Rather than a movie, I wish this could've been a filler saga for the anime, that way Bojack and his crew could've been a little more fleshed out with some changes here and there. But if that were to happen, we would've gotten extra filler on the Other World Tournament. The bright side to that though is the anime would have plenty of content and be far ahead from the manga.
How's this for a rewrite of the movie plot? Mr. Satan hosts a tournament at some point in the seven year gap between the Cell Arc and the Buu Arc. Mr. Satan claims to have gathered The Galaxy Warriors to this planet to fight in his tournament to prove who is the strongest in the galaxy, having summoned them via a wish on the Dragon Balls. The winner of the tournament will receive a wish on the Dragon Balls, though Mr. Satan (and the audience, presumably) believe it all to be an elaborate hoax set up for the tournament with the Money family providing the actual reward with their vast resources. Later, it is revealed that the Money family actually IS rich enough and has good enough connections to have had someone collect the Dragon Balls and make a wish on the dragon to summon these warriors: Bojack and Co. Bojack and Co., having seen the power of the Dragon Balls firsthand, decide to hide out on Earth, suppressing their power levels for about a year as they bide their time and wait for the chance to win the Balls for themselves and use them for their nefarious space pirate plans.
That's actually a good idea. The only issue would be why Future Trunks is there after he already left. This takes place after cell but many years before Buu. Maybe he came back to tell them of his success after he destroyed future 17, 18 and Cell. But then why is his hair long? When he destroyed them he had the stupid bowl cut. Maybe it takes a year to get fuel for the time machine?
this movie always stuck out to me due to the different color palette it has compared to the others, its simple but quite effective to make it slightly more memorable than it would have been otherwise
They seem to have taken note of this film being given its own visual flair, since the later films also wind up having distinctive color palettes, only instead of having blue highlights and such, they lean more on the purple side.
I've always felt Zangya has one of the best character designs in the series. I love how her hair flows into the air when she powers up. ...Too bad her looks are really the only noteworthy thing about her.
It's at least something to remember. She (like most of Bojack's gang) don't really get much time to do anything. Fun fact. Zangya does not get hit once by anyone during all the fighting, until Bojack kills her.
This movie has a lot of pro wrestling inspirations, as not only is the guy Gohan beats to qualify to the finals a stand-in for Stan Hansen, but three of the Galaxy warriors are "inspired" by Mil Mascaras, the Road Warriors and Abdullah the Butcher. And that's aside from the battle royal aspect of the first phase of the tournament.
Add Mr. Satan being a close Hulk Hogan pastiche and his cronies from The Cell Games being Big Van Vader, Sensational Sherri and Shawn Michaels, it's impressive how many wrestling references make it to DBZ.
At least Darth Maul and General Grievous get more lore and stories added to their characters later on that make them more interesting. Bojack and his goons have been the same generic villains for many years with nothing added to them. Not even the video games want to give them the time of day because only Bojack and Zangya are ever playable.
@@leonardofarias8843 Those are the *only* two we _ever_ see brought back for games & other such extraneous media, so obviously they made the biggest impression; Bojack for being the main antagonist & Zangya for having the novelty of being a lady villain.
Whenever people go on to call Z Broly the worst villain in the franchise, I always point them to Bojack . I mean at least Broly is entertainingly crazy and has a decent backstory. Bojack is just...there.
When I first started watching Bojack Horseman I’d always think of this movie lol before that I always thought the name Bojack was just some typical Toriyama esque pun
Dang, I can't believe Toei created a much more intriguing battle royale concept in this movie than they did years later in an actual supposedly fleshed out Dragon Ball series
Let's just hope Dragon Ball keeps on making them bank without them doing anything more than the bare minimum, else we'll recieve another poorly planned out Dragon Ball series.
Some of the best outfit designs for the Z gang and it was for a throwaway movie lol. You'd think Gohan wearing his dad's old gi would have SOME weight but nah, this movie was literally just thrown together for eye candy. Probably my favorite iteration of Trunks' outfits in the entire series too. Such a shame.
Running with your angle of Bojack and co. BEING the Galaxy Warriors, it would’ve been fun if Bojack and his gang had come to Earth and set up the tournament themselves: Gather up all of the strongest fighters on the planet in one place, let them tire each other out by fighting, then smoke them all while they’re exhausted so there’s no one left to oppose them. Maybe Bojack could be more theatrical, like a circus ringleader. Mr. Satan and the Money family could still be there (maybe the Money family are Bojack and co.‘s “in” on the Earth, so no one is suspicious of their motives before it’s too late). Ah, we can dream, can’t we?
