I should have watched this a year ago! Ha! Thanks for the detailed explanation. Now I will enjoy my OM-5 even more. Oh, and your English is much better than my Czech. Thanks, again!
Thank you for such an informative and straight forward walk-through video! REALLY useful.
I learned more important and useful info for getting the best out of my new OM-5 than I have seen in any video out there so far. Thank you!
Thank you for this clear and interesting explanation. I am very happy with my OM-5 and am getting to know my camera better and better thanks to your channel and thus have more fun shooting. Greetings from the Netherlands
I am new to the OM-5. I watched this video after using the OM-5 for a couple months. It is a wonderful, very helpful tutorial in explaining focus settings. Thanks!
Thank you for the outstanding overview of the complex focusing features of the OM-5.
This is the best instruction on focusing I've seen. I learned a lot. Thanks so much!
So helpful! I watched the video and had a photoshoot this morning (bellydancers) and it went so well. Thank you!!! I love my new OM Systems 5, fun camera.

Really helpful video. Thank you.
Very good job! 👏👏
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for watching this video. Let me answer some of your questions, which you had in the Live stream.
Q: Will this session include OM-1 focusing?
A: No, this is based on the OM-5 and OM-D camera menu design. We can prepare a separate OM-1 focusing stream in the future.
Q: What is the best setting for eye focusing?
A: You can set the face detection and set it up to detect either the left or right eye, so that you have control over precise focusing on a specific eye. You can also choose a single point AF area and point it at the eye.
Q: Is there any way to lock the focus point in place? My palm keeps hitting the arrow pad and moving the focus points.
A: Yes, you can disable the arrow pad (turn it OFF) in Button function setting. Then you should set up one of the Fn buttons to recall the AF Area Select feature, to be able to activate the focusing grid and move AF points.
Q: Is it OK to leave the camera on C-AF all the time, even when shooting still subjects?
A: Yes, you can do it. Many photographers use this setting. Many others, including myself, prefer S-AF when shooting stills.
Q: What kind of grip are you using on your OM-5?
A: It is the original ECG-5 grip accessory. explore.omsystem.com/us/en/ecg-5-external-grip
Q: Is there a way to change how much the magnify function magnifies with manual focusing?
A: Yes. Once you are in the magnifying mode and the image is enlarged, move the front or rare dial. In the left corner you will see the magnification going from 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x to 14x.
Q: How many of these OM-5 presented features are in E-M1 Mark III.
A: Basically all of them, as OM-5 has almost all the functions of E-M1 Mark III.
Excellent presentation
I’m new to OM-5 this I very useful Hank you
Glad to hear it!
On the OM-1 how to I use the camera to measure a distance so I can set it in the AF limiter?
Hi, first, thank you for this video. It's now clear that it's a very complex camera. I thought to make pictures straight out of the box but Indid run in to a lot of misfocussing. I am used to Canon just 1 button and select the AF modem and area. I came to the conclusion that the OM will not work for me.Just to complicated. I need to be able to point and shoot without having to go into a menu.I troed but even with portrets I just can't get the eyes sharp, very frustrating. Anyway thanks again it helped me to make clear this camera is not easy and will cost a lot of time to get to know.
Thanks for the excellent talk.
Q: When using focus peaking for manual focussing assistance, is the depth of field represented in the LCD screen while varying the aperture? For instance, if I close the aperture (increasing the depth of field) then there is an increases in the depth of the area with peaking (red) dots...?
Thanks again!
How do I get that button/home AF on the OM-1? I used to use it a lot with the older cameras, but I can’t make it work on the OM-1.
You could try tapping the joystick in
I am new to the OM system - please can you tell me if SAF can be taken off the shutter button when BBF is set on the AEL/AFL
No offense, but modern digital cameras, especially OM System, got me thinking of my Leica M-3 back in 1976.
I can’t get the focus areas to stick in Auto mode. PASM works fine. Is that correct?
Which Zuiko lens is pictured in the thumbnail?
It's the 12-45mm lens :)
41:08 turned out your nose also moves your focus targeting point if you hold the camera with both hands.
Is there a way to quickly centre the focus point. By 1 press of a button. Is it possible.
Just hold down the OK-button
30:00 "greenish yellow" . top left battery indicator is definetly green
It’s still not clear to me when I should use C-AF or rather C-AF+TR.
Great, but no help on how to back button focus, which is the one setting I cannot work out how to set up.
Back button focus is already set up … at least in mode 3 and 4. Go to AEL/AFL PART OF A1 menu … click to right until it shows what the mode settings are. I also disabled Half Way AF so that it wouldn’t be confusing.
et en francais ???????? marre des sous titres pas bien traduits
Presentation was a total loss for me - no closed captions
audio was perfectly clear , presumably speech recognition ( 3rd party ) can assist on playback?
If you really value closed captions it could be worth getting a Google pixel phone. The recent models have built in AI that can do real time captions for any video/audio.
Closed captioning worked for me. I really enjoyed the session.
I watched the replay, clicked on the CC button (bottom R menu), and it worked perfectly. You can adjust the color & background, too.
Well, that was a total bust.
hopefully you get a refund
