    the ankle rolls helped tremendously I had knee pain after sessions but tried that before my next session and was nice and limber the whole time skating. appreciate these uploads big time 🤙

    Man i love these videos! I loved at the end how you talked about the bonk. I've been doing small little things to help myself get comfortable with vert. I love vert but it scares the crap out of me. Video suggestion......tips to get comfortable skating vert. One thing ive done in the past is jump in the ramp doing knee slides. it helps me get over the fear of falling down the ramp. also i usually do a pump/kickturn/carve session before i drop in. helps me get use to the transition. would love to hear and see more tips!

    great lesson - when learning new tricks i find wearing hip protector shorts (type skate/bmx/snowboard) helps a lot when falling on my hips

    I really appreciate how you explain things in detail,also that you show exact foot placement. A lot of people don’t show the foot placement very well or in the video you can’t always see if they are covering all the bolts or just two. The bonking method is good info to know as well.

    • @trogarmy

    • @trogarmy
      @trogarmy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it's better to initiate the air sooner than later for best results. The bonk really makes that board stick to your feet the best. It's all timing in the motion on the particular ramp you are riding

  • @nadhemmusicproduction5786
    @nadhemmusicproduction5786 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Trog, in your experience, how much time does it normally take to skate vert since you start skating? I know is a difficult question as factors such as speed of progresion and time put into it may play a big role. Do you have some guideline? Id like to skate vert some one day but I have been skating just for six months now...

  • @OldmanSk8ing
    @OldmanSk8ing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Does flying up bonking wheels up onto deck really help? How do you go from there? To get the balls to ultimately come back down the ramp 180?

    • @trogarmy
      @trogarmy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I learned the bonk by hitting cracks in the sidewalk and then bonking of mini ramps then bigger bowls then on vert. It really does help and took me years to believe that. Kind of wish i didn't fight learning the bonk earlier. From there i started bonking and then grabbing then spotting landing then bail out pattern. Then once everything was working i just had to say screw it. Time for a land or a slam. I wanted it so bad i just had to do one or the other. The first one i landed felt like i had done them my whole life. Yours will too!!

    • @OldmanSk8ing
      @OldmanSk8ing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trogarmy Thanks. I was having some success with early grabs over a small hip. But obviously the bonk is the "proper" way to hit an air.

    I have so much trouble grabbing the board it’s so uncomfortable grabbing tuck knee so I keep bailing and I don’t really get the bonk any tips?

    • @trogarmy
      @trogarmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got it! For the bonk you really have to spend time figuring out the timing on the ramp you are riding go fast at first and bonk and fly out to deck do this a couple dozen times. Metal coping usually doesn't bonk as hard as a concrete. coping.
      As far as grabbing frontside and tuck knee you really have to work and commit to getting in front of the board meaning your helmet needs to be in front of the nose of the board. Hope that helps. I'll do a grab and bonk video soon!

  • @joelbliss3526

    Rad video. Where i'm from there has been this perpetual code of silence about not sharing trick tips. Once you get to a certain level you don't share any secrets incase the next guy might learn something and get better than you. Its been that way since the 80's and has kept the standard of skating pretty low in my opinion. keep up the good work.
