Your videos brought back fond memories of Cambodia. Glad to see you getting off the beaten path and going to Laos. It's on my list of places to visit.
Like yourself I prefer 2nd and 3rd tier cities. I'm currently slow traveling in Japan for 3 months to places like Nagoya, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, etc. Quite affordable and many things to see for free or very low admission fee.
Then Thailand for February and Kenya after that for my first time in Africa
Yes I think they tend to be more chill
Even if I go to large cities I try to take trains outside the center areas

Are you finding affordable lodging ?
I hope these will be a helpful tips. Money changing booths in the airport usually do not give a very good exchange rate. I advise my friends to look around for an ATM first. Some ATMs also make an initial exchange offer that is not very good. So decline it. They will then offer you a better rate. If not, it will just terminate the transaction and you can do it one more time.

I use a travel card that does not charge me overseas fees also
I have found that at certain small business, that they will exchange money at a full exchange rate, especially if you are going to spend money there.
We found the local Honda Scooter dealer and a Cell Phone company would exchange American dollars. Back in Feb 2023 it was 20,000 kip per dollar.

Later can you compare and contrast Cambodia with Laos? What is your goal with your travel? To find an eventual place to retire? Or just slow travel? How do you find your accommodations? Thank you 🙏🏼

More river and artistic sites
Also there are multiple hikes and wildlife centers here
It looks like you've been traveling around for a couple months now... Pardon me, many months now... Can you share what you've spent roughly a month over the last many months that you've traveled?
Yes of course
The hotels in Cambodia were each $16 a day with all utilities and free WiFi
Food was about 3 dollars a meal but I had a few that were like 6
Tuk tuks are 3 to go anywhere !
