Holikme Dryer Vent Cleaning Brush Review

  • Giving our dryer vent it's first cleaning in AT LEAST the 6 years we lived here with the Holikme Dryer Brush. Lint build up in dryer hoses is a major cause of house fires so important to take the time to clean them out from time to time. Note, when I bought the product it was 25 foot, but the current model is actually 30 feet.
    This is NOT a sponsored post but if you're interested in buying, here's the link www.amazon.com/Holikme-Cleani...

    Took me about 4 runs to get all the gunk out. I thought it worked well without the adapter. You can get the pieces apart with pliers/channel locks. Lastly, dryer lent makes for good starter fuel for campfires. Edit: I found the whole process quite satisfying. A product that works as well as advertised. Mine was 15 ft, and $10.

    My wife and I used this to clean the first half of our dryer ductwork and were amazed at how effective it is. (We ran out of time or we would have done the whole length in one approach). It's intuitive, very easy to use. It removed a lot of accumulated lint quickly and efficiently. It took us several cycles to fully scour the first length of flexible tubing. It followed the curvature of the duct smoothly. Incidentally, it's so flexible that I could bend a segment to a 90 degree angle without it snapping. Highly recommended. Ours came with the adaptor, a small piece in a small cellophane packet, easy to lose, even when packaged at the factory.

    Unscrewed each section with my drill in reverse. Great video. Even without the drill you did get great results. End of the day fire prevention and less wear and year on your dryer is key!

    I've never done this - but I'd suggest getting a cordless electric leaf blower and shoving it into the vent pipe behind the dryer, blowing the air out of the house - and then running the brush from the outside - in - back and forth - pulling it out every pass to allow the crap to blow out. Id imagine the brush will knock everything loose, and the lead blower will send it all out of the house. A stubby nozzle for my Milwaukee M18 blower was like $20.. I can't imagine that not working, and far better then the brush just pushing it all towards the dryer like it was when u started.

      @@windproductreviews no problem. I do mine when my dryer vent light come on. I turn the dryer on during a cycle (you could also do it without cloths in it, but the run time will be reduced to no time basically). I just did mine yesterday and got a small amount of lint.

      I do laundry repair for a living. Next time definitely have the dryer running while cleaning with the brush so it blows the lint out. I also add 1 attachment at a time. Start with one. Then add another one. Then another. I will post a video on how I do my dryer vent cleanings when I do my next job.

    I had a similar experience. After I finished cleaning, I found the provided bit in the packaging-it was small- duh! I also had a tough time unscrewing them. The process of the drill turning it surely does tighten all the pieces. I used a pair of pliers to hold and one to turn so I was able to get them apart.

    So turn dryer on “coolest” mode then brush from outside?

  • @stangainey7509

    The first one that came in the mail was missing the brush. Amazon sent me another one and I returned the first one. This one had the brush and the adapter for the drill. Finally getting around to clean the vent. My dryer vent goes to the roof.

      Finally got mine cleaned today using this brush and rods. Filled up one of those plastic bags you get from the store. It took 10 of the rods to pop out from the roof vent. 😃👍

    My customers told me that those break. It’s good for short vents but you don’t have a flex rod at the end for curves and elbows. So it would be harder to use.

    I just did my outside pvc pipe, My house is 30 years old and the pipe has never been cleaned. You need to turn the dryer on the cool setting, You will know when you hit a clogged area, You will fill it and a pile of lent will blow out, Keep going there will be more. I took the back off of my dryer and cleaned it what a mess, I got a big pile of lent. You need to clean the blower fan in the dryer too. My dryer works again.

    REPEAT: DO NOT put the drill in reverse to remove the brush attachment from the vent; that creates an entirely different problem....ask me how I know. However, to take the sections apart after removing it from the vent, I stood on the sections and reversed the drill. That let the sections separate for easy storage.

    There is a brand that instead of twisting totally together. They have a different way that it goes together with a little button. I think I like the other way better cause then you can undo it and store it
    At least for me

    Mine won't fit in my 3/8 drill. What kind of attachment do I need?

    • @windproductreviews
      @windproductreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Theoretically they come with a special, threaded drill attachment, but mine didn't. I'd recommended reaching out to the company because that's not something you'd find at a hardware store. They do have reducers to go from 1/2" to 3/8" but that would cost you as much as whole kit did

      I used one locking pliers on the metal well below the threads. Then you can use your other hand to bend the rod a little while you twist and they came apart easily.

      just remember that you absolutely can NOT use the drill reverse (counter clockwise) as the brush comes apart and stays in the dryer vent, which creates an entirely different issue. Ask me how I know.... hahahahha

    heaven forbid if they break inside your vent . or get unscrewed . or tear your duct

    • @windproductreviews
      @windproductreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that wouldn't be ideal! My basement is unfinished so I would just take apart the ductwork (they are in like 6' sections). Theoretically if you don't reverse the drill that shouldn't happen though