>Maybe Bojack could be more theatrical, like a circus ringleader So basically, assuming he still had the same design, make him a merger of the two villains from One Piece Stampede. ... ... I can jive with that.
@@Anthintendo It's a lot of fun, I recommend it. Pretty much one big Love Letter to One Piece as a whole. For crying out loud, the Final Battle ends with a Mash-Up of We Go and We Are, how could that _not_ be awesome!?
That would have been so Awesome and a great oppurtunity to give the Little Guy finally some Relevance again, but sadly even the Staff Members don´t care About the Little Crane Student anymore. DB Movie 3 is sadly still the only Time, Chiatzu was used greatly in a Movie :(
@@Gardi93 Actually the Saiyan Battle was the Only Time Chiatzu really ever used Self Destruct outside of Videogames. The other times he Just got defeated or wasen´t even Present.
@@SomeRandomDude000000 Because they rather let tgeir fans down and end the series that gave then their fame in the first place, than risking making a series that would get demonitized. In the last few years TFS just lost integrity. They are just a buisness now, money is all they care about. I noticed that shift ever since they got the bigger studio. It's a shame
@@JackOfen I mean maybe they're just not interested in the project anymore. They've been doing it for like 8 years non stop. It sucks but what are you gonna do. It's better they stop instead of trudging on with something they probably don't have the passion for anymore. Besides their job is TH-cam, if they don't make money off of it they don't eat
I don't think there is any need to bad mouth TFS given the amount of work they've put in, and the amount of joy they've provided people. I'd say more, but Wayne has exactly hit the nail on the head.
They probably had already committed to the idea of the Galaxy Warriors being a publicity stunt by Mr. Satan and just added in some justification for the actual villains.
I think it would be weird that they would just come to earth like that just to take part in a tournament when they are strong enough to beat the likes of Vegeta and a threat to be sealed by the gods.
@@M3rtyville Maybe they would want to have a low profile until it was the time to strike, or maybe they would do that just for fun, demonstrating how EEEVIL they are. And at least that would make it more interesting than the standard direct modus operandi all DB movie villains have when they appear.
I've always seen DBZ Movie 9 as the epilogue to Gohan's story in the Cell arc. I just wish Goku didn't have to bail out Gohan and Gohan could have defeated the villains without needing to be reminded of what to do like he was in the Cell arc.
Unfortunately for him, Gohan is permanently stuck in the shadow of Goku. Not helped by the fact that he always dresses like his dad and even shares a VA with him in Japanese.
Well thats the reality of Dragon Ball you CANT WIN by yourself any important battle it ALWAYS has to be Goku in one way or another (The Buu saga being the most insulting example)
@@ironmaster6496 WHAT IS YOUR DUMBASS TALKING ABOUT? GOKU IS THE MAIN CHARACTER YOU MORON, AND PICCOLO HAS SAVED GOHAN MULTIPLE TIMES AND YOU AIN'T CRYING ABOUT THAT.
5:45 i like the idea that the characters posed for these pictures, and piccolo went with a dramatic head turn, while kuririn decided to clasp his fist dramatically, and gohan just treated it like school picture day
This movie made me think about future trunks in super. When the goku black arc started they already knew that the next arc will be the tournament of power, so it would be understandable to reintroduce future trunks to use it in that arc. And in the end of the arc the universe of trunks is destroy so it makes more sense to stay, but instead they make a stupid explanation so he can left again mirroring the end of cell. "Future trunks in the tournament? Nobody want that guy, get ride of him, better put tien in there".
I have been saying this that Trunks should have been on Tournament of Power. It would be interesting how Jiren and Trunks would interact because both have similar backstories. It would probably make Jiren less generic.
@@brucebanana4486 I don't think Trunks probably would've lasted long enough in the tournament to have a heart-to-heart with Jiren, especially since the writers would be gunning for the inevitable Goku vs. Jiren showdown. That said, it is something of a waste to not even bother bringing Future Trunks to the ToP.
Yeah. Toriyama could have given the shitty Black Arc ending a point by including Trunks in the ToP instead of someone like Tien (who was useless) or 17 (who was admittedly essential, but just there for blatant fan-service), so he would have been an actual useful character with an actual motivation to partecipate, even having potentially good interaction with Cabba and Frieza. But no, he had to write him off the story again, making that ending even worse.
@@TheAzulmagia And yet a worthless character like 17 became the savior of all universes? At least Future Trunks winning would feel more natural than bringing back a dead character for no reason.
