And I'm not saying he was wrong for it, I've also had to murder certain dangerous or pesky animals and insects myself because they also encroached upon my territory or are damaging it. But it's all still murder because how could they possibly recognize the area in which they are in? They were simply just moving around, found somewhere to chill for a bit and never outright attacked anyone until someone came up to it and outright killed it just for being there. Same thing we do to other dangerous animals and bugs around our areas. It's not their fault, they didn't seek us out, but we still have to dispatch them because if not they'll harm or kill us by accident because they don't understand us nor our intentions in nearly the same way that we do theirs since we are, again by no faults, simply vastly more intelligent and dominant compared to them. With those tools you could easily have moved it without killing a keystone species. Also before you say “it could have injured the girl” 1. She was going to school, and the rattlesnake would have left by the time she came back 2. Rattlesnakes don’t strike unless they’re being threatened. Odds of dying from a snake bite in the US is something like 1 in 50 million. They aren't deadly as people overexagerate. Most snake deaths come from allergic reactions and people with poor hearts. As a snake owner myself I don’t advise anyone to outright automatically kill a snake. Regardless as to whether they are venomous or not. But if no one is around at least try to call animal control first. Yes, everyone safety is a priority but there are better ways to do it. You don’t sit there and just automatically kill wild life. Regardless as to whether they are venomous or not. Also, these animals were here first before people. We are the ones encroaching on their territory, not the other way around. If the snake wasn’t actually biting anyone and was just resting. Then there was no justification for killing it at all. You call the proper authorities first and see if they can relocate it to a safer location. That should be common sense, call animal control first. 😒😒😒😒

He could have. I’m sure they don’t come with lights and sirens in a hurry. So he has to leave and the snake does snake things and moves around. Next thing you know, someone who has no idea there is a snake gets bitten. You are correct in always trying to preserve the life of the snake if possible. But sometimes things don’t work out like that and people have to be protected. Boils down to common sense.

What you said is a good rule of thumb but like so many things in identifying snakes, it can very with snakes and circumstances. What I said was most likely nobody is rushing to the call. This man has to get on with his day. So he leaves then someone completely unaware of the situation comes along, possibly a child. Now possibly a human child is possibly fighting for their life. I’m all about relocating snakes. But common sense must prevail. Every situation is different. I watched a good friend take a bite to the calf from a 6 foot timber rattler. He was in bad shape before I got him to the hospital. A child wouldn’t have survived it. He still lives life with a chunk of his calf gone.

We were climbing through a fence when he stepped on that timber rattler. Man it went from a peaceful night on the creek to pandemonium just like that. It took a while for me to get him to a spot I could get the truck to. And then I had to go get the truck and get him. This was a big snake and it hit him high on his calf and sank a full dose in him. I just don’t think a kid could have taken it and lived.
