I think the reason Raging Blast 2 made such a big deal out of Hatchiyack being a playable character was because Dragon Ball was in a dry period at the time. Outside of the Jump special, there was no new content at the time, so Bandai was desperate to try and find something that could be used as a selling point for a new game, so using a villain from an obscure product, and animating a new special to go along with it was their way of getting people interested. The fact that Hatchiyack hasn’t been playable in a Dragon Ball console game since then should tell you all you need to know.

Man I wish Hatchiyack had some form of personality because I really like his design. Also I believe the original 2 parts is the first piece of Dragon Ball media I ever saw in Japanese (it may have been the 2008 JSAT Special).
I think the closest Hatchiyak ever comes to having a personality is in Dragon Ball Heroes. Specifically in one of the animated trailers where Goku is about to finish off Baby, when a time traveling Towa intervenes by summoning Hatchiyak who smiles and gives an enthusiastic thumbs up to Baby before the two fuse together into the ultimate incarnation of Tuffle vengeance. So if that counts then BDH did more to characterize Hatchiyak in under one minute than all of the other media originally featuring him combined.
Thank you for covering this obscure entry into the series. I imagine very few people knew of all of its different installments or that the Anime staff was involved in the Famicom game's writing, or even why the Famicom game was made in the first place.
Great video! I am sorry that I am not more help to you, but your research far eclipsed what I put together as I was focusing on it solely as a set of three video productions rather than adding the video game context. You confirmed some theories that I had and explained why the Famicom walkthroughs didn't match either the footage or the Playdia game. I rather think it does work as a "movie"; the thin plotting makes about as much sense as Movie 10 does, for example, but that's because we already stretch the word "movie" and "plot" whenever we speak of a few of the DBZ features... Good luck on getting to your next Patreon goal!

@@Don11037 By choosing a pronunciation closer to the original language, he's showing his knowledge and respect for the creator's intent behind the terminology. Dragon Ball's names and terminology are heavy into wordplay. Saiya-jin is a play on yasai, the Japanese word for vegetable. By changing the pronunciation to seiya (a completely unrelated word in Japanese), you're a step further removed from what the author is trying to reference. Much like Krillin robs Kuririn of its reference (kuri= chestnut, like the character's head resembles). For the typical non-Japanese speaker this might not mean much, but Dragon Ball is quintessentially a Japanese creation. The further away from the language, the less you can appreciate the jokes and wordplay and the overall experience of what it is. Hope that explains things a bit.
This has become a Christmas ritual for me over the past 5 years! Also this video taught me something new about dragon ball and these days that is a pretty rare thing!
18:00 According to all official material concerning mapping the Dragon World such as the Daizenshuu, Pilaf's castle is on the western continent (slightly south or Uranai Baba's palace), so either Pilaf has two palaces or the game screwed up (which isn't really surprising).
Wow thanks so much for this video Lance. I didn’t realize there was so much video game lore and that there were all these plot points involved! Very interesting. And it does seem like a story more geared for an interactive medium, albeit not a very amazing one. The animation was clearly created to market the Famicom game and entice fans with high spectacle fights- there isn’t any desire to “tell a compelling story” here. Just like 2010’s remake was created to market Raging Blast 2.
I think it would have been cool if the old guy stayed as the main villain. Dragon ball has never really had an old guy villain aside from Gero, who doesn’t count because he got Merc’d within like four chapters.
Thanks for the insight! Great stuff. Man, this stuff always makes me want to figure out how to actually play all these old games. But they never are quite as fun as I envision them.
I thought the reason Friezza and the others got defeated after Goku revealed they were ghost warriors was like a japanese thing when you know someone name or origin they lose thier powers. I also thought that Friezza and the others did not realize they were ghost warriors and finding that out freaked them out somehow. Well I prefer the vhs version of this with the silly small fights against the monsters. I love the one Piccolo fights. It is fun and silly, Vegeta gets a cool kill. But I can see the improvments of the 2010 version. But I like the old take and the style.
Im guessing the animators put his haircut there because of the whole "Saiyans have only a limited number of hairstyles depending on their class" from the Turles movie. Well, except they forgot that Trunks is not a pure blooded Saiyan and his hair comes from his mom's side of the family.
I honestly never understood why the English cast didn’t dub the Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans when it was released for Raging Blast 2; they were literally right there and available to dub it while doing the voices for the game.
Me: OK, then. I've been struggling to go to sleep at a sensible hour since I arrived to Japan. I should start tonight to I finally adapt to it. Misterare Fusion: New video available! Me: ... Goddamn it...