And you have officially, forever, surpassed DBZ Abridged in terms of the series/movies. Also, it always seems the Toei staff come up with much more imaginative locations for battles than the main series, at least in DBZ.
It's not like TFS quit specifically because of Bojack. They just were burned out on the abridging project and didn't want to worry about copyright issues.
@@williamharmon4039 Yeah, it really was a shame that it didn't take TFS with them because all their DB content after DBZA is fucking garbage, like their regular content.
And here I thought this was going to be just continuous raw dogging on Bojack. Now I want to watch this one again. Because I was 13 when Gohan defeated cell on Toonami, this movie has always held an extra hyped place in my heart
The tournament is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I just can't stop appreciating how awesome the designs look and the concept it's self is one of it's unique aspects. (It does the Battle Royal a lot more creatively than the TOP did in Super) and given how bland Bojack turned to be I honestly wish they stuck to this through out the film.
I really like how this movie fits in the narratively perfectly and adds to it by getting Vegeta to return to combat after swearing to never fight again, something the manga doesn't address.
The reason I love this movie is because bojack doesn't look at all like a dbz villain. He has a very dragon quest like design. He's also probably one of the most original movie villains, as he isn't an android, friezas brother, a saiyan, or any of the other enemies goku and his friends faced. He may be a 1 dimensional character, but the idea of an evil space pirate here to take gokus planet, not for any moral beliefs, just because he can....I like him a lot.
Fun fact: The German name of this movie is just: Super Saiyajin Son Gohan. Man, just a few days the Super Dragon Ball Heroes Big Bang Mission Episode 3 dropped and they came back with a redesign for Bojack was looks to me like a goon trying to dress up like him. I find it interesting that this tournament which was made by some rich dude for his child is more akin to a Survival Tournament than what Dragon Ball Super came up with. Btw, since you mentioned differences like Piccolo's belt, I also recall Trunks turning SSJ has the hairstyle of his Grade 3 form but without being buffed and having that terrible speed decrease since the Broly Movie.
Not sure I mentioned this but gosh I wish Tenshinhan and Yamcha had been used better. Like imagine if Gohan had gone SSJ2 right away, only to get caught in the Psycho Thread, the more he struggles the more it chokes him, the easier he is to wail on. He can't. Escape. Then you hear familiar shouts, and both Yamcha and Tenshinhan burst onto the scene, surprising and striking two of the villains out of the way either physically or with Ki and pulling a combined attack on the last one holding the thread freeing Gohan.
Kanzenshuu has now been updated with the individual release dates for the two separate parts. Interestingly enough Part 1 came out before the actual original game did.
Once I haven't known DBZ movies exist, but then I encountered AMV of 9th movie with "Three Doors Down - Kryptonite" track. At first, I was puzzled if I missed those amazingly animated scenes on TV run of the Anime. It was a window for the whole new universe for me.
I always feel bad, when Tien, Yamcha and the others get relegated to being jobbers. Things would be so much more fun, if they kicked a good amount of ass before jobbing to the main guy.
11:26 Back when I was a productive member of society, I used that particular theme as an alarm to wake me up in the morning. It worked pretty well if I do say so myself.
Between the Cell Games, the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, the afterlife tournament, and the one in this film Dragonball sure was churning out alot of tournaments around this time.
I always saw Gohan as his own character and interpreted his similarities to Goku as he looks just like his father. This movie sticks out because Gohan in the anime shows far more independence and willingness to go on adventures than he did in the movie or manga. Even in the next movie, he does show up to fight Broly to save his brother and Videl. Movie 9 highlights a flaw in Dragonball that bleeds into Super: The writers paternalistic need to use Goku to show kids who is the real hero. The thing is that Gohan could've busted out of the Bear Hug on his own out of instinct. As for Bojack, they maybe need a good 30 minutes to introduce themselves. What does it say about the Galaxy when Earth based villains have better flair for theatrics than Frieza? At least Cell was a showman.
@@gavinlucas9761 No, he means "DBZ" because its common vernacular to refer to the whole series (including Super & GT) as "Z" because its just a casual reference. I mean I could go into explaining its because most fans grew up in the 90s watching Z and only watching the original if they became diehard fans but its more like the fact that everyone calls 'medical adhesive strips' by the brand name "Bandaid" even if they are a different brand.
