Love your videos! I really appreciate how you have genuinely untrained dogs in the video as you work through the process of training them raw. Much better than other dog trainers!
I am commenting late, but this is one of the most helpful and unique techniques I have seen. People keep suggesting toy swapping and nailing recall, but none of that works. My dog just does not believe coming to me is more fun than keep away. I am going to try this with the long leash in my park. I tried this at home and it was promising.
Another great tip i used on my dutchie when he was younger was the trading game. That requires two equal toy´s, when he´s going after the first toy im picking up the second one, he will then try to take em both, but i will only trade once he have let go of the first one
I tried this mate but when I put the lead on. she wouldn't go and get the toy. it was like the lead was distracting her. each time she's run to go the lead would touch her and she'd be weirded out and leave it
Yeah, some dogs are sensitive about lines dragging on the ground. You can desensitize a line dragging, but I would probably go another route. Lots of options depending on the dog. If your dog likes tug, you could try this method in a small room without the line and try to get them to engage with you.
@@Mydogtrainingspot cheers mate. she's a GS x BM 10 month. she was really good at returning a few months ago but now she likes to run off a lot with it (since introducing the tug game) I was going to try putting the toy on a lead instead and lure her back that way?
Just tried this with my Doberman. It works amazing until she figured out the treat reward and now she just wants the treat… I figure I’ll take a break until tomorrow then repeat. Maybe less treats?? I only gave her one treat per successful ‘drop it’. Maybe we only do treats for ‘drop it’ specifically and the play time is for bringing it back?
Sometimes you can lower the value of the treat. For example if you are using dried liver the dog loses interest in playing but if you use kibble then the reward may be enough to drop but will resume playing. There are several methods to remedy this but kinda hard without interacting with the dog. Try experimenting!
@@Mydogtrainingspot I tried again today… their treat is pretty low in value as they won’t eat most treats (human food diet). I actually think I’m playing tug for too long it’s maybe confusing her/lacking interest. Thank you so much for your reply!
@@katfish4386 it sounds like you have some experimenting to do to figure it out. If I could give you quick solution, I would. the moment i give my puppy a treat to let go she jus waits and looks at me for more treats and loses all interest in the toy... lol P.S. he is extremely food motivated, so any tips on how to work around this would be appreciated
Lol a German Shepard. They are the insurance plan for trainers.... Trainers will always have a dog that needs training or help when it comes to a German shepherd 🤦🏼♀️ Lol they are sweet but also a pain 😋 I dog sit one and she loves me and I love her but she can be annoying lol and a pain kinda like a younger sibling xD
How oh how do you teach this with a dog who is totally not interested in toys?? Ex shelter dog so toys won't work. All good for those that are toy motivated
I've watched and tried a lot of techniques for this. This guy nailed it. My dog finally picked up on it immediately. Just follow his instruction.
That’s awesome! Nice work!

Just tried this with my dog and in one session he’s already bringing it back, who knew the fix could be so simple!

I thought tug a war was bad with a dog. Creates a competition between you and the dog.
I tried it with my girl and it worked really good. Next i'll try it with a dog.
BAHAHAHAHA
lol I would do the same🤣
LMAO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great job Tommy Matilda looks like she loves it.
i am going to give this a go my dog does like to play chase ..thanks
Will give a try. This heat right now not good for my boy
So simple
Great vid dude

Mannn when I tell you this helped some more practice she’ll be coming back with the toy with no snacks needed
i have a 14 week on spaniel puppy that has just started doing this. She was brilliant at retrieve until a few days back.
my dog a l w a y s tries to play keep away so thank you for this video
Great video. Thanks. My Border Collie wants me to chase her. I’ll give this a try

Is there a chance that it's inappropriate to use a ball on a string that is nice to chew? Meaning the dog is more attracted to chewing than tugging?
My dog comes back to me but wont give the toy. Any tips?
My staffy loves tug of war so she always brings it back lol

Thanks been trying to teach my Sadie it’s more fun if she brings it back to me but wants me to chase her instead 😂
i dont need him to get a TOY , i need him to pick up the corn from the field

Perfect vid
Great video, but letting my dog win isn't working. This has been going on a year trying to teach him to drop it to throw it.
I couldn’t help but giggle when she played keep away
You have to love a dog's ability to make us laugh!
My problem is sometimes i want my dog to bring me his toy and sometimes i want him to take the toy so he'll leave me alone
Thanks but iam disabled

My dog doesn’t even care about the ball or any kind of toys i get him
I tried it and my dog thinks she’s going for a walk lol didn’t work for me
I tried this and he didn’t even go after the toy 😭😭 please help
Lmao I have a 8 month German shepherd and he does this 😂
Take the toy and run. That's how my deaf Chihuahua is. I'm afraid of using a long leash. Willy gets/looks frightened.
using treats the, my dog stops playing fetch and becomes only interested in the treats.

I feel like this wouldn't be a problem if the dog isn't toy motivated?? They wouldn't keep the toy from you if they weren't motivated
My dogs drops the ball and comes to me to get treat 😭😭
THANK YOU FOR USING AN UNTRAINED DOG!!!!!
My dog is ignoring me lol
Well you just killed all the fun that the dog was having with you.IMO