Hey maybe Sparking Zero has Hatchiyak or whatever his name is as a playable character too so they include the movie "Dragon Ball Super Z: Top Secret True Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Blue Ultra Instinct Scooby Do 4k Remastered Version". Who knows?
Oh wow. I knew nothing about the Patreon thing so I just assumed you would be covering it and had just been wondering "how" exactly you'd cover this when you got to it. Also I kept thinking of Transformers when you'd say Destron Gas Machines since Destron's what the Decepticons are called in Japanese so my mind kept trying to input the heroes stopping Decepticons devices whenever you'd say it XD
Destron gas? Did Megatron or Galvatron turn his soldiers in to a gas. My guess it was Galvatron lol he was crazy. All in good fun that term is used as a faction name for a couple of franchises in Japan. In Japan the Decpticons are called Destrons.
14:37 this usually needs an spice to be intersting like the opponent getting strong upon revival like in the king of fighters 94's final boss. it can also work if the enemy is extremely strong, causing desperation to the player that now has to fight again an powerfull opponent but without the resources he used in the previous part of the battle.
I know you said you don't normally touch the video games with a 10 foot pole, but since I was enjoying this episode, I would like to say I'd look forward to digging into more of these games, especially as many of them do strange design decisions/deviances from canon, and their mixed bag of quality kinda calls for experts to steer people away from - or maybe towards, if you're sadistic - the kusoge. Also critique: The part about the "Ghost Warriors". In the animation, I think it was said that the way to beat the Ghost Warriors is meant to be identical to the way they originally died. Note however that some of the villains have the wrong "deaths" (Freeza is blasted by Goku like on Namek, not chopped in half by Trunks, Cooler died from a basic generic ki blast so he should've been gone way sooner, etc.), and this logic isn't used in the video game at all.
the Tsufurians were always quite weird to me. Like, I get where the original idea came from: Saiyans are a race of brutes who care about nothing but fighting, so where did they get spaceships, armor and scouter from? Answer: they got them from a smarter neighboring population. And I don't blame the anime for including this during the saiyan saga, but there's a reason this never made it into the manga. Because the Freezer Forces made this explanation irrelevant. From Namek onwards the saiyans are not treated as independent workers anymore, but a small part of a larger organization, and it's that organization that supplies them with all the equipment. So seeing this videogame focus on the Tsufurians, years after the big Freezer arc, and then seeing GT do the same even more years later, is just bizarre.
The Tuffles and their story are just another cool concept that Toriyama never had the care to use... but that have a lot of potential... and that could have enriched dbs so much... And for those that may say that they suck, know that they still keep to appear i some form in db heroes... the main engine of dragon ball in Japan...
this video is really useful because for the longest time plan to eradicate the saiyans has confused me up and down and into the ground on what the hell they're supposed to be about also they reused emperor pilaf's face sprite for dende's isn't that hilarious
I wish u talked bout the OST of the 90s version, as it quite differenciate itself from the anime OST with its dark electro tones and the heavy organ undertone of Hatchiyak's Theme ❤
this whole thing reminds me to the rare game of evangelion called 2nd impressions with an original character call mayumi, its really interesting and it had high production value but its really obscure.
After watching this video I was delighted by how bizarrely interesting this rabbit hole actually was I simply saw the raging blast 2 animation along with yo son goku and his friends return when I heard about battle of God's back in the day and wanted to catch up on all the tiny tidbits I'd missed out on completely during that time so I always saw it as a meh it was cute and inoffensive but not really worth seaching for now I can say that it's cute and interesting and is worth actually gaining the context for even if it can't wholly be described as "good" or "bad" it certainly isn't meh
My own head canon: both Dr. New and Lyche both were experts in their own fields of study. Dr.Mew might've borrowed Lyches research ( since he died before GT's timeline) and made his own improvements ; though he resorted to underhanded tactics as he taking people against their will for experimentation ( ala Gero).
Hey Lance, do you know when the first part of avatar dissection will come out? Can you tell me your ranking of the avatar books? Including Korra? Or will they be ranked in the dissection? My list is this: 1. Earth 2. Fire 3. Water 4. Change 5. Spirits 6. Balance 7. Air
Add this to the pile of "fandom Game of Telephone" where misinformation causes people to think they know a whole lot more than they actually do about what the hell they're talking about.
I remember having a DS game that had a pretty similar style of gameplay though I think it covers from the Saiyans arc to the Cell arc I never could beat past Freezer in Vegeta and Piccolo stories and I don't remember where I got with Goku and Gohan maybe the game expected me to grind on earlier chapters.