@@doomswell I don't like that analogy. Because unlike most people I was introduced to the Original Dragon Ball. (Aka the one before DBZ.) and I liked that one much more, and even read the original manga, to where even by the time it reached the Z portion the chapter titles still call it Dragon Ball and NOT Dragon Ball Z! and calling the series Dragon Ball Z and not Dragon Ball is completely stupid and illogical. Dragon Ball will always be Dragon Ball.
@@gavinlucas9761 Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't true. You even say so yourself, "unlike most people". People speak the simplest way possible, even if it makes them stupid. Im not saying its smart, Im just saying you can't deny people are stupid. Although Im not saying OP is stupid either. In the end, the OP said "DBZ" and I was just clarifying, he did in-fact mean "DBZ & the rest of the franchise TM circa 1900s Toei Animation Incorporated, Limited, etc" aka "DB and Z" for short, abbreviated as "DBZ" (even though 'DB&Z' would be more accurate) For better or worse, he said what he meant and he meant what he said. Its called casual conversation.
@@doomswell My apologies. I'm mostly am mostly calm, and I try not to raise my voice, even while I'm commenting. It's just that there isn't that I lot of people that I haven't come across that didn't experience the same way I did with Dragon Ball, because most people I know got into Dragon Ball because of Dragon Ball Z. And I know that it's the more popular entry because of that. But it's very upsetting that most people that I know address the series as DBZ because they didn't start with DB first. And that's why I've very upset because of it. I'm not saying that your wrong, there is some logic to your statement. I'm just upset since I started with DB first and not DBZ and my experience was very different compared to most people that I've come across.
My God father had all of the bootleg subs back in the mid 90's. This is the first movie I ever saw. Had no idea why their hair was changing or anything. This movie literally made me the fan I am today.
Aside from introducing a theme for Mr. Satan, Gohan also receives a revamped theme. Given how there's a timeskip right around the corner for the anime adaptation, this theme wound up being more for his teenage self, but it made its debut here in M9. A number of its renditions wound up being left on the cutting room floor, though.
In Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 2, it's revealed that Bojack and his crew were the last members of the Race of Hera. If this movie wanted to focus on Bojack, it could have had this lore featured in the movie to potentially flesh them out more. Unfortunately, that's not the case similar to how the Tullece Crusher Corps have backstory on who they were and how they met Tullece, but none of that matters in the movie and they're all taken out at once by Goku. This was one of my favorite Dragon Ball Z movies, but after rewatching it for my EWW Bojack Unbound video, while I still like it, it's not as good as I remember it. Bojack is the epitome of the stigma surrounding DBZ movie villains as he's a bad guy, he shows up, a fight happens, and he's killed, nothing more. It's too bad because the tournament was the one thing that helped set this movie apart from other ones and is the only thing that keeps this movie afloat.
Keep up the terrific dissection MistareFusion. I also have great respect for TotallyNotMark from what I've seen of him, and I'm sure he deserves all the wonderful success he has earned.
They really could have mixed the superhero Great Saiyaman idea with Gohan's desire to be a scholar and have him become the Dragon Ball version of Superman. If GS had been made a little less ridiculous and Gohan stuck with the Golden Warrior persona, they really had no reason to hit the panic button and hand the series back over to Goku
11:52 "Perfunctory" I love it when people like you and my teachers use such big words others don't often say anymore. I like to take notes so I can use them later when writing stories.
Its a different kinda design. Not a naked alien thing or a shirtless trucker but a... blue pirate? It really stands out. I kinda like him and his crew. Sadly it was a one and done
Bojack’s my favorite cause of his design. And his henchmen’s designs were on point. I like Zangya’s design the most. Cause she’s drop dead gorgeous, her pretty orange hair really gave it away. I think Bojack needs a reboot and totally rewritten. Same goes for Zangya, Bido, Bujin & Kogu
Gotta say, it is incredibly brilliant (and fortunate, if you somehow didn't plan this) that the cheese platter and ice cream jokes conclude with little context in a review of the movie where you'd need to have watched prior material to underrstand it... Same as the jokes. Well done, either way, love it. Edit: And look, another Mr. Plinkett quip. Love it. You're really just doing all your callbacks, aren't you? Overall excellent review, and I have to agree that this is one of my very favourite DB films. I only wish it was all the tournament!
This reminds me of how much I like this movie. Also congrats on the third Final Fantasy reference in a movie. From what we voted on it seems you will cover the ova.
25 minutes for a complex and interesting tournament vs. 34 episodes for a tournament where everyone gets a straight line to get bodied by Goku and Pals. Seems fair.
