    Thank you for sharing training videos with dogs that don't already know the tricks. So many videos are filmed with dogs who know the tricks before the video is recorded, and they don't show any of the behaviors, challenges, and quirks you'll encounter when training something for the first time. I really appreciate seeing the whole journey, it's extremely helpful.

    I've been scattering the basics of "get it" every once in a while. However, like her, I don't _know_ how to do it. Train her, that is. This helped immensely! I'll be sure to get her a rougher tug toy tomorrow (She's a pretty heavy chewer) that's only for training so it's special.

    Actually I teach my dog in a bit of a different way to get different items. My way only works though if they are pretty good at fetching a moving ball. I use the Get Your command followed by the object when playing fetch with the object i eventually want her to grab when it does not move. Then i will place the object infront of us instead of throwing it and i will give her the command Get Your Leash and touch her leash and as soon as she picks up the object even just a lil bit i give her the positive marker i use and then repeat the command and treat. Then i start placing not throwing the object a bit further away and repeat earlier process sometimes i need to walk over and touch the object again. But if you are good with your positive markers you can kind of guide your dog on the object you want her to get. My dog currently will go get 3 different things, leash, squeaky, and her necklace. My last dog would go get different color balls, her leash, beer bowl, my shoes, the paper and i am sure im forgetting a few things. Ruby will get there though i have only had her for a year so far.

      Offer to watch a couple of Caesar videos and ask her to watch some of zaks videos where he talks about the benefits of his training over dominance training. Also maybe the video of him with sara. She and hero have become really popular since talent show and she uses similar methods so maybe it will help your mom see the effectiveness and validity of this style of training.

    • @MnDLoKoL
      @MnDLoKoL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Dominance training is what the dog needs. It needs a leader to take control over things that the dog can't, making the dog feel secure and complete. Among dogs, there's ALWAYS a leader, there is ALWAYS dominance. It is in their DNA, that's just how dogs are.

    As someone who's trying to train my dog to help me with certain things (my being in a manual wheelchair), the small steps on how to get to the final result was always hard for me to figure out. This video is 5 years old and the steps still work!
    I have an almost 2 year old border collie/australian cattle dog/husky mix pup. Super hyper, super smart, and gets fixated on one thing at a time and goes full force lol. I started with a shirt and he got it pretty well within 5 minutes. After about 10 minutes and 10 minute walkabout outside, I decided to try it with my shoe. He got it IMMEDIATELY! No whipping my shoe around like I fully expected him to do. He went, picked it up, brought it to me and dropped it in my hand! I immediately rewarded him with his rope (which he's never allowed to have cause he just rips it apart and eats the strands lol). I'm totally impressed. Thank you for this easy-to-follow video!

      If u reeaaaallly want a dog, think of ALL your dads objections (ie. taking care of its daily needs, vet bills, etc etc). Then come up with a plan that will settle all dads objections and worries. That’s what my kids did. They put together a presentation and to be honest, as a parent, I was really impressed. And we also said YES. first family dog and it’s been a GREAT experience for all of us. I really hope u get one... such joy!!

    Could you do a video on teaching commands by using hand signals. I want to be able to communicate without having to yell across the room or in a crowd.

    • @AmbiCahira
      @AmbiCahira 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Waylon Marques Do hand signal, say word, reward. Repeat handsignal at the same time or before each time and soon they can do the shortcut of not needing it verbally. :) It is great that you want this, my old dog is going deaf and training hand signals as younger has been a life saver.

    Here from live. how do you teach a dog to walk beside a a wheelchair or bike?

    • @DreavyHinker
      @DreavyHinker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Leah Bergfield
      I would suggest (assuming the dog already walks nicely on a leash when someone is walking next to them) a very positive introduction to the bike or wheelchair first, then in an area they are familiar with and with low distractions. I would start off with just a few steps at a time and rewarding and if they get in front of you use your treats to lure them back into position if they continue to pull out in front try having them look at you while moving slowly. Over the course of a few weeks you would then practice adding duration of the good walking behavior in-between rewards. Before you know it, they will be walking in the position you want them to happily. Hope this helps!

    • @Leahintrigued
      @Leahintrigued 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankyou. My dog won't take treats outside, we can always practice inside. I have accidentally run over him a coupletimes on accident indoors especially when i move backwards and don't realise he is close.

    • @DreavyHinker
      @DreavyHinker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leah Bergfield check your currency and consider upgrading to something more tempting if your dog doesn’t want to eat outside. You have to use a really tempting treat to overcome obstacles like that sometimes :)

      Elizabeth Roads my dog wholdnt eather at first. Find a place that she can get used to outside (a yard, or u can chain her to a tree any where without too meny distractions) take her too it at least once a day and do no training there for at least a week maybe longer untell she can just chill there (isn't all ways sniffing around or chasing things) then start training simple things there untell she gets really good at them then slowly go farther from the area and closer to distractions. This may take awhile but if consistent it should work

      I had the same problem. It's taken nearly a year to get "speak". Assuming your dog already understands training and your usual 'marker' (clicker or "yes") try and capture the bark when your dog does it naturally.