Expect Toei Animation and Bandai Namco to make an CGI remake of Plan to Eradicate Super Saiyans in a few years. Or even something more surprising, remaking the original Famicom game!
Just wait until you get to the Super Dragon Ball Heroes story. There are so many adaptations and one is worse/more confusing than the other. I don't think GT just "ripped off" this games story when making a plot related to the Tsufurus. Obviously there is technology involved because that is what Tsufurus were known for, and Dr Mu fells more like a Gero copy rather than Raichi (ironicly Baby made Dr. Mu in order to complete his evolution). Baby's goal was also not a revenge plot, since he wouldn't go out of his way to brainwash everyone, including Saiyans, just to get revenge on Saiyans. The exception to the rule way Goku who drived him mad to the point Baby lost his composure multiple times (like a literal baby)
Transformers has been doing all sorts of crossovers with different media franchises over the last few years. Anyone wanna take bets on how long it will be until they get around to DragonBall?
This is, in my opinion, the best video you have ever made. Congratulations on the good work. I think the extended run time really allows you to develop your thesis.

I like hatchiyak the way he is, having no personality makes him creepier
Covered all 4 versions with respectable and fun flair. I could tear up.
Thank you for pronouncing Saiyan correctly, MistareFusion. This is the first video I've seen on your channel.
Thank you for noticing and appreciating. Hope you enjoy perusing here. There are over 200 videos on the channel and over 100 more episodes of Dragon Ball Dissection!
Why does it matter how he says it we all know what hes talking about
@@Don11037 By choosing a pronunciation closer to the original language, he's showing his knowledge and respect for the creator's intent behind the terminology.
Although his pronunciation isn't exactly the best.
@@loganhoffman2426 He's not based on krill?!
This has become a Christmas ritual for me over the past 5 years! Also this video taught me something new about dragon ball and these days that is a pretty rare thing!
why is no one talking about how gohan is literally super saiyan 2 on the freaking cover
I like Hatchiyack's design. That's the most I can say on the positive side of Eradicate the Saiyans.
real
Thank you so much for covering this. Amazing video.
Thanks for the insight! Great stuff. Man, this stuff always makes me want to figure out how to actually play all these old games. But they never are quite as fun as I envision them.
8:10 Nice callback! hahaha I was waiting for it... and you did not disappoint!
Really great video! Loved it, and I learned a lot more about the games than I thought I would
We can all agree that Plan To Eradicate Christmas is the superior version
I thought the reason Friezza and the others got defeated after Goku revealed they were ghost warriors was like a japanese thing when you know someone name or origin they lose thier powers. I also thought that Friezza and the others did not realize they were ghost warriors and finding that out freaked them out somehow. Well I prefer the vhs version of this with the silly small fights against the monsters. I love the one Piccolo fights. It is fun and silly, Vegeta gets a cool kill. But I can see the improvments of the 2010 version. But I like the old take and the style.
8:53 lol what’s Trunks doing in the background up there ? And I didn’t know he had brothers.
Im guessing the animators put his haircut there because of the whole "Saiyans have only a limited number of hairstyles depending on their class" from the Turles movie.
Well, except they forgot that Trunks is not a pure blooded Saiyan and his hair comes from his mom's side of the family.
Dirty Peasant | I really don’t think they pushed the thought process that far.
Plus I’m pretty sure that guy is a Tsufurian, not a saiyan.
@@charlietownsend2826 True. Im just giving them the benefit of the doubt because that's the only reason I can think of that could explain it.
I remember watching this OVA on TH-cam when I was a younger child.
Me too! I saw it on a phone while on a bus trip.
Wow, thanks for doing this video, I had a lot of the same misconceptions as you did, so this was really quite interesting.
I honestly never understood why the English cast didn’t dub the Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans when it was released for Raging Blast 2; they were literally right there and available to dub it while doing the voices for the game.
Hell if I know...
Me: OK, then. I've been struggling to go to sleep at a sensible hour since I arrived to Japan. I should start tonight to I finally adapt to it.
Misterare Fusion: New video available!
Me: ... Goddamn it...
It might have been painful to make, but this video was great!
Who knows?
You forgot the best one - Plan to Eradicate Christmas! 🎅
I think we all know what is the ultimate version of this movie: TFS's Plan to Eradicate Christmas.
Plan to eradicate the super duper Saiyans alrigggggggghhhhhhhtttr
Can't wait for Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyan Gods.