Isn’t this the last appearance of the saiyan-cell design of Chichi before her older Buu design (and movie 12 suggests she got that around Goten; either it was a difficult delivery or deep grief over goku or both)?
No, this movie came out right before episode 194, which was the last time we saw her like that, when Gohan told Chi Chi that Goku was dead and not coming back.
12:22- 12:48 Real talk, dogg, when I first saw this film, I wasn't paying too much attention and thought that Bojack and Co. were the Intergalactic Fighters, as opposed to hijackers. And only after seeing this video am I disappointed to be wrong, thanks dogg.
I always liked how this one felt like it gave the whole gang something to do, even if they could have been more fleshed out and less tropey. It is definitely one of the more fun and rewatchable DB movies for sure
Bojack could've been a former combatant in a past _Tenkaichi Dai Budo-Tai-Kai_ and could be taking revenge on the current contestants for losing. He could've brought his gang along with him and _that_ could've been the reason for their involvement. I really did love that tournament. Bojack is just big buff pirate.
Space pirates sounds cool since there would be a power vacuum in the galaxy left by Frieza so no order. Though of course the series just has to continue to raise stakes by adding God's and now multiple universes. Wonder what will be next lol...
It’s weird how currently the Dragon Ball Super manga is doing exactly just that. A new gang called the Heeters that even somewhat look like Bojack and his crew managed to fill the void that Freiza left. Too bad they share many of the same problems. None of them are particularly interesting (especially the one Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah are fighting right now) except for their leader being one of the smartest characters in the series. And even the most notable thing about the girl in their group is that she’s pretty hot like Zendaya
Excellent points on reworking the story! I had always disliked that sudden story shift midway through the movie. Also, a Redlettermedia reference?!! Nice.
14:24 Or what about the Malfoy family from Harry Potter? Their surname is literally French for "bad faith." The patriarch is named Lucius ... as in Lucifer ... or Satan. The matriarch is named after a greek mythology character famous for falling in love with his own reflection, and the son is named after a king whose primary legacy is dolling out extreme punishments for the pettiest of crimes. So the Malfoys' first names are literally "Evil," "Evil" and "Full of Oneself," respectively!
Let's be clear here, none of the movie villains felt necessary until Beerus showed up because they're always clones of the villains that came directly before them in terms of story beats, such as Turles as Vegeta, Cooler as Frieza, Android 13 as the Androids, Bojack as Cell, and Janemba as Buu.
None...besides Garlic Jr., Wheelo, Broly, and Hirudegarn? Being retreads doesn't make them unnecessary, all that matters is that they actually have a reason to be there. His point is the Bojack, out of all the movies, have the least reason to exist in this movie's set up.
The part where Goku appears before Gohan while he's at the mercy of Bojack and co and gives him the "Man up dammit and get your act together, son" speech pretty much feels almost beat for beat like the final struggle against Perfect Cell, only here he appears in the flesh rather than just a shadowy representation from the Next World but it's more or less a rehash of that bit. It's yet another one of those things which really reminds you that this is taking a lot of cues from the Cell arc which it's seemingly following in the timeline (One of the few of the Z films which really works in that aspect) and cramming it all into a single film
I find it interesting how this is the last movie that piccolo appears in when it comes to the original 13 dbz movies. Edit: outside of Gohan's imagination in movie 10.
Which coincides with Gohan becoming a teenager. I guess since Gohan's a big boy now, they felt that he didn't need Piccolo to come and save him anymore (a notion that modern Dragon Ball seems to disagree with.)
To add insult to injury, Tien and Yamcha just vanish after they’re knocked out. Literally; they’re nowhere to be seen in the hospital at the very end. Yet for some reason, Chiaotzu IS there. Someone cared enough about him to put Chiaotzu in the last scene. How about that…
*Bojack:* _a F t E r T e N t H o U s A n D_ _y E a R s I ' m F r E e ! ! !_ This could have been a better Cell games which wasn't even a real tournament. I still like the idea of Bojack crashing the party tho, or being the Galaxy Warriors like you said.
Putting Gohan in his father's gi was such a strange choice. At this point in the franchise he's probably almost as well known for wearing his father's gi as he is for Piccolo's but when this movie came out, putting him in orange felt like a really bold move. Shame nothing was really done with it, no attempt to connect his character with his fathers, despite the film drawing a direct visual comparison, hell there could've even been surface level tenka-ichi callbacks and that would've been enough. Also, no comment on insanely hot sleeveless Trunks!?
