So glad I watched this. I just bought this bike and my I have my roommate that will for sure be riding on the back of my bike when I'm ready for a passenger.
totally agree. Rebel should either be with the backrest, or without pillion seat altogether. without the backrest, the pillion seat look so sketchy and I am not comfortable seating anyone on that seat.
Great review. When I installed mine, (along with the saddlebags and rear carrier) I thought the backrest was too small and low to be effective. Haven't had a passenger on yet but won't hesitate after hearing Nina's comments. Like the exhaust you have but waiting for an aftermarket straight one so it doesn't fry the saddlebag.
I ordered the passenger seat and backrest back in Feb. '21. I got them a few months back, and my wife won't ride on the thin, narrow seat with the tiny backrest. Just got my Corbin dual tour saddle today, with passenger backrest. My wife loves it, and I'm liking it too. Pricey, but worth it. This is something we can tour on.
i told you, my guy. such a good buy. my friends love having this addition because of the exact same reasons your friend mentioned. as for me, still got the low profile look and also a good spot to just hang your helmet
Backrests are a must if you plan on having a passenger on a consistent basis. Not only is it a huge Quality of life upgrade for your passenger, but because they are more stable on the bike it makes it so much easier to ride with a passenger.
So let me get this straight she has to sit further away she doesn't have to hug you and she doesn't have to hold on tight, take it off straight away, just messing great vlog again good to see Nina again Steve
@@LifeOfBurchI’m 250 and my wife is 150. Do you think this bike can handle the both of us? I’m looking to get this bike. Thank you for your response in advance
Man I took my cb500f out for a spin today. Damn it felt good. The Backrest looks good on the bike. I never liked how the Rebels look like with the pillion seat on, because it looks just stuck on and out of place. But the backrest integrates it into the bike.
The size of the passenger, height and weight, makes a big difference on how passenger seats work/feel. Back rests are a great feature. Nina's petite, that's a big plus.✌🏽👍🏽
I installed a Shad Sh48 top case with backrest on my rebel 1100 and my girlfriend says the bike has become much more comfortable, besides that she is also less afraid of falling off the bike.
If I had a regular passenger I would also get the backrest after Nina's experience! Riding as a passenger seems terrifying enough, falling off should *not* be a thing to worry about :D
Birch Beer, you gotta flip them mirrors, homie. Get them bike lines down!!! I went with the higher back bar on mine - for the class of bikes we own, the bar + removable pass. seat, has been a great way to get someone on there for shorter trips (to the ice cream spot, coffee, or a bar... ....or back to her/his place after the bar!)
Please share from where, haven’t been able to find the real OEM anywhere! Despite the shoddy welding, I prefer to get this one over some of the aftermarket ones im seeing! 🙏🍻👏
I laughed so damn hard when he said "Your hands were on me just to good"😂😂🤣. I ride with my friends once in a while on his zx6r and he either says I hold onto him just right when he's going kinda fast on the highway, or I grab him like a dog that doesn't know how to act🤣. But all jokes aside I felt your pain girl and possibly more as an occasional pillion.
Wish you where in michigan so I can hear a side by side comparison with the vance and hines I have on mine and your 2 brothers. Great job on the vids man. Also I was concerned about the back rest I ordered being too short also lol... still got a long ways till it shows up 🤣
I literally just logged in to my email just to subscribe after watching this video. I want to get the Rebel 1100 DCT, I am still trying to get my motorcyle license still. I am just not sure if Nevada qualify for those classes that can skip the driving test. I did ride motorcycle in Malaysia back then except I never own or ride big bike.
Good stuff. But I play a drinking game when I watch your stuff. I take a drink whenever you say "literally",,,which is a lot, lol. I'm drunk now, goodnight :-)

took my better half on the back on my rebel 1100 (no backrest) for roughly 200 miles (with many breaks) she was so uncomfortable towards the end she was nearly in tears. that back seat is horrible for her. im not sure a backrest would help so will wait for a decently priced touring seat i think!
Awesome video and awesome videos overall. Looking to buy the rebel 1100 now! Could you maybe give some tips on riding with a passenger for the first time for the driver and the rider?
There is a list of things both passanger and rider should be aware of before riding 2up, I'd say a quick search on youtube would help.# Fortnine is always good, th-cam.com/video/y5vUZouBNgE/w-d-xo.html
My Magna's back rest looks really goofy being so tall, but I wouldn't want my girlfriend back there without something keeping her from sliding off the back. I'm glad to see the Rebel's is lower-profile, but still serves the purpose.
They should make one which either folds away or is able to be clipped off quickly so it can be stored away if you don't need it. I have one too but don't like the look, especially if I'm on my own on the bike,
Probably the same, it's a tire thing. Hard round tires are not going to have the best grip on gravel or dirt. If you put nobby tires on your ninja, it might ride way better. A cheaper test would be taking a bicycle and trying out road and gravle tires to see the difference.
I just got this bike, and I couldnt be happier. My wife however, even though she wants to love it, says the backseat is killing her. She feels every litle bump on the road like a mean slap on her butt cheeks. She says she cant ride it more than 20min. I wonder if that backrest would help? Or maybe I should do something with suspensions? If so, would apreciate any insight. (she's 50kg). I tried riding backseat and didnt feel discomfort whatsoever (im 85kg), so Im really wondering what's up...
They were great on my 500, but not the look I’m going for on my 1100. Gonna wait to see what else is developed before I pull the trigger on engine guards for the 1100 and hope for something a bit smaller.
I got it from one of my Patreon members. He ordered it and by the time it came in he had changed plans and didn’t need it anymore. It’s normally $175 plus shipping and he gave it to me for $150 with free shipping. Super stoked!
it's the same size as my 535 virago's from 1989! it's ok for added fealing of safety for the passanger, but I think you're better off with taller, aftermarket one when it comes to comfort.
Do you happen to do anything with the preload to have a passenger. I’m still in stock settings and I feel fine. I’m 5’9 180 pounds. For just me but once my wife gets on not sure if I have to change anything
How do I get my hands on a rebel 500 w/ ABS?? The area where I am at is limited... so do I go to a dealer ship and order it? I really want one, I just don't know what the best thing to do is. The dealerships seem sparse and facebook market place is a shit show as always - they sell bikes but they "don't run."
Sorry to say this, but I hate backrests and they are an incredible drawback to the bike's aesthetics. I do not discuss if they are practical or comfortable but what they always do is to reduce fluidity to the line of the bike.
Lol, maybe so, but if you want her to like riding with you, and ask you to go over and over, and it makes her happier…. You still get the backrest, right?
@@ErikSeastead It's actually more complicated than that. Women are complicated. If she is excited and a little scared from the rush of adrenaline to the point where she still rides with you and holds on tight it might be in your favor to keep that feeling as long as possible because it will create exciting memories for her which she will associate to you. That can only be a good thing for you. If you don't care about that and your only concern is her comfort then yes you get the backrest or if she won't ride with you otherwise and you still want her to come along for some reason then yes of course you get the backrest.
