  • Here is my choice for the best three motorcycles you can own if you're going to have three. The BMW R18 Classic, the Harley Davidson 1250S Pan America Special, and the Royal Enfield INT650. Do you have a better three?

Q, I would' nt consider my current 3 bikes better choices than yours. Rather they are the 3 that fit my riding needs at this time.
    1. Big- for long haul, moutainous twisty road tours and some commuting. 2022 Pan America Special. I absolutely love this machine. Much more comfortable than my Road Glide ever was. Thats why the Road Glide is gone.
    2. Why my PAS will never go off road. 2003 KLR 650. Its my second KLR thaf I have owned. I absolutely love this bike for running fire roads and off and road touring/camping. Will always have one these in my posession.
    3. My everyday commuter/ back road blaster 2007 Sportster 1200. Stripped down to a solo swat minimalist machine with some light performance work and improved suspension it is an absolute blast on our many twisty mountain roads in Pa. I never come home from work the same way back to back. Depending on how long I have to get home it is sometimes an hour to two hours thru the mountains on 6 different routes that I can go. It aint no Ninja but it is mucho fun.
At one time I had 5 different bikes but at 67 years of age maybe I am slowing down a little. LOL

Nice! I hope you enjoy it. Of the three I have, if I had to go to one, it would be the R18.

We demo rode both the BMW R18 Transcontinental and the HD 1250 PanAmerica.
My assessment of the BMW was it has 2 flaws. 1. It is geared to slow in the top gear which causes to much vibration at anything above 70 MPH. It needs gearing to run 80 MPH at 2500 RPM. 2. The heal/toe shifter was cumbersome to work for my size 13 boot.
As for the PanAmerica it was a beast to ride. Power was great, handled well, and had a great sound. What I didn’t like was the seat comfort and how the gas tank seemed to wide at the rear of the tank.
I had been looking for an adventure bike and found a very low mile 2016 Triumph 1200 Explorer XRT worth the money. What I found after bringing it home is the handlebar is too low and too far forward and I start hurt after 50 miles. 100 miles and I’m done. I’m currently looking into a bar riser so I can sit erect. I guess I’m spoiled as our main bike is a 2012 Goldwing, and I can ride it 700-800 miles in a day before I get sore.
With that said, my three motorcycles to own would be the Goldwing, Triumph Rocket 3 GT, and Honda CRF300 Rally. 😮

I like those choices! I have bar risers on the Pan America and there is a trick where you can cut off a bit of the rear stays to flatten the seat out a bit. Those make it pretty comfortable but not Goldwing comfortable! The CRF300 is a great choice, one I’ve been thinking about. My viewers have some great lists!

I have R18B and love it!, so that is number 1. 2- Pan Am, 3 Ural with a side car. I have always wanted a side car.

Ha! The Ural! I love it! I just can’t buy any bike that is topping out at 70 miles an hour. The speed limits around here are too high.

i,d go with a goldwing, pan american and the harley lowrider st.. have a road glide ultra currently and its been pretty darn good

That is a good list. I owned the second generation Valkyrie with the flat six so I have some familiarity with the platform, but yeah, to tour the country in comfort the Goldwing is the choice. And lately I’ve had that itch to own some kind Harley old school V-twin, and the Lowrider ST has rave reviews. Thanks.

I have an 07 Victory Vegas 8 Ball that I love... am strongly considering a Pan America but concerned about the issues people have been having!

I would tell you absolutely to get one. I might avoid a 2021, but 2022 or 2023, yes. With the help of a few TH-cam videos (not mine so much) you can find the detailed info how to quickly clear any error messages. And, as I've done, you learn how to get on the bike and start it without any issues. Plus, software updates continue to some out. I think the bike will blow you away.

What is the top bag on the back of the Interceptor please? Does it have a separate luggage frame, if so please advise that to, or just strapped on the seat? Many thanks. I just have the one bike for now but seriously considering a second when the garage is clear. Like yourself, I'm in my 60s, worked forever, live modestly and may as well enjoy what I can, while I can. One day, it's just over.

Just strapped to the seat. It’s just a cheap Amazon special but it looks good on the bike and holds a lot. WOSAWE Motorcycle Seat Bag Waterproof Bike Tail Bag Expandable PU Leather Helmet Bag, 16-21 Liters a.co/d/5PJQXFD