@@INFERNO95 That's not true at all. All Piccolo did was train Gohan (abusively, might I add). Their relationship grows into something meaningful but it's not a father/son relationship. Goku is shown to be very loving to his son whenever we see them on screen together, always ready to throw his life on the line for him, and clearly spends time with him (we just don't see a lot of it cause that isn't the point of the manga).
I remember how the deaths of Piccolo, Yamucha, Tenshinhan and Chaozu were ignored by the movies at the time. Do you suppose the reason that Goku's death in the main story was acknowledged by these movies is because it was treated as a permanent factor while the former character deaths were seen as temporary?
Thank you!!! Great review. It's surreal to imagine that after watching your reviews of Dragon Ball in it's entirety all these years, you've finally arrived at what for me is the final "gem" of the franchise in my wheelhouse. I think I told you a couple of years back that after movie 9, I didn't bother watching the others. For whatever reason I'm hesitant to pull the trigger. Maybe it's because movie 9 was the last time the OG fighters like Kuririn, Piccolo, Tenshinhan, and Yamucha were at least all together even if it was only to get their asses kicked. Maybe it's because everything after the Cell Saga just takes a huge nose dive to barely viewable in my opinion. Just felt like the party was over for the franchise after this point. Aye, but like you told me at the time I will get around to watching the others. At the very least I want to be up to speed when you review them. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy the film. I agree that Bojack and his goons are just poorly inserted generic thugs that have zero dimension to them even for the allotted time of the movie. Despite this huge problem, there are just a lot of things about the movie for me that make it a fun watch. The tournament setting with a twist, the animation, the background choices, the music...it keeps me invested time and time again.
I just imagine the people at Funimation looking at the translated movie titles and going “Wow, these are bland! We need something more descriptive so fans can actually tell them apart!”
I would've definitely enjoyed getting to know more about these characters. It seemed only Bojack was trapped, so were these his "followers?" Are they new/fresh followers or the same ones he had prior? I think this would've been pretty cool given it was Gohan being helped out by the others too, another SSJ2 attack from rage-hell epic Gohan, and Chi-Chi ACTUALLY APPROVING! Like the anime tossed that towards goten and left gohan to rot after this. Yeah, it has echoes of the end of the cell saga, but it was still very enjoyable in it's own right. In any case it's the last time we truly get to see Gohan being great and it not just being hype for nothing (mystic whose done episodes later and then does nothing ever) and I thank the film makers for that-it's ALMOST LIKE they understood the characters better than the actual creator and now the "extra creator" for super. HMMMM...
Good review and neat insights. Honestly I love the Galaxy Soldiers aesthetic and the fact they can match Super Sayians but do agree there is so little to them it hurts XD
Personally for me since mostly all dbz movies take place in there own realities i see this movie and why gohan has his dads gi is because he took on the role as a fighter and protector instead of academis and school
Bojack and Co., having seen the power of the Dragon Balls firsthand, decide to hide out on Earth, suppressing their power levels for about a year as they bide their time and wait for the chance to win the Balls for themselves and use them for their nefarious space pirate plans.
they needed a female fighter too so the girl in his group would be welcomed in the main story. but i liked the garlic jr saga so what do i know
How do we know this?
BlueMageDanny why would they wait a year to search them?
That's actually a good idea. The only issue would be why Future Trunks is there after he already left. This takes place after cell but many years before Buu. Maybe he came back to tell them of his success after he destroyed future 17, 18 and Cell. But then why is his hair long? When he destroyed them he had the stupid bowl cut. Maybe it takes a year to get fuel for the time machine?
this movie always stuck out to me due to the different color palette it has compared to the others,
its simple but quite effective to make it slightly more memorable than it would have been otherwise
Awesome seeing you here. How are you?
They seem to have taken note of this film being given its own visual flair, since the later films also wind up having distinctive color palettes, only instead of having blue highlights and such, they lean more on the purple side.
Broly had that too if I recall
I've always felt Zangya has one of the best character designs in the series. I love how her hair flows into the air when she powers up.
...Too bad her looks are really the only noteworthy thing about her.
Yea very nice boobs
It's at least something to remember. She (like most of Bojack's gang) don't really get much time to do anything.
Fun fact. Zangya does not get hit once by anyone during all the fighting, until Bojack kills her.
Looking back, it kinda looks like Android 21. Huh.

