Somehow managed to sound loud as all hell, without taking anything away from John. Amazing combination.
You remind me of John can't remember th3 cat's name....doesn't look like a bluesman, but he sure is a good one.....charlie mussel white, little Milton, and Elvin bishop, myself on keys....and unfortunately levon has crossed to the biggest stage,I ask Johnny sandlin, cus we gotta have dickey too....let u know the date....
He has created his own style, which is good enough for Eric Clapton who asks him to come play with him and play on Crossroads too. This is definitely blues plus.
Sonny is one of the best! Never any pretense with him, just does his thing.
Gods bless the video director who keeps the camera on Sonny's hands so much.
We _know_ he's going to nail the slide playing, but this track has absolutely great vocals too.
Listened to this hundreds of times. One of the most talented blues slide guitarist in the world.Absolutely love it.
This right here is music you FEEL. Wow. Thank you!
Wonderful and soulful….☮️🎶🔛🌎

I'd place him up there as one of the best. He's the real deal
Brilliant. I can't believe this hasn't been seen by more people. This musician is a treasure. Grateful for having found that.
Pure 1000% magic.
This man has been baptized in the blues and is musical to the core! Love his collaborations with Mark Knophler

The word 'dextrous' does not cover it! Phenomenal.
❤
la mera elegancia!!!!
Saw him W/ John Hiatt last evening....nuff said.
Saw them last night in Albany, NY. Simply amazing!
I saw him with John Hiatt at the Masonic in SF. Great show, but the worst audio mix I have ever heard in 50 years of concerts.
Saw him two years ago with Hiatt at Blues Peer. Didn't know him yet, but holy hell. First notes, he played blew me away. Somehow managed to sound loud as all hell, without taking anything away from John. Amazing combination.
WOW!
Nailed it
💜💜
Louisiana Treasure 👍
and he's got some great whiskey going on with his voice too....
Well, that was good. And by good I mean great.
MISTER SLIDE
I didn't know Arnold Hawshack could play slide..
tabs anyone?? ;-)
Ry Cooder and Sonny are not given credit due for the great slide guitar players that they are.

Mangiacake
Too much sophisticated.
The voice is good, but guitar playing is different from the blues.....
So what is this, Mr Beato?
He has created his own style, which is good enough for Eric Clapton who asks him to come play with him and play on Crossroads too. This is definitely blues plus.
