Great info. I’m in Phoenix also. My lemon balm, oregano, Greek thyme, stevia, sage and parsley are all growing huge! I do have a shade cloth over them.
Your a sweetheart, I Love my herbs too, so good for you , the smells and taste of all the different herbs just makes me feel good , I dry so many herbs for the winter, I make mint teas, love them, keep up the good work , your proof you can grow so much in small area in very hot weather! God Bless
Thank you, I really want to show how much we grow in the desert. It's one of the best climates because we can grow food all year long but I don't think most people know its possible. I love herbs too they are my favorite.
I am happy with my herbs Started increasing them this season I was saying to a friend in order to use them like those chef on tv Have to have alot So I started more seeds and propagate some Except parsley 300 plants sprouted even in sidewalk cracks LoL
On top of herbs growing, we all use to live on what we all now call weed's and some people spraying horrible things on them to get rid of them. We all need to relearn them all over again. It has definitely gotten hot this month. LOL!! Some of the herbs that are having trouble in growing outside, then maybe inside the house during the most trying time for them might be best. That kitchen herbal garden. 😉😁
I was laughing with my friend the other day talking about the old round up commercials (the I hate dandelion one) and now people are paying like $5.99 lb for dandelion leaves. We totally all have to relearn it will make such a difference in everyone's health. I try to grow some in the house but I have a dark house. We don't have any windows really facing the sun so we can keep it cool in the house but I have a huge dried herb stash. Like a full cabinet lol I might have a herb problem 😆🤣
@@TeamBensonHomestead But it is a good herb problem. I grew up running into the Mosquito fog on the streets in Mississippi. Yes, it is Very bad for you, along with the D D T's that were sprayed on the grass to keep the grass lush and the weeds at bay. Nowadays I refuse to even use roundup type product's. Besides what all it can do to our health, it isn't good for the earth. I think the older I get, the more hippie I become. LOL!
I am also growing most of the herbs you are growing. I'm not growing stevia. I am in zone 9b low AZ desert. So far I haven't put any thing under shade cloth. They mostly get morning and early afternoon sun. I love all my lizards also. They are everywhere doing their bug eating jobs.
Thanks for all of your wonderful garden shares Tiffany. I’m struggling to keep two stevia plants alive; one is gone and the other is struggling. I’ve been trying desperately to save it but to no avail. I guess I’ll try again in the fall. Also, the thyme. I thought if I grew them in a shady area they’d be fine. I guess I’ll be trying the different varieties to see which one(s) thrives in my garden. Thanks again for sharing and keep cool in that heat. Happy gardening 🌿🌸🦋🦎
Anytime, you have to also think of the soil them itself too. Planting them in pots will allow you to bring them inside or with something that has more ground cover to keep the soil cooler. But sometimes its best just to use it in its season and let it rest. They will come back as long as you keep the roots watered.
@@TeamBensonHomestead good to know. I have one stem left and it’s on life support. I have it shaded but then we had some serious wind and rain and hardly any sun today. I’ll check on it tomorrow.
I am in a condo but I have a raised garden at my daughters house which is only about five minutes away. This morning I went onto my patio and realized it was time to move my herbs into my garden because the sun is just getting too darn hot. Even my basil wasn’t like in the heat on the patio. So I just finished transplanting and everybody looks much happier and hopefully they can spread their little roots out and keep growing and keeping healthy. I’m in Tucson foothills.
So glad to find your channel! I live in the Dallas area, not so hot as you, but still in the 100's many days in summer. Love your ideas and thanks for sharing!
Hi Tiffany! FRAAAAAANK!!! 🦎💚❣️Your little raised bed for your herbs is so cool! Did y’all make it or buy it? Also the boxes that your growing greek thyme and lemon balm in, are they lined with plastic or anything?
Hey!! So I got the herb bed from a family that was making them years ago. We lined it with a window screen we had so the worms wouldn't fall out. The little box I got from home depot
Oh me and Rosemary struggled in the beginning. It really needs a lot of space for its roots. A lot of businesses in AZ grow them as full bushes for desert landscape.
Our 105 equals a Central California 95. The small percentage difference in humidity makes the difference. Being raised in CA, CA is still very hot. We are now in Southern AZ for 15 years and our plants do best under a shade cloth or speckled shade provided by a Mesquite, Ironwood, Palo Verde, African Sumac, etc. Having a misting system also works well. Some of my best plants are from the mint family, stevia, peppers, bearded iris, canna lily & our Rosemary always thrives. We've just learned that full sun never means full sun

Thank you I'm walking around with a bottle of mint water. But I love the heat lol.
So glad to find you
Hoping to start a medicinal herb/flower/tea garden this year
It's amazing once you get it going. You can order herbs on Amazon or the green goddess house of herbs to get yourself started
I have happy rosemary and basil also in NLV, NV. Getting my real shade cover up this weekend.

We still have really nice nights and mornings. Ohhhh I don't want to think about the 100 degree nights 😫
Try 5 gallon buckets they work great
Thank you trying to learn more about herbs.
Anytime I'm happy to help 😊
Thank you for the tour of your garden. The garden is beautiful, and if I may, so are you. Keep up the great work and content!
Thank you so much!
Totally garden unrelated, but I think you are so beautiful and I love to watch your videos. I'm in the UK so have opposite challenges!!
Thank you so much that is nice of you ❤
Yes, fresh herbs are best for the kitchen, but medicinal herbs are best dried, then made into tea or even better tinctured.
I love teas and tinctures they are the best!
great info
Glad it was helpful!

I must need to put my lemon balm under a cover. It's become a gnat hotel.
Ohhhh nooo so you want to water less to get rid of gnats. Are you getting a lot of rain?

My Thyme is really odd during the summer too :(
Mine is growing like a weed now. I switched things up and planted it during the fall and let it grow over the winter

How often n how much water. Every time I transplant my herbs to a pot, they die 🥺
I water once a day and depending on the plant I might at a watering bulb. The mulch helps the most I use wood chips