No
This movie has a lot of pro wrestling inspirations, as not only is the guy Gohan beats to qualify to the finals a stand-in for Stan Hansen, but three of the Galaxy warriors are "inspired" by Mil Mascaras, the Road Warriors and Abdullah the Butcher. And that's aside from the battle royal aspect of the first phase of the tournament.
Going from martial arts to pro wrestling would have been a good transition for the series and fit the goofy mood of the series.
@@harveydarvey4585 what do you would have? It is sadly pretty much what happened. A focus from technique/finesse to strength and power.

When I first started watching Bojack Horseman I’d always think of this movie lol before that I always thought the name Bojack was just some typical Toriyama esque pun
This was presnap is why
Dang, I can't believe Toei created a much more intriguing battle royale concept in this movie than they did years later in an actual supposedly fleshed out Dragon Ball series
Its because Lord Zeno is just a kid
Let's just hope Dragon Ball keeps on making them bank without them doing anything more than the bare minimum, else we'll recieve another poorly planned out Dragon Ball series.
@@James_Mansbridge You mean a full battle royale?
Some of the best outfit designs for the Z gang and it was for a throwaway movie lol. Probably my favorite iteration of Trunks' outfits in the entire series too. Such a shame.
I like his Piccolo Gi better anyways
I like his early buu saga gi. I prefer Gohan having a unique look.
>Maybe Bojack could be more theatrical, like a circus ringleader
So basically, assuming he still had the same design, make him a merger of the two villains from One Piece Stampede.

