  • The full size Sid is a compressed air powered loco. The reciever on the engine is filled with air from an external compressor. Used in mines where an
    internal combustion engine would be dangerous and there would be a plentiful supply of air for the drills.

    Proper job there! I have that same engine from Chris and it is nice, it is just a little tricky to keep on the rods all working in time with the plastic wheels is all. I can see the added weight helping with keeping it on the tracks too.

      Inspired by the kit from Chris this is my own version of this loco, designed and printed from scratch.

    Lovely job 👍👍 Those compressed air locos were just a little bit different. I really like your tapping guide, I might have to make one of those. Cheers, Alan.

      @@myfordboy Thanks. My drill press table doesn't attach like yours. I think I might have a go at making one using a cheap drill press bench stand from ebay.

    I'm always surprised by how little you have to ram your greensand. Do you get your zinc/aluminium alloy from scrap?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I reckon I ram quite hard, it probably does not show in the video.
      I buy zinc aluminium ingots. It's 12% aluminium. Makes great flywheels and good bearing properties. Nearly as heavy as iron.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only needed a small flask, less time to ram up. My cast ones are larger. I should make some smaller ones.

    Would it be possible to download printer files for the loco if i ask very kindly?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not design it to share. My files are a mess. Some parts like the cylinder ends I machined after printing to fit. Some had parts glued on as I was designing as I went. I based it on this which is available as a kit.