Plan to plan a planned plan to eradicate the super duper godly diddly doo Super saiyan gods by planning plans...
Where was that said?
the Tsufurians were always quite weird to me.
Given all that you said, I think you might like next month’s Dragon Ball Dissection. What a timely comment!
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is dope.
Piccolo pushing down trunks’ head so immaturely is the best thing ever
20:03 i tought the picture in the middle was actually vegeta
It's his new form
The Tuffles and their story are just another cool concept that Toriyama never had the care to use... but that have a lot of potential... and that could have enriched dbs so much...
And for those that may say that they suck, know that they still keep to appear i some form in db heroes... the main engine of dragon ball in Japan...
I still play raging blast 2 to this day
It’s the last good Dragon Ball arena game. One of my favorites! :)
Hatchiyack gives me Bojack, Cell and Broly vibes
i read dragon ball multiverse
and i never understood where the man running around with Saiyan ghosts came from
now i do
thank you
@@hosep lol no. Multiverse is Super's Tournament of Power done right and that was before Super became a thing.
this video is really useful because for the longest time plan to eradicate the saiyans has confused me up and down and into the ground on what the hell they're supposed to be about
also they reused emperor pilaf's face sprite for dende's isn't that hilarious
Gotta finish an assignment but I’m leaving a like here without watching the full video.
I know the level of quality to expect.
😉
You forgot the best version. Plan to Eradicate Christmas.
I love how the Tsufru-jin is technically canon to the point that I’m surprised they never used this backstory in Super
Can't wait for the eventual "Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans Gods"
How many more of these videos do we need? The only answer is MOOOORE!
Ah, it's nice I became a Patron right when the objectively best video ever comes out.
I have loved Hatchiyacks design since the first time I saw him years ago
I wish u talked bout the OST of the 90s version, as it quite differenciate itself from the anime OST with its dark electro tones and the heavy organ undertone of Hatchiyak's Theme ❤
The composer + arranger of We Gotta Power, Keiju Ishikawa, was behind it. That may be why.
And it’s certainly heavy on the 80’s-90’s vibe.
I hope you review more of the games in the future! Even i didnt knwo a good part of this!
26:48 I guess Dr. Brief decided to get back into the cup business again
8:52 Those two guys look like Trunks and Vegeta! Holy shit! Does this mean Bulma's a tsufurujin??
this whole thing reminds me to the rare game of evangelion called 2nd impressions with an original character call mayumi, its really interesting and it had high production value but its really obscure.
This could be a whole arc. Wow!
Love this video. I’m gonna pitch into Pateron, I should’ve already given how much I love DBD
Hey Lance, do you know when the first part of avatar dissection will come out?
Can you tell me your ranking of the avatar books? Including Korra? Or will they be ranked in the dissection?
My list is this:
1. Earth
2. Fire
3. Water
4. Change
5. Spirits
6. Balance
7. Air
Add this to the pile of "fandom Game of Telephone" where misinformation causes people to think they know a whole lot more than they actually do about what the hell they're talking about.
It's keep coming back because BANDAI makes sure we will remember this.
Baby gives me Kid Buu vibes
I remember having a DS game that had a pretty similar style of gameplay though I think it covers from the Saiyans arc to the Cell arc I never could beat past Freezer in Vegeta and Piccolo stories and I don't remember where I got with Goku and Gohan maybe the game expected me to grind on earlier chapters.
Saw the intro, pressed that Like button
This was great I'd love a dragon ball dissection game series
Expect Toei Animation and Bandai Namco to make an CGI remake of Plan to Eradicate Super Saiyans in a few years. Or even something more surprising, remaking the original Famicom game!
if toei remake plan to edacate the saiyans hoopfull they do the ture vison if it so we can get palyduia viosn with all cool shit in it
Great as usual.
The Dragon Ball Heroes Anime also does a lot of removing stories/big fights only from the games.
The fact that your channel is growing and you are gonna being doing this as a living puts a smile on my face.
Next patreon goal he has to dissect the abriged series
Destron? Every time I hear that I think of Transformers since that's what the Decepticons are refered to as in Japan
Transformers has been doing all sorts of crossovers with different media franchises over the last few years. Anyone wanna take bets on how long it will be until they get around to DragonBall?
I want a dub where it's called Decepticon gas.
Same here. But I also Think of the villains from Kamen Rider V3, who are also known as Destron.
Nice work
My favorite character in this movie was the guy who wanted to kill Piccolo with Land Mines
This is, in my opinion, the best video you have ever made. Congratulations on the good work. I think the extended run time really allows you to develop your thesis.