Because they rather let tgeir fans down and end the series that gave then their fame in the first place, than risking making a series that would get demonitized.

Your idea of Bojack's gang already being the Galaxy Warriors is great, i wonder why the writers didin't think about that.

@@succubastard1019 yeah, he could have wanted to wish to repair his future

The tournament is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I just can't stop appreciating how awesome the designs look and the concept it's self is one of it's unique aspects. (It does the Battle Royal a lot more creatively than the TOP did in Super) and given how bland Bojack turned to be I honestly wish they stuck to this through out the film.
It looks more like a regular tournament with a battle royale portion in the beginning
Its nothing like the TOP
@@leonardofarias8843 Agree to Disagree.
@@mechajay3358 Its a fact though
I like how one of the fighters was "Sky Dragon" a character that we haven't seen since an early Dragonball filler episode...
Trunks Super Saiyan hair was already like that during the fight with the Cell Jrs.
What a missed opportunity to include a little Videl in this movie. Since she's already been introduced in the manga.
Piccolo and Krillin's fight in this movie makes me need to cleanse my soul by watching their fight from the 23rd Budoukai
I wonder if we will get a video on the Plans to Eradicate the Saiyans OVA

You sound rejuvenated and excited! Glad you had more fun with this movie

You mean DB channel, he doesn't just do Dragon Ball Z. He does the Original Dragon Ball as well.
@@gavinlucas9761 No, he means "DBZ" because its common vernacular to refer to the whole series (including Super & GT) as "Z" because its just a casual reference.

I just realized that after the 23rd budokai, the most interesting parts of dragon ball are whenever Goku is dead or unavailable.
Sooooooo Goku is ruining the franchise?

That Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing reference is probably a the best comparison I have ever seen
I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie - it's one of my favourites too. Great video all round :)

Or what about the Malfoy family from Harry Potter? Their surname is literally French for "bad faith." The patriarch is named Lucius ... as in Lucifer ... or Satan. The matriarch is named after a greek mythology character famous for falling in love with his own reflection, and the son is named after a king whose primary legacy is dolling out extreme punishments for the pettiest of crimes.
So the Malfoys' first names are literally "Evil," "Evil" and "Full of Oneself," respectively!
Bad faith is actually more about the fact that they have bad trust in Voldemort which ends up fucking them over
Let's be clear here, none of the movie villains felt necessary until Beerus showed up because they're always clones of the villains that came directly before them in terms of story beats, such as Turles as Vegeta, Cooler as Frieza, Android 13 as the Androids, Bojack as Cell, and Janemba as Buu.
None...besides Garlic Jr., Wheelo, Broly, and Hirudegarn?
Being retreads doesn't make them unnecessary, all that matters is that they actually have a reason to be there. His point is the Bojack, out of all the movies, have the least reason to exist in this movie's set up.
Im so pumped for this video!
"I wax."
"Oh I'll survive. Then its bacon time."
Wow, never noticed how one of Mister Satan's disciples looked very similar to Ebifurya from World's Strongest.

I've always loved the battlegrounds in this movie and I am BAFFLED that they don't show up in any of the video games. They're so fun!

If anything it was disrespectful towards gigantic relationship whit piccolo cause let face it, piccolo was more a father to gohan then goku ever was.
Whether or not they have a frager son relationship is debatable since Gohan does compare him to his father when talking about people he respects.
Honestly I'm just amazed that he managed to get both tickets in the same episode

And then the guys who made the German dub just said: "Fuck it, we'll call it Super-Saiyajin Son-Gohan".
And then we have Spain's "The Silver Warriors"
In the latin american spanish dub it was called "The Galaxy Is in Danger"
@@hellkaiser64 "Silver"????

Guerreros de plata = Silver Warriors
Poor Yamcha.
Final fantasy? I see you are a man of culture too
Where have you been, friend? I do an entire series on Final Fantasy on my channel! Final Fantasy IX came out two weeks ago.
@@MistareFusion really? Im gonna check that out:)
I like that the manga, movie and anime each had a different tournament happening or about to happen at the same time.
Keep up the great work soon-to-be world champion!
Also clever idea for what else to do with the villains and gosh yes, that reinforcement scene turning out the way it did hurt my soul.
i know it isn't a priority of the series but i would have enjoyed a spotlight on the excellent dub name "X. S. Cash"
Personally for me since mostly all dbz movies take place in there own realities i see this movie and why gohan has his dads gi is because he took on the role as a fighter and protector instead of academis and school
